Divine Level Witch Doctor

Genji Doju was thinking the same thing.

The moment the thought struck him, he gave an order to his disciples. ”Book me a flight to Huashang, now! I’m going to rush there and back up Kawashima in person! And call Kawashima immediately. Tell him not to be hasty with the next match. He must wait until I arrive before competing!”

Hearing this, Kobayashi Haruo and his fellow disciples were instantly in an uproar. They all wore expressions of disbelief as they cried out in shock:

”What? Teacher, you’re going to Huashang?”

”You’re going yourself, Teacher? Isn’t that giving that Zhao Yuan kid too much credit?”

”How could we trouble you to go personally? Just let us go to Huashang and support our senior brother!”

Genji Doju’s expression was exceptionally stern. ”Say no more. My mind is made up! This competition has escalated to a battle for our very legacy. We absolutely cannot afford to lose; we must win! If we lose, our Genji School will not only become traitors to Traditional Chinese Medicine, but also the shame of Japan! But if we win, our Genji School will be the greatest benefactors to Traditional Chinese Medicine and the great heroes of Japan! When that time comes, our status will surely leap to the very pinnacle of Japan’s medical community!”

A collective gasp echoed through the room as Kobayashi Haruo and his fellow disciples sucked in sharp breaths.

’The greatest benefactors to Traditional Chinese Medicine! The great heroes of Japan! The pinnacle of the medical community!’

These titles made their breathing quicken and their eyes turn greedy.

What did one strive for in life, if not fame and fortune? If they won this competition, they would have both in spades!

Once they understood the importance of the competition, Genji Doju’s disciples stopped trying to dissuade him. On the contrary, they all felt that it was imperative for Genji Doju to go to Huashang! This was a competition they had to win; they couldn’t afford to lose! With Genji Doju there to take charge and help, they wouldn’t have to fear Zhao Yuan, no matter how skilled or monstrously talented he was!

”Teacher, I’ll book your flight to Huashang right away!”

One disciple immediately pulled out his phone and called his assistant, telling him to book flights for Genji Doju and himself. He didn’t forget to ask his fellow disciples, ”I’m planning to go to Huashang with Teacher. Who else is coming?”

”I’ll go!”

”Me too! Book a ticket for me!”

”How could I miss out on an event this big?”

Kobayashi Haruo’s fellow disciples eagerly raised their hands to sign up. Only he remained in the corner, shrinking back with a bitter and embarrassed expression, not daring to make a sound.

”Mr. Kobayashi, aren’t you coming with us?” the disciple in charge of booking the flights asked, turning his head.

Kobayashi Haruo explained, ”I’d like to go with everyone, but I’m under a Curse, so I can’t...”

His fellow disciples were unaware of the Curse, but Genji Doju had heard about it in a report from Kawashima Haruhiro. He spoke up to get Kobayashi Haruo out of his predicament. ”Kobayashi’s condition does indeed make him unsuited to travel with us to Huashang. Let him stay here in Japan and hold down the fort for us!”

At that moment, the call to Kawashima Haruhiro went through.

The disciple on the phone quickly relayed Genji Doju’s message to him.

After listening, Kawashima Haruhiro was thrilled. He never thought he’d inadvertently become a participant in a battle for their legacy. If he could win this battle between nations, his reputation in the Japanese Traditional Chinese Medicine Community, and even the entire Japanese medical community, would skyrocket. He might even go down in history!

Taking a deep breath, Kawashima Haruhiro replied, ”Please inform Teacher that I understand. I will schedule the next match with Zhao Yuan for the Postnatal day!”

Just as he hung up, he heard Zhao Yuan ask, ”Mr. Kawashima, I was wondering, what do you plan for the next round of our competition to be?”

The question gave Kawashima Haruhiro a headache.

He had already witnessed Zhao Yuan’s skill in diagnosis. They hadn’t competed in the inquiry portion yet, but since Zhao Yuan was so formidable in inspection, listening, smelling, and palpation, how could his inquiry skills be any worse?

As for Prescription Medicine and Acupuncture? Zhao Yuan had already showcased his talents in both when he dealt with the Jinling Zhao Family and Kobayashi Haruo! He had absolutely no confidence that he could beat Zhao Yuan in either of those areas.

’What in the world should the next competition be?’ Kawashima Haruhiro agonized.

Just then, Lingzi, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly leaned close to his ear and whispered, ”Compete with him in treating patients.”

”Treating patients?” Kawashima Haruhiro was taken aback. ’Aren’t all the things we’ve been competing on just techniques for treating patients?’ he thought.

Seeing his confusion, Lingzi explained, ”Each side finds a patient for the other to treat. The winner is the one who achieves the best therapeutic result in the shortest amount of time!”

”But this kid’s medical skills are superb. An ordinary patient would be no challenge for him at all,” Kawashima Haruhiro whispered. He felt completely uncertain about Lingzi’s suggestion.

Lingzi gave a soft chuckle and replied, ”Have you forgotten about the patient that even your teacher was helpless to treat? As far as I know, she happens to be a Huashang local.”

Kawashima Haruhiro’s eyes lit up. ”That’s right! My teacher declared that patient ’incurable’! If we can find her, she’ll definitely be enough to stump Zhao Yuan!”

Overjoyed, he reached out to hug Lingzi, but she dodged back with a quick step, chiding him, ”Stop it. So many people are watching, how embarrassing! You should just focus on the important matters at hand.”

Kawashima Haruhiro didn’t get angry, just chuckled and said, ”You’re right. Business first.”

Zhao Yuan, however, furrowed his brow slightly. He could tell that Lingzi’s seemingly ordinary step back had actually concealed a profound technique.

He wondered to himself, ’Just what is this woman’s background?’

At the same time, Kawashima Haruhiro announced, ”As doctors, all our skills are ultimately for treating the sick. Therefore, for our next round, we will compete in treating patients. The rules are as follows: you and I will each find a patient for the other to treat. The person who achieves the best therapeutic outcome in the shortest amount of time will be the winner of this match! Of course, the chosen patient’s illness cannot be an incurable disease by modern medical standards, such as AIDS, cancer, and so on. Other than that, any kind of difficult or complex case is fair game!”

Zhao Yuan had no objections and nodded in agreement. ”Alright, we’ll compete by treating patients.”

Kawashima Haruhiro immediately added, ”Choosing patients will require some time. So, let’s schedule the next match for two days from now. What do you think?”

Zhao Yuan agreed again. ”Fine by me. Two days from now it is!”

With the terms settled, Kawashima Haruhiro had no desire to stay any longer—nor did he have the face to. He immediately turned and left with his entourage. Meanwhile, Zhao Yuan also left the hospital, surrounded by a crowd of medical experts.

On the way back to the hotel, many of the medical experts began offering their help. ”Zhao Yuan, do you need us to find a patient for you? We know of some cases with very strange conditions that are sure to stump Kawashima Haruhiro.”

Zhao Yuan politely declined their kind offers. ”Thank you, everyone, but I already have an idea for a patient.”
