Divine Level Witch Doctor

On the stage, Zhao Yuan lectured methodically.

However, the people in the audience weren’t really listening to what he was saying. Instead, they were all murmuring amongst themselves.

”Some wet-behind-the-ears kid shamelessly claims he’s going to lecture on the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor*. What an absolute joke!”

”Exactly. I’ll admit he has some skill in the Basic Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Medical Ancient Texts, but lecturing on a masterwork like the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor*? He’s still far too inexperienced for that!”

”Sigh. When will these young people ever learn to be more grounded?”

Without a doubt, aside from the group from West Hua Medical University and Kawashima Haruhiro, everyone else, even now, remained unimpressed. They didn’t believe Zhao Yuan could present anything of substance.

Some even stood up to leave. ”What’s the point of staying here? To listen to this kid spout nonsense on stage? That’s it, let’s not waste our time. Let’s go!”

But they only took a few steps before stopping. They had suddenly realized that the content of Zhao Yuan’s lecture was actually rather interesting—not nearly as bad as they had imagined.

Ever since the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor* had resurfaced, everyone present had read and studied it.

So they were familiar with the topics Zhao Yuan was discussing. They immediately connected his points to the corresponding passages in the book and couldn’t help but compare the two. To their surprise, they found that what Zhao Yuan was saying made a great deal of sense.

The murmuring died down as people began to listen intently to Zhao Yuan’s lecture. As for those who had been about to leave, they were now in a very hesitant and awkward position.

To leave now would be a shame. After all, the quality of Zhao Yuan’s lecture was impressive; it intrigued them and made them want to keep listening. Missing it would surely be a regret.

But staying would be a little embarrassing.

These people froze on the spot, caught in a dilemma.

Seeing this, their colleagues and friends felt both relieved and amused.

Relieved, of course, that they hadn’t stood up yet and so weren’t in the same embarrassing predicament; amused because the sight of their indecisive colleagues was quite comical.

These people were kind-hearted, however, and didn’t mock them. Instead, one said, ”Don’t be in such a hurry to leave. I think Zhao Yuan is making some good points. Why not sit down and hear how he’s going to interpret the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor*?”

For those caught in a bind, these words were the perfect excuse. They immediately sat back down in their seats, saying, ”Alright, we’ll stay and hear him out!”

Naturally, the group from West Hua Medical University saw all of this unfold.

They simultaneously puffed out their chests, smug smiles gracing their lips, as they thought to themselves: ’You’re all stunned, aren’t you? Let’s see if you can still spew that nonsense about Zhao Yuan being arrogant after this is over!’

Zhao Yuan saw all the reactions from the audience, but it didn’t affect his presentation in the slightest.

As his lecture delved deeper, the medical experts in the audience found his points increasingly reasonable and brilliant.

A medical expert slapped his thigh hard and said excitedly, ”Wow, that point Zhao Yuan just made—that’s a problem that’s been stumping me in my own research on the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor*! I’ve been wrestling with it for a while now, even got together with several renowned physicians to study it, but we couldn’t solve it. I can’t believe Zhao Yuan just explained it so clearly. I’ve been enlightened, truly enlightened!”

”Hey, can you not be so agitated?” the person next to him protested with an annoyed glare.

”My apologies, my apologies. A problem that’s troubled me for days was just solved, so I got excited. I’m sure you’d be the same if it happened to you.”

”I’d be excited if my problem were solved, sure, but I wouldn’t slap someone else’s thigh! And so hard, too! Ouch, you nearly killed me!”

”Huh? I’m so sorry, so sorry! I was wondering why I didn’t feel any pain when I slapped my thigh. I thought I was just too excited to notice, but it turns out I slapped the wrong leg...”

Similar incidents were popping up all over the conference hall. Of course, most people, in their excitement, managed to slap their own thighs.

If people’s attitudes toward Zhao Yuan were suspicion, disdain, and jealousy when he first took the stage, then after his lecture began, those attitudes changed at lightning speed.

Before, they thought Zhao Yuan was making some good points. Now, they felt his lecture was far more than just ”making good points”—it was absolutely brilliant, with every word a pearl of wisdom!

They were completely captivated by Zhao Yuan’s lecture. It felt as if problems that had plagued them for ages were being solved by him in the blink of an eye. Their attitude toward him shifted from fondness and respect to... admiration!

People might not believe it if you told them, but this group of medical experts, all much older than Zhao Yuan, had actually developed a sense of admiration for him.

But that was the reality!

At least in the field of research on the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor*, they truly admired Zhao Yuan!

This was, without a doubt, a tremendous affirmation of Zhao Yuan’s ability!

The contingent from West Hua Medical University was also listening, completely entranced.

As Ma Guotao listened, captivated by Zhao Yuan’s lecture, he was also deep in thought: ’I never expected Zhao Yuan’s understanding of the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor* to be so much more profound than we had estimated. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the content of his lecture today represents the pinnacle of current research on the text! In fact, what he’s explaining is already so mature, it could be published directly in a textbook.’

His eyes lit up as a brand new idea suddenly struck him. ’What if we had Zhao Yuan teach a specialized course on the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor* starting next semester? Not only would it greatly enhance West Hua Medical University’s competitiveness, but it would also place us at the forefront of research and teaching on the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor* worldwide!’

The more Ma Guotao thought about it, the more excited he became. If they could really offer such a course, it would be a truly unique specialty! West Hua Medical University would become a hallowed ground for studying the *Outer Canon of the Yellow Emperor* in the eyes of experts and scholars across the country! This would be a massive boost to the university’s prestige!

’I have to discuss this with Zhao Yuan as soon as he’s done. I’ll do my best to convince him!’

After letting his mind race with possibilities, Ma Guotao calmed himself and went back to listening to Zhao Yuan’s lecture.

A little over half an hour passed quickly, and Zhao Yuan’s lecture drew to a close.

After delivering his final remarks, Zhao Yuan gave a slight bow, said, ”Thank you,” and turned to leave the stage.

The audience hadn’t had their fill yet. They were still immersed in the brilliant lecture, and when they saw Zhao Yuan about to leave, they grew anxious. One after another, they rose to their feet and shouted, ”Don’t go! Encore!”
