Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1628: Chapter 1628: Can’t Understand

Jing Lei glanced at him indifferently and said, ”You talk too much.”

If it weren’t for being in the palace, Muyu would have wailed out loud; isn’t that so? Jing Lei, with his few words, caught Luluo’s attention. He only said a bit more, and it caused trouble. Look at his mouth; why does he babble when he’s nervous?

When Jiang Yichun returned in the evening, he also reprimanded Muyu harshly, causing Muyu to almost cry, muttering, ”Master, I’m already miserable enough; it’s my marriage that’s ruined now. Please don’t scold me anymore.”

Jiang Yichun took a deep breath, forcibly suppressed his anger, and indeed didn’t scold Muyu anymore, just as Muyu said, he was already miserable enough.

Bai Ruozhu motioned to Jiang Yichun and asked Muyu and the others to leave and rest first. She then pulled Jiang Yichun to sit down and asked, ”Do you think there’s a way to plead with the Emperor?”

”I’ll try it tomorrow, but Muyu himself brought this up, it’s probably unchangeable.” Jiang Yichun sighed.

Turns out there was no need to wait for the next day, not long after, a eunuch brought the Holy Edict to the door. After delivering the edict, he smiled and said, ”Congratulations to Guard Mu, I still have to visit the Dou Family to deliver the edict, so I’ll take my leave first.”

Muyu was already dumbfounded, he didn’t even know to offer a reward, congratulate him? Congratulate for what!

”There’s no way now; the Holy Edict has been issued, and it can’t be changed.” Bai Ruozhu sighed and said.

Jiang Yichun shrugged his shoulders, ”Forget it, whether it’s a blessing or a curse, he’ll have to endure it.”

The next day, when Bai Ruozhu entered the palace, she unexpectedly ran into an acquaintance on the way to the Female Physicians Institution.

This acquaintance wasn’t quite that familiar, but Bai Ruozhu remembered her.

The woman was Ma Linglong, who had previously plotted against her second brother, and she was accompanied by another woman, presumably Ma Linglong’s mother.

Bai Ruozhu discreetly observed the two, noticing Ma Linglong’s expression was somewhat unnatural upon seeing Bai Ruozhu, but quickly returned to normal, even smiling as she approached, greeting, ”Hello, Mrs. Jiang, I didn’t expect to meet you in the palace again.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled faintly, ”I serve in the palace, Miss Ma. You might as well call me Official Bai. You’re in the palace for?”

Ma Linglong smiled and replied, ”The Empress Dowager summoned my mother to chat. I’m just accompanying her.”

Bai Ruozhu scoffed inwardly, nodded to Ma and Lady Ma, ”Then you better hurry, don’t delay the time. I’ll head to the Female Physicians Institution first.”

After exchanging farewells, once they walked further away, Lady Ma displeased remarked, ”What’s so special about a Female Chief Doctor? She even shows us an attitude, does she deserve it?”

Ma Linglong quickly pulled her mother’s sleeve, whispering, ”Mother, this is the palace, speak with caution. The Female Chief Doctor holds a fourth-rank official position, best not to mention this.”

Lady Ma grunted twice but said no more, showing she listened to her daughter.

Although Bai Ruozhu walked far away, her hearing is good, and she clearly heard the conversation between the Ma mother and daughter. She inwardly scoffed that saying the Empress Dowager summoned Lady Ma to talk was nothing but Ma Linglong giving herself some prestige.

She and Saihan were caught by many people having an affair. Originally, she was supposed to marry Saihan, but unexpectedly Saihan said he wanted to take her as a secondary consort and still marry Princess Diao Yao as his primary consort. This has already made her a laughing stock in the Capital City. Unexpectedly, Saihan failed to abduct Princess Diao Yao, fled the Capital, and is now nowhere to be found. What will Ma Linglong do in the future?

Bai Ruozhu was curious whether the Ma Family would sever ties with Saihan or ask the Emperor to arrange a diplomatic marriage for Ma Linglong so she could establish herself in the Capital.

After all, a woman caught having an affair before marriage without ending up in a pig cage is already lucky.

While pondering, she soon arrived near the Imperial Medical Hospital, and saw a man hurrying towards them. He stopped a eunuch and asked, ”Excuse me, little eunuch, can you tell me how to get to Cining Palace? The eunuch who was supposed to guide me went to the Clean Room as he’s unwell, and I really can’t find my way.”

The eunuch glanced at him and asked, ”And you are?”

The man politely responded, ”I am Ma Jinan, accompanying my mother into the palace. I just met the Emperor, and now I need to go to Cining Palace to meet the Empress Dowager, but I’ve lost my way.”

”Oh, it’s Young Master Ma, I’ll lead you there.” The eunuch astutely said.

Bai Ruozhu was about to walk past him but slowed down upon hearing the name ”Ma Jinan.” She quietly observed Ma Jinan more; this Ma Jinan was Ma Linglong’s ”second brother.” Looking at him, with a poised stance and although not as tall as her second brother, still quite tall. Fair-skinned like jade, with a pleasant voice; he seemed to be a gentle young man.

Of course, in Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, he couldn’t compare to her second brother.

Ma Linglong secretly plotted against Bai Zepei, trying to involve Princess Yingtong with Bai Zepei, all for this Ma Jinan.

Yet Ma Jinan likes Si Yihuan, who seemingly has no interest in him. Otherwise, given the Si Family’s adoration for their daughter, she could have expressed this to her family.

Moreover, Si Yihuan was waiting to make her his sister-in-law.

Thinking this, she wondered what the Ma Family would say when they met the Empress Dowager, and how the Empress Dowager would manage Ma Linglong’s situation?

Come midday meal, Bai Ruozhu specially went to Cining Palace. The Empress Dowager often reminds her to join for lunch, but usually, she doesn’t want to waste too much time going back and forth, so she refrained from consistently going for a meal at Cining Palace, but today’s circumstances were different.

She didn’t expect the Ma family hadn’t left when she arrived, and the Empress Dowager actually invited them to dine!

Bai Ruozhu was very surprised; although the Empress Dowager indeed had a good temper and gentle nature, how did she get so close to the Ma Family? Traditionally, she hadn’t shown any particular concern for the Ma Family.

”Ruozhu is here, just in time with so many guests. Come dine with us. Let me introduce, this is Lady Ma and her daughter Ma Linglong, and the second son of the Ma Family, Ma Jinan. There’s no need to introduce this one to you, right? It’s the Female Chief Doctor Bai Ruozhu.” The Empress Dowager said with a smile.

Bai Ruozhu had to salute the three Ma members and smiled, ”I bumped into Lady Ma and Miss Ma earlier in the palace, and now again we meet. Truly fate.”

Ma Jinan seemed surprised and suddenly said, ”I remember now, seeing Official Bai earlier when I was lost. But obviously, we’re not acquainted, and I didn’t have the chance to greet.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded to him, ”Young Master Ma is courteous. I wasn’t paying attention at the time, otherwise, I could have pointed you in the right direction.”

Seeing both sides familiar, the Empress Dowager smiled even more and instructed the servants to serve the meal. Soon, everyone sat down to eat. Bai Ruozhu, contemplating the Empress Dowager’s motives, followed the rule of not speaking during meals, opting to remain silent.

Yet the Empress Dowager, showing extra kindness, instructed Hao Mu to dish twice for Ma Linglong, leaving Bai Ruozhu even more puzzled.
