Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1608: Chapter 1608 Tang Feng’s Concerns

Very soon, she saw Elder Jiang Ge, who was sent back to bed. As expected, his face was deathly pale, and there was a slight sheen of cold sweat on his forehead. She hurriedly asked Dengdeng to wait by the side for her, then quickly stepped forward to take Elder Jiang Ge’s pulse and inserted the needles, her actions smooth and efficient in one go.

Little Dengdeng rarely saw his mother treating patients. At this moment, however, he didn’t feel bored at all. Instead, he widened his eyes and stared intently, even watching with great interest.

Many years later, when he was referred to as ”the Dual Master of Medicine and Sword” in the Jianghu, his mother always mentioned this incident from his childhood, saying it must be her superb medical skills that sparked her son’s interest in studying medicine.

After quite a while, Bai Ruozhu finally put away the needles and asked for paper and pen to write a prescription. When the prescription was written, she handed it to Jiang Xuexiang, who was worried sick beside her.

”Uncle, prepare the medicine according to the prescription, boil three bowls of water into one, and take it morning and night. I’ll check on him again in a few days,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Jiang Xuexiang took the prescription, thanked her, and hurried out to get the medicine.

At this moment, Elder Jiang Ge muttered and awakened from his coma.

Bai Ruozhu went to take a look, seeing his eyes dazed, clearly not truly awake as his mind was still somewhat confused.

”Am I blind, being bitten by my own kin, and in the end, it was someone I considered an outsider who saved me? What have I done all these years? It’s really been a waste of life!” Elder Jiang Ge mumbled incoherently. Bai Ruozhu still had to put in a lot of effort, piecing together his words, to understand what he meant.

The ones who bit him, though they were his kin, were naturally Dou Ning’s family.

The ones he considered as outsiders but who saved him were Jiang Yichun and herself.

As Bai Ruozhu listened, she felt a little uncomfortable. So, Elder Jiang Ge always saw Achun as an outsider. No wonder he always nitpicked in the past and never looked at them favorably.

Thinking about this, her mood immediately soured. She took Little Dengdeng and informed the steward before leaving.

After she walked far away, the old steward approached Elder Jiang Ge’s side and quietly asked, ”Old Master, have you come to your senses?”

Apparently, Elder Jiang Ge hadn’t come to his senses. His words were still ambiguous and unclear.

The old steward sighed and, somewhat worried, said, ”Old Master, you better not speak recklessly. Just now, the Young Mistress didn’t look too happy. I don’t know if she’ll become suspicious. What should we do?”

Thinking back to that eventful year, perhaps only he and the Old Master knew about it. His life was saved by the Old Master, and he wouldn’t divulge a word even if it meant death. However, now the Old Master himself almost spilled it. How could they stop this?

Bai Ruozhu didn’t know what happened afterward, nor did she tell Jiang Yichun about this little episode. She didn’t want Jiang Yichun to feel upset after hearing it since Elder Jiang Ge wasn’t significantly related to them anyway.

The following day, early in the morning, Bai Ruozhu went to the Female Physicians Institution, busying herself the whole morning. By noon, her second brother came to find her.

A group of female physicians rarely saw Bai Zepei, each secretly sizing him up, and the bold Tian Fang softly said, ”Master Bai, your second brother is truly exceptionally handsome, just as the rumors outside say.”

The others nodded, a few women gathered and softly spoke, unable to suppress their laughter.

Bai Ruozhu gave them a playful glance and said, ”You all better not misplace your affections. My second brother is already taken.”

With that, she laughed and walked towards Bai Zepei, who was waiting outside the door, saying, ”Alright, let’s hurry up and go.”

After they left, Hao Baishuang walked out from the side, her eyes filled with disdain and hatred. Now, in the Female Physicians Institution, she had no status. Not a single person paid attention to her, and she couldn’t recruit any subordinates. Although she was called an assistant, she wasn’t even considered a menial worker.

She also tried to visit a few concubines in the palace, hoping to boost her reputation by treating them, but to little effect. On the one hand, her medical skills were just average. They might have been considered good among the common folk, but in the palace, not so much. She was skilled in obstetrics and gynecology, but there were rarely any pregnant women in the palace, and even if someone was pregnant with a Dragon Heir, she wouldn’t have the chance to see them.

On the other hand, because those concubines were good at reading the signs of the times, they all knew she had a falling out with Bai Ruozhu, and the Grand Princess didn’t have time to help her. Who would want to associate with her?

However, there were exceptions, like Imperial Concubine Liu, oh no, now she should be called Liu Fei.

These days, she kept going to Liu Fei’s place, chatting with her, and reporting Bai Ruozhu’s situation to Liu Xiyu. In private, Liu Fei even rewarded her twice.

...

Meanwhile, Bai Ruozhu and her second brother left the palace to visit Yingkelai. As soon as they entered the private room, they saw a group of familiar faces, all friends met during the Jiangnan Eight Academies Competition, including Gu Xue’an and Lin Xufei.

”Is this a reenactment of the Eight Academies Competition?” Bai Ruozhu jokingly said.

Tang Feng laughed and said, ”I really wish to go back to those days. The youthful spirit of those times is much more carefree than now. Speaking of which, if Miss Wu who used to be with you came, it would be even livelier. I still remember her heroic riding and archery.”

Everyone praised upon hearing this, agreeing that Tu Ying’s horsemanship was excellent, and her archery was even better. Her performance back then was indeed spectacular.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t expect Tang Feng to mention Tu Ying and was somewhat surprised. Was it because he reminisced about the Eight Academies Competition that he thought of Tu Ying? Or did he have some findings related to Tu Ying during this trip to Jiangnan?

But since there were many people around, she didn’t find it convenient to ask, only planning to privately inquire Tang Feng after the gathering.

”Tu Ying’s father guards the Northwest, and she lives in Beiyu City. It’s not easy for her to come to the Capital. However, my parents said they would return home for the annual ancestral worship, so we should meet her then,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

At least outwardly, one couldn’t say that Tu Ying privately joined the military.

”Are you returning home for the New Year? That would take a long time,” Gu Xue’an asked reluctantly.

”My second brother passed the exams this year, so my parents said we should go back for the New Year to pay homage to our ancestors, as such opportunities will be rare in the future.”

Although Bai Yihong knew he wasn’t Bai Fu’s biological son, and he did harbor some resentment towards Bai Fu, he was grateful for the Bai Clan’s support and nurturing. So he continued to regard the Bai Clan as his own sect, and Bai Zepei agreed with this.

Chatting again about the scenery of Beiyu City, Bai Zepei spoke more, and soon the topic shifted to Tang Feng’s experiences during his Jiangnan trip. Tang Feng was eloquent, and everyone listened attentively, making the atmosphere quite lively.

As the conversation came to an end, Tang Feng suddenly asked, ”The emperor is probably going to decree a marriage for the three of us soon. Does anyone have any news? I won’t ask about Zepei’s situation, but I do want to know which Noble Lady the emperor has arranged for me.”

”Why, are you eager to see her already?” Lin Xufei teased with a smile, ”No need to be in such a rush for these days, isn’t it? Once you get married, you can see her to your heart’s content.”

Tang Feng smiled but didn’t say much.

Bai Ruozhu saw it clearly and also understood Tang Feng’s current thoughts. He was a modern man; how could he be willing to marry an unfamiliar woman whom he had never met?
