Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1629: Chapter 1629 - The Story of the Rotten Peach Blossom

This meal was a great inconvenience for Bai Ruozhu, as if she shouldn’t have come, and she even felt a bit intrusive.

But she was already there, so leaving wouldn’t be right either. She could only force herself to finish the meal, saying she had matters to attend to at the Female Physicians Institution, and made her departure early.

The Empress Dowager didn’t try to keep her, instead giving her a meaningful smile with a hint of apology within it.

Bai Ruozhu returned to the Female Physicians Institution and pondered for a long time without reaching a conclusion, until in the afternoon, when Jiang Yichun came to take her home, mentioning the matter in the horse carriage.

Jiang Yichun held her hand, fiddling with her fingers, and said with a smile, ”You’ll get used to it. The Empress Dowager has no choice. This matter used to be handled by the Empress, but now that the Empress has passed away, and the Concubine Virtuous isn’t the actual Empress, the Empress Dowager must step in.”

”Even though the Ma Family has fallen, they are related to Ma Tongfang to some extent. Now that Ma Tongfang is battling in the Southwest, the Emperor has to care for his clan’s reputation, lest it affects Ma Tongfang’s situation,” Jiang Yichun continued to explain.

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback, ”Didn’t they say this Ma Family was a destitute household in the Capital? How did they end up being related to Ma Tongfang?”

”They belong to the same clan, and Ma Linglong’s branch is quite close to Ma Tongfang, but Ma Tongfang is only into fighting in battles and doesn’t know how to manage finances, so he can’t help them much. However, they are still clan relations, and with them being so embarrassing now, Ma Tongfang’s reputation can’t be ignored,” Jiang Yichun said.

Thinking it over like this, Bai Ruozhu was able to understand.

”What does Ma Linglong mean now, does she want to sever ties with Saihan or keep waiting for Saihan?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”Ma Linglong claims to have been taken by Saihan forcefully, but she’s afraid of spreading rumors and being judged by others, so she can only endure it,” Jiang Yichun said with a hint of coldness in his expression. ”That Ma Linglong is not an easy person, and her words have implicated Diao Yao.”

Bai Ruozhu rolled up her sleeves upon hearing this, ”What’s she trying to say? Does the Emperor just let her say such things? Fine, the Emperor needs to care about the face and emotions of the commanding general, but I dislike so much. Later, I’ll make sure to properly deal with this Ma Linglong.”

Jiang Yichun suddenly laughed, raised his hand to gently brush her nose, ”As long as it doesn’t lead to any rumors damaging the Ma Family’s reputation, you can handle her however you like.”

”Don’t worry, I’ll only target her personally, I couldn’t care less about the Ma Family!” Bai Ruozhu said with a mischievous smile.

Jiang Yichun laughed and shook his head, already predicting how miserable Ma Linglong would be.

But before Bai Ruozhu could deal with Ma Linglong, there was even more troubling news to handle.

Early the next morning, Dou Ning and his wife delivered Dou Yun to the Bai Residence’s main gate. Given the presence of the Holy Edict, and the Emperor’s decree stating urgency and simplicity for the wedding, their delivery of the person seemed acceptable.

But not only Muyu, even the entire Bai Family felt disgruntled, with even the servants thinking Muyu suffered greatly.

Lin Ping’er angrily considered not letting anyone in, but Bai Ruozhu persuaded them to allow Dou Yun to enter and settled her in Muyu’s living quarters. Due to Dou Yun’s condition, she couldn’t be housed with other guards. Quickly, Bai Ruozhu requested a room to be arranged for them in the old lady’s western courtyard.

Additionally, a clever servant was assigned to care for Dou Yun.

”Pa Kui, remember you are here to take care of Dou Yun. Don’t be clever and bully her. Our residence still has rules,” Bai Ruozhu said sternly, noting that if Dou Yun turned into a fool, it would be unreasonable for servants to secretly mistreat her.

After all, speaking of deep hatred, it’s really Jiang Zhihe who has issues with Dou Yun, not Bai Residence.

”I understand, there won’t be any nonsense. If she acts oddly, I’ll immediately report it to you,” the maid named Pa Kui said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded satisfied, gave her some silver as a reward, and sent her off.

That night, Muyu and Dou Yun had to hold a simple ceremony to become officially married. Bai Ruozhu suggested setting up a few tables at home, but Muyu was visibly upset and said, ”Madam, can’t we skip the wedding wine? If we have it, I’ll want to kill myself.”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, and she said, ”Alright, since Dou Yun is erratic, we shouldn’t adhere strictly to tradition. Let’s make it simple.”

In truth, she had personal motives, hoping Muyu’s marriage could be as low-key as possible, so if he wanted to find a good match in the future, it wouldn’t be impossible.

Additionally, Bai Ruozhu carefully arranged for an ear room for Muyu’s room, where a maid could accompany Dou Yun in the main house, while Muyu could sleep in the ear room without sharing a bed with Dou Yun.

Of course, if one day Muyu really wanted to do so, that would be a mutual occurrence.

As morning came, Bai Ruozhu heard Chenfeng laughingly speaking to Jianqi outside the house, ”No idea how Muyu’s wedding night went, and there was no wedding wine, such a pity.”

Jianqi laughed, ”Ask him when he comes later.”

Bai Ruozhu made a face at Jiang Yichun in the room and quietly said, ”See, you all like to bully Muyu. He’s already so miserable and still gets teased by his companions. You should tell Chenfeng not to rub salt into Muyu’s wounds.”

Jiang Yichun laughed, ”Who’s the one who loves picking on Muyu the most? They say if the upper is crooked the lower will also be crooked, they learned it from you.”

Bai Ruozhu was at a loss for words, then glared and said, ”When did I ever bully him? It’s just that he’s always being silly and I really can’t help but tease him sometimes. And every task involving fetching women and running into women, isn’t it always assigned to him?”

”I don’t want that either, look at Jinglei and the others, they might accidentally hit someone hard enough to knock them flying, potentially causing a fatality,” Jiang Yichun said with another laugh. ”Actually, it wasn’t unheard of for women to try to seduce me in the past. I remember once asking Jinglei to remove a woman, and he didn’t want to touch her, so just kicked her flying, and then...”

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes widened, ”What happened in the end? Did he kick her to death?”

”No, almost caused a fatality. The woman was bleeding, and nearly lost her child. The doctor said she was over a month pregnant, and she was eventually saved,” Jiang Yichun revealed his disdain, implying ”I also understand Medical Skills, but I wouldn’t save such women.”

Bai Ruozhu was dumbstruck upon hearing this, surprised that Achun had encountered such a thing in the past. The woman was clearly trying to find someone to help raise her child with deceit.

She thought for a while, ”Oh, tell me how that woman got close to you, and how she tried to seduce you? Quickly, explain everything, no hiding any details!”

Jiang Yichun reached out to rub her head, laughing, ”Not talking about that, I’ll talk about another thing, that one really was struck dead by lightning.”
