Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1603: Chapter 1603: Muyu’s Exceptional Performance

Bai Ruozhu glanced at the Grand Princess again and said, ”It’s one thing to push Yu Chenghua today, after all, he’s a grown man. But the other day, you pushed Zhihe into agreeing to let Dou Yun in, and you must know that Zhihe had just gotten married the day before.”

”Stop making sarcastic remarks here. Jiang Zhihe is Jiang Yichun’s cousin, and you’re blatantly biased. What about Dou Yun’s reputation as a young lady? Even if there’s some family distance, do you really intend to force her to death?” the Grand Princess said.

Dou Yun appeared as if she were about to faint, as if she really couldn’t live any longer. But for someone truly seeking death, it’s been days now and she’s still alive. Either she never intended to die, or she changed her mind.

”So according to the Princess, if a man touches Dou Yun, she has to marry him; otherwise, she cannot continue living?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”Dou Yun is a chaste and virtuous woman, valuing filial piety and the virtues of a woman. How can such a good woman be allowed to meet such a tragic end as suicide?” the Grand Princess said without any shame.

Bai Ruozhu secretly smiled in her heart but put on a troubled expression on her face, saying, ”What should we do then? The first time Dou Yun tried to hang herself at the gate of the Yu Residence and failed, she wanted to bang her head against the wall to die. To save her, my guard Muyu forcibly held her and took her back home. Since she is a chaste woman, she should only marry Muyu.”

She looked confused, ”A woman can’t have two husbands; there has to be an order, right? When Dou Yun first attempted suicide, she was saved and held by the guard Muyu, and the second time she went to hang herself at the Yu Residence, she bumped into Yu Chenghua, so now she has to marry Yu Chenghua. Doesn’t being held by Muyu count? Are we disregarding the norms between men and women?”

Bai Ruozhu glanced outside the hall, ”My guard Muyu is right outside. The Emperor can summon him to ask. At that time, there were witnesses from the Yu family’s neighbors who can testify. Do Dou Yun and the Grand Princess think a guard doesn’t count as a man? Or do they belittle Muyu’s status? I must clarify, Muyu is under my husband’s command and holds an official position.”

Muyu outside the hall could hear the conversation inside, and with Bai Ruozhu speaking loudly, his legs went weak, wanting to kneel down to Bai Ruozhu in gratitude but dreading falling into such a pit.

Bai Ruozhu happened to see Muyu peeking with a sorrowful face outside the hall, quickly winked at him, oh dear, don’t be so naive. Isn’t this the way to muddle through it first? Dou Yun may not even come after you, and even if she does later, there are ways to resolve it.

Muyu knew by Bai Ruozhu’s manner that he had no strength to resist. He realized why madam brought him into the palace today. She had calculated everything already. How could his brain possibly outwit hers?

The Dou family was dumbfounded on their side. How did a guard suddenly come into the picture?

Dou Yun’s face turned pale instantly, staring at Bai Ruozhu, saying, ”You, you did it on purpose, deliberately letting your guard ruin my innocence!”

The Grand Princess furrowed her brows and quickly said, ”It was a rescue, done in a state of urgency, it doesn’t count.”

Bai Ruozhu beamed at the Grand Princess, ”Since rescuing someone is done in urgency, then the second time Dou Yun hanged herself and Yu Chenghua rescued, that was also urgent, wasn’t it? Moreover, he did not hold Dou Yun even once, but Muyu did in public. Why are you fixated on Yu Chenghua?”

Over there, Fan Li silently moved aside. It was evident Bai Ruozhu was going to win this argument. At this moment, he didn’t want to draw Bai Ruozhu’s attention.

Bai Ruozhu turned to Dou Yun, ”When my younger sister got married, you hanged yourself at her husband’s gate, and I happened to be there. When you were unreasonable and wanted to hit the wall, wasn’t I supposed to have someone stop you? Should I have watched you crash to death? How can you say I deliberately let someone ruin your reputation? Muyu also has a clean background, and he hasn’t said anything.”

”It was you pushing me to the edge, sending my parents to prison, and publicly slandering them. I was so angry I hit the wall. Now it seems you’ve schemed it all out, letting the guard humiliate me!” Dou Yun argued back.

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”So your attempt to commit suicide became my planned scheme from the beginning. Then your second attempt at the Yu Residence and clashing with Yu Chenghua, forcing him to marry you, isn’t that even more planned?”

Since Bai Ruozhu mentioned Muyu holding Dou Yun, Dou Ning and Dou Madam were already frightened. They might cause a scene outside, but in front of the Emperor, they didn’t have that courage.

The Emperor, having heard enough, stopped Dou Yun from arguing further.

”Enough, I understand. If it’s said that Dou Yun’s innocence is tarnished and someone has to take responsibility, she should indeed marry the guard Muyu who held her first,” the Emperor said, instructing Wang Shun behind him, ”Call Muyu in, I want to ask if he’s willing to marry Dou Yun.”

Wang Shun received the order and quickly went to the hall entrance to call Muyu in. Muyu’s expression was as if he had swallowed a fly; being willing was out of the question.

Bai Ruozhu gave Muyu an apologetic look, for now, he had no choice but to suffer a grievance.

Before the Emperor could question Muyu, Dou Yun suddenly knelt on the ground with a thud, then knocked her head on the floor three times, her forehead swelling red as she looked up.

”Please, Your Majesty, see clearly. I, as a common girl, absolutely cannot marry my cousin’s guard,” Dou Yun cried.

Muyu saluted the Emperor and said, ”Reporting to Your Majesty, I also do not wish to marry Miss Dou.”

The Emperor looked at Muyu with interest and asked, ”Don’t you want to take responsibility?”

”If she were the daughter of a good family, even if only a poor family, as long as her character is upright and her temperament gentle, I would absolutely be willing to take responsibility!” Muyu’s expression suddenly became stern, ”But Dou Yun’s parents repaid kindness with malice towards the Jiang Residence, and rather than persuade them otherwise, she hangs herself at the Yu Residence, causing a scene. Is such a woman’s character upright?”

”Even if not considering faults, I can accept her flaws, but if she forces herself on another man, always claiming to marry someone else, how could I, Muyu, ever marry her into my home?”

Bai Ruozhu was dumbfounded listening. Was this truly the silly Muyu she knew? Had he been possessed by a ghost?

Muyu stood proudly just then, exhibiting quite a bit of Jiang Yichun’s demeanor, but Bai Ruozhu suddenly spotted his fist clenched behind his back, trembling with tension and unease, exposing his nervousness.

Bai Ruozhu almost burst out laughing; Muyu was fighting for his life, but his performance truly exceeded expectations. Even she couldn’t help but praise him thirty-two times!

”Your Majesty, you can’t listen to their nonsense. According to this guard’s words, no one is responsible for Dou Yun? Will you watch a good woman be forced to death?” the Grand Princess stated loudly.
