Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1641: Chapter 1641: First Love Enemy

”Bai Ruozhu, you’re supposed to be a modern woman, how did you learn to secretly invade others’ privacy like this?” Tang Feng reacted strongly, his tone was quite unfriendly, ”One Princess Fule is already troublesome enough.”

Bai Ruozhu immediately flared up, glaring at Tang Feng and said, ”Tang Feng, which eye of yours saw me peeping? When I came over, she was already at your door. I didn’t want to disturb, so I didn’t go up. How is that invading privacy? If it’s private, talk inside. What’s the point of standing on the street? If you’re standing here, don’t be afraid of people looking.”

Tang Feng’s eyes widened, ready to quarrel with Bai Ruozhu, completely different from his usual elegant scholar demeanor. Bai Ruozhu only just realized that he indeed had the temper of a modern dandy, but it had been restrained before.

However, Tang Feng took a few deep breaths, and suddenly deflated, saying with some headache, ”Alright, it’s my bad attitude, poor choice of words. As friends, let’s not damage our relationship. Let’s go inside and talk.”

Bai Ruozhu was still glaring like a fighting rooster, but since he surrendered without a fight, what else could she do?

She couldn’t help but sigh, following Tang Feng into the yard.

Once inside, Tang Feng personally brewed tea. His movements were smooth, with an air of elegance, and he didn’t speak during the process. Bai Ruozhu also refrained from asking questions or saying much, waiting to see who had more patience.

Soon, he poured Bai Ruozhu a cup of tea, with a very respectful attitude, showing a hint of apology. Bai Ruozhu snorted lightly, took the tea, blew on it, and took a shallow sip.

”Your tea doesn’t taste good, it’s not as good as my second brother’s. Even though your movements are fluid, your mind is scattered, and the tea lacks the steady and rich charm,” Bai Ruozhu said bluntly.

Tang Feng let out a heavy sigh, ”Maybe it’s just my natural affinity for attracting peach blossoms, so I’m a bit irritated.”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a big eye roll, ”We’re fellow townspeople; I don’t want to stand on ceremony with you. Don’t think I didn’t see the conflict in your eyes earlier. If you really didn’t care about Princess Fule at all, why bring up Bai Guanghe to her? Isn’t it because you’re not at ease? Since when did you, Tang Feng, become so soft-hearted?”

The three rhetorical questions made Tang Feng’s cheeks flush slightly. He took a sip of tea to cover his embarrassment.

”Let’s talk about it. At the last palace banquet, you showed a strange expression when you saw that fake princess, and now you’re different towards Princess Fule. Did you perhaps know her before?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Tang Feng looked a bit awkward, ”How could I have known her? It’s just that her face is exactly the same as my first love from my previous life. At first, I thought she had also come through, but after some interaction, I realized it was just a coincidence.”

Upon hearing this, Bai Ruozhu became excited, ”First love? Wow, no wonder you were so indecisive. With your first love passionately affectionate in front of you, even a stone-hearted person would warm up.”

Tang Feng’s expression suddenly turned grim, ”You don’t know, I was killed by her!”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, ”She” obviously didn’t refer to Princess Fule, but that first love from the previous life who looked exactly like Princess Fule.

”No wonder you took up this task so readily, wanting to confirm Princess Fule’s identity and seek justice for yourself, right? But she’s not your enemy; perhaps you could reconsider?” Bai Ruozhu winked.

”It’s impossible to reconsider. Every time I see her, I’m reminded of how I was killed in my previous life. This resentment is hard to quell, and I even wish I could kill her,” Tang Feng said through gritted teeth.

Even as he spoke, he couldn’t help but think of the things that had happened along the way.

He smoothly assisted Princess Fule, and because he wanted to test her identity, he had to get a bit closer to her. This led Princess Fule to develop some affection towards him.

Just after setting off, they encountered an assassination, but fortunately, Tang Feng was prepared, repelling the assassin and saving Princess Fule’s life, which increased her affection for him.

At this point, he also realized that Princess Fule wasn’t his enemy from a past life, and he wasn’t one to confuse right and wrong, so he naturally wouldn’t harm Princess Fule, but he kept his distance from her.

Princess Fule naturally sensed his distancing, feeling both disappointed and helpless. As they neared the Capital City, they encountered another assassination, this time Princess Fule took a sword for Tang Feng.

Tang Feng’s mind flooded with the image of Princess Fule’s pale face, forcing a smile at him, saying, ”I’m fine. You saved me once; I saved you once. We’re even now.”

She was afraid he would feel guilty and burdened, so she said such words. What a good girl she was.

It’s just a pity...

Tang Feng couldn’t get over that hurdle in his heart.

By the time Bai Ruozhu left the Tang Residence, she had heard the whole story between Tang Feng and Princess Fule and couldn’t help but feel sorry for her as she had a good impression of the princess.

Tang Feng didn’t dislike her, but he couldn’t defeat his own inner demons.

When Bai Ruozhu returned to the residence, Jiang Yichun was already home, looking displeased, ”Where did you go? I’ve been waiting for you for ages.”

”Where could I go that you wouldn’t know? You finally came home early once, and you’re unhappy waiting for me? How many times have I waited for you? Should we keep track?” Bai Ruozhu rattled off a bunch of complaints, and Jiang Yichun immediately deflated.

”In the future, don’t meet Tang Feng alone. After all, there are differences between men and women,” Jiang Yichun said sourly.

Bai Ruozhu pouted; she wasn’t sure how to explain that she and Tang Feng were just ”fellow townspeople” to Achun.

”Princess Fule likes Tang Feng, but unfortunately, the blossom falls with intention, but the water flows without passion,” Bai Ruozhu said with emotion.

Jiang Yichun frowned and said, ”Did you know? At today’s morning court, someone advised that the country cannot be without an heir for a day, and with the emperor’s few offspring, the harem should be expanded and a new empress established soon.”

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback, first thinking of Concubine Le’s feelings, ”Will the new empress be chosen from one of the palace concubines, or will they find someone new?”

”It’s still uncertain. Someone suggested that the emperor should take Princess Fule of Chengshui into the harem,” Jiang Yichun said with a severe face, ”So it’s best not to mention that Princess Fule fancies Tang Feng, otherwise it might cause significant trouble for him.”

Bai Ruozhu felt slightly uncomfortable, but then thought she might be overthinking things. Princess Fule came to Danliang for an alliance marriage, whether she marries a noble or enters the palace, it’s still an alliance. And being with the emperor would have even greater effects.

”Some even suggested that the emperor marry Princess Fule as the empress and establish a century-long friendship with Chengshui,” Jiang Yichun added.

Bai Ruozhu was astonished again, ”How is that possible? How could there be a reason to take a foreign princess as empress? If Princess Fule bears a crown prince to inherit the throne, wouldn’t Danliang become Chengshui’s territory? The legacy wouldn’t survive. Isn’t Concubine Xian managing harem affairs? Why hasn’t anyone suggested promoting her to empress?”
