Divine Level Witch Doctor

The diagnostic room Liu Lili was in was very strange. Not only were the door and windows shut tight, but the curtains were drawn completely, making the room incredibly dim. With the lights off, it was hard for anyone entering to adjust to the gloom, and for a moment, it felt like they couldn’t see anything at all.

Zhao Yuan was fine, but to Xiao Xianlin, Ma Guotao, and the others, it was truly pitch-black.

Xiao Xianlin asked, ”Why don’t you turn on the lights?”

Chen Kaihua came forward and said with a wry smile, ”You don’t understand. Lili’s condition is very strange right now. The moment she sees light, whether it’s sunlight or lamplight, she gets extremely agitated. She’ll even attack people and destroy things. Look, these injuries on my body are from her.”

As he spoke, he rolled up his sleeve to show everyone the wounds on his arm.

However, besides Zhao Yuan, who could see the black and blue bruises on his arm, no one else could make out a thing—they still hadn’t adjusted to the dimness of the diagnostic room.

Xiao Xianlin said with a wry smile, ”You should probably turn on the lights anyway. If it’s pitch-black with the lights off, how are we supposed to diagnose Liu Lili?”

Chen Kaihua hesitated for a moment, then replied, ”Well... alright, I’ll go turn them on.”

Before he could reach the switch by the door, Zhao Yuan stopped him. ”Mr. Chen, there’s no need. This is fine. In fact, a dim environment like this is better for diagnosing the patient.”

As he spoke, he looked toward the northwest corner of the room.

Liu Lili was curled up in that corner, clutching a doll.

By now, Xiao Xianlin, Ma Guotao, and the others had begun to adjust to the dim light and could faintly make out Liu Lili’s form.

This scene was also broadcast to the public via the camera.

A dark diagnostic room, a bizarre patient... The sight sent the people watching the livestream into a flurry of discussion.

”What’s she doing in that corner?”

”Not only is Liu Lili’s illness getting weirder, but she’s getting creepier too.”

”My god, is that even a person? It’s not a Ghost, is it?”

”I agree, she looks more like a Ghost than a person... Could she be possessed? I think finding a Mage to perform a ritual would be more reliable than finding a doctor.”

If the people merely watching the livestream found it eerie, Xiao Xianlin and Ma Guotao, who were there in person, were already feeling their blood run cold.

They saw Liu Lili, curled up in the corner, gently patting the doll in her arms as her mouth opened and closed, as if she were murmuring something.

Everyone in the room fell silent in unison, straining their ears to hear what Liu Lili was saying.

Soon, they heard her voice.

She was singing a nursery rhyme in a cheerful tone: ”Ding-dong, ding-dong. The deliveryman is here with a package. Is it your package? No, no. Is it his package? No, no. Whose package is it then? Oh, it’s Xiaochengcheng’s package, with a head, a heart, and hands inside...”

Xiao Xianlin and Ma Guotao glanced at each other, and both saw a trace of horror in the other’s eyes.

Ma Guotao drew in a sharp breath. ”What kind of nursery rhyme is that? It’s terrifying!”

His words perfectly matched what everyone watching the livestream was thinking.

Chen Kaihua sighed and explained, ”Ever since Lili fell ill, she’s been singing nursery rhymes like that. At first, we were scared out of our wits, but we’re used to it now.”

’What does Liu Lili mean by singing this rhyme?’ Zhao Yuan thought to himself. ’Wait... I get it. She feels guilty about her son’s accidental death and wants to give her body to him. The ’deliveryman’ in the lyrics refers to herself. And the package containing a head, heart, hands, and feet... that’s her own body! No wonder her son’s Ghost Soul is inside her. So that’s what’s going on!’

Zhao Yuan didn’t rush toward Liu Lili. Instead, he turned to Chen Kaihua and asked, ”Mr. Chen, what was the name of your son who passed away? Also, how did he die? Did it have something to do with Liu Lili?”

Recalling the cause of his son’s death was painful for Chen Kaihua, but for the sake of his wife’s treatment, he began to tell the story.

”My son’s name was Chen Pengshang, and we called him Chengcheng. On the day of the accident, my wife took him to the park. On the way, she ran into a friend, and they chatted for a bit. But when she turned around, Chengcheng was gone. Terrified, she searched all over the park for him. Finally, she saw that Chengcheng had, at some point, fallen into the park’s lake.”

”Lili screamed for help, and a kind person jumped into the lake and pulled Chengcheng to shore, but it was too late. Chengcheng wasn’t breathing anymore. Lili has been overwhelmed with guilt and has blamed herself ever since. She said that if she hadn’t been so careless, her son wouldn’t have died, and that she owed him a life. At first, she was just depressed and a little unstable. But gradually, her condition worsened until she became... like this.”

”I see, I understand everything now.” Zhao Yuan nodded. He finally understood why Liu Lili would let Xiaochengcheng’s Ghost Soul occupy her body, and the reason she wanted to give it to him.

To cure Liu Lili, brute force wouldn’t work. He had to appeal to their emotions and reason with them, persuading both Liu Lili and Xiaochengcheng separately.

But that would not be easy.

However, no matter how difficult, Zhao Yuan had to try.

Because this wasn’t about saving one person, but one person and one Ghost!

Zhao Yuan thought for a moment, then said, ”All of you, please step outside. It’s best if it’s just me and Liu Lili in this room.”

”By yourself? Are you sure?” Xiao Xianlin and Ma Guotao were hesitant.

Zhao Yuan smiled. ”You can’t help me by staying here. Besides, you saw it yourself—Liu Lili is afraid of crowds. Your presence will only interfere with my treatment.”

”Alright.” After some consideration, Xiao Xianlin and Ma Guotao agreed to his request.

Seeing that they were staying out, the Japanese doctors responsible for monitoring Zhao Yuan also agreed to stay out. However, Chen Kaihua said, ”I want to stay in the room. If I’m here, Lili’s condition might be more stable.”

He said that, but in reality, he was staying because he didn’t trust Zhao Yuan alone with her.

Even though his wife had become this creature that was neither human nor ghost, his love and concern for her had not diminished.

Zhao Yuan considered it for a moment, then nodded. ”Fine, you can stay.” He then turned to the monitoring Japanese doctors and said, ”It’s alright if he stays, isn’t it? You don’t suspect he’ll be helping me, do you?”

Of course, the Japanese doctors didn’t suspect Chen Kaihua. If he could have helped Zhao Yuan, he would have likely cured Liu Lili long ago.

After everyone had left the room, Zhao Yuan closed the door. The reporter carrying the camera wanted to stay, but Zhao Yuan unceremoniously shooed him away.

With the door closed, the room grew a few shades darker.

Zhao Yuan turned to Chen Kaihua with a serious expression. ”In a moment, no matter what you see or hear, stay calm. Do not, under any circumstances, shout or make a scene. Understand?”
