Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1632: Chapter 1632 He Lianlian Visits

By the time the lunch was set up on the table, Jiang Yichun returned with a somber expression.

Bai Ruozhu anxiously went up to him and asked, ”How did it go?”

”It was an unexpected death, no signs of foul play,” Jiang Yichun replied.

Bai Ruozhu was left with mixed feelings, and only after a while did she sigh and say, ”Such an accident shouldn’t have happened.”

Lin Ping’er worried about affecting their mood, hurriedly said, ”Let’s eat first. After the meal, I plan to bring Ruolan over to this yard. It’ll be easier for me and your father to take care of her; the child is probably terrified.”

”Alright, I’ll leave it to you then,” Bai Ruozhu agreed, realizing it was a reasonable approach. Bai Ruolan won’t trust others easily, and changing a servant might not ensure she’s well cared for.

”What hard work? She’s a pitiful child,” Lin Ping’er wanted her daughter to let go but couldn’t help sighing.

Bai Ruozhu’s mind flashed with images of Bai Ruolan’s crazed screams, causing a sharp pain in her heart.

After the meal, Jiang Yichun went out to handle some affairs while Bai Ruozhu sent someone to prepare Lamei’s body for burial and fetch Bai Ruolan to the main courtyard.

The servant had barely left when they hurried back in, and Bai Ruozhu frowned, ”What’s going on?”

”It’s not about Lady Ruolan, but as soon as I went out, the gatekeeper reported that a woman surnamed He is outside, crying and looking for her husband. I came back to inform you,” the servant said.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes ignited with anger; the woman surnamed He must be He Lianlian.

Any other day might be fine, but today her mood was already terrible; this He Lianlian was a slap in the face.

”Ruozhu, what’s going on?” Lin Ping’er asked worriedly, even glancing at Bai Yihong, who shivered and quickly waved his hands, ”It’s nothing to do with me. It’s been cold lately, and I’ve hardly gone out.”

Bai Ruozhu quickly explained, ”She’s here to cause trouble for Muyu. It’s forcing Muyu to marry Dou Yun even though he doesn’t want to, the woman is He Lianlian.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Ping’er rolled up her sleeves, ”I must go see her. Muyu was perfectly fine but was forced into such a situation, and I’ve been itching to deal with He Lianlian. Now she’s delivered herself right to us!”

Bai Ruozhu twitched her lips; He Lianlian was a troublemaker, but the issue with Muyu was partly his own doing.

”Ruozhu, keep an eye on your mother, she’s no spring chicken and shouldn’t strain her back,” Bai Yihong said with concern, only to receive a big eye roll from Lin Ping’er.

”I’m still young, how could I strain my back? My physique is quite strong!” Lin Ping’er retorted irately.

Bai Ruozhu quickly pulled her mother along, ”Mom, don’t waste your energy. Save it for He Lianlian.”

The mother and daughter exchanged a knowing smile, both understanding what needed to be done.

Lamei’s death was a heavy burden on their hearts, making them feel miserable, and now they had a fitting target, He Lianlian, to vent their feelings.

When they reached the main gate, they saw He Lianlian crying with tears streaked down her face; however, her crying was quite tactful, evoking sympathy without appearing too unattractive, even exuding a delicate charm that stirs empathetic feelings in onlookers.

”Which brothel’s girl are you from, coming here to cry like this?” Lin Ping’er rudely questioned straight away.

Bai Ruozhu stifled a laugh; He Lianlian was dressed very flamboyantly and cried in such a manner, indeed resembling a girl from a brothel.

”How can Madam Bai insult me like this?” He Lianlian cried, wiping her eyes with a woeful expression, ”I know in Jinshui City, there were some misunderstandings with Lord Jiang, but a woman’s reputation is of utmost importance, shouldn’t he take responsibility now?”

Lin Ping’er quickly glanced at Bai Ruozhu, surprised it was about Jiang Yichun when it was supposed to be about Muyu.

Bai Ruozhu signaled her mother to remain calm; He Lianlian wanted to stir up trouble by saying things ambiguously, easily leading people to misunderstand.

”What is Miss He saying, suggesting my husband didn’t take responsibility? Didn’t your father ask the emperor for permission to marry you to our guard, Muyu, saying Muyu should take responsibility for you? Why is it now that you imply my husband owes you something? Are you two deceiving the emperor with your contradictory intentions?” Bai Ruozhu loudly accused.

He Lianlian was stupefied; she thought Bai Ruozhu would keep matters with Jiang Yichun under wraps for the sake of face. Didn’t they say notable ladies love their reputation dearly, especially those in the Capital? Why was Bai Ruozhu speaking so bluntly?

”Speechless now? I still want to settle scores with you; shamelessly clinging to my family’s guard, forcing him to choose a woman with a broken head over you, the unclean one. And now you have the nerve to cause trouble?” Bai Ruozhu, overwhelmed with anger, unleashed her full fury.

Lin Ping’er chimed in, ”Still trying to latch onto my son-in-law? Just look at yourself, you brothel prostitute-style. Don’t think being an officer’s daughter makes you special; see if any imperial court official’s daughter would be crying at another’s doorstep seeking a husband. You’re not even wed yet, yet saying such shameful things; I feel embarrassed for you.”

”Exactly. The emperor arranged another marriage for Muyu, so when did he become your husband? Why are you causing trouble at our Bai Residence?” Bai Ruozhu chuckled, ”Yet here you are, perfectly whole, is marrying really so difficult that you have to shamelessly stick to someone?”

He Lianlian didn’t retort but instead wept softly for a while before speaking, ”It’s my ignorance that angered Madam. Yet a girl’s chastity is vital; Muyu has already touched me, so how can I marry another? If I cannot wed Muyu, I can only prove my innocence through death.”

Saying so, she staggered towards the nearby stone lions, her fragile figure lacking strength, seeming as if a gust of wind could topple her, prompting onlookers to rush forward and stop her.

Bai Ruozhu sneered, ”Touched you once, and you insist on marriage? Not marrying means proving your integrity through death? When just now, others pulled you for rescue, so you want to marry them too?”

The crowd saw the ones who held back He Lianlian, consisting of a woman, a young man, and a middle-aged man in his forties.

The young man quickly retreated, ”I have a wife and kids, don’t drag me into this.”

Frightened, he swiftly exited the crowd, leaving without watching the commotion.

The woman smiled benignly, unfazed as she was a woman herself.

”My spouse passed away years ago, and I’m alone now. If you’ll allow me to be a second wife, I certainly wouldn’t mind!” shouted the forty-something middle-aged man, exposing a sleazy grin.
