Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1640: Chapter 1640: Tang Feng’s Unpredictable Moods

”Everyone, get busy, and don’t spread today’s events outside; you know the rules of the residence.” Bai Ruozhu said with a stern face.

The servants hurriedly agreed and went about their respective tasks.

Bai Ruozhu gave some instructions to the guards as well. Dou Yun was easier to handle since she was already married, but Bai Ruolan was still an unmarried Miss, and those guards were men. Witnessing such a scene was indeed inappropriate.

Luckily, the guards she assigned were carefully selected and behaved properly; a few words of advice were enough for them to understand their responsibilities.

Once everything was arranged, she went to the Main Courtyard, where Lin Ping’er and Bai Yihong were already quite anxious.

”Ruozhu, how is it going? Yichun advised us not to go over, but my heart is still uneasy.” Lin Ping’er spoke with some anger, ”Is Dou Yun really foolish? It has only been a few days, and she’s already hitting people, and she happens to hit Ruolan? Is it possible she’s pretending to be foolish to make trouble at our Residence?”

”Mother, I checked Dou Yun’s pulse earlier; her head indeed has issues. She shouldn’t be faking it. Besides, today’s incident started with Ruolan; I already instructed the maids to keep a close watch on both, and such things won’t happen again.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Lin Ping’er was still a bit unsettled, ”She’s not faking? Then how did she become so foolish? She didn’t even lie down for long.”

”It might be due to a head injury, perhaps there’s still some blood clot inside her head.” Bai Ruozhu added.

Bai Yihong, being the soft-hearted one, spoke, ”The young lady is also unfortunate. Despite the many mistakes she made before, now she’s become foolish. Our family doesn’t lack food; we should take good care of her.”

Lin Ping’er rolled her eyes at him, ”As if our family bullied her, when didn’t we give her food? I even had two new outfits made for her; this is clearly treating a grievance with kindness.”

Bai Yihong quickly offered a smiling apology, ”I’m just expressing my thoughts, not implying anything else. You know you’re sharp-tongued but soft-hearted.”

Bai Ruozhu and several of the younger generation nearby secretly laughed, watching their parents argue was indeed a unique flavor.

In the following days, the rumors about the Bai Family’s mad daughter gradually subsided. The common people are like this, getting excited and then calming down, especially when there’s no evidence, and the matter is just hearsay.

Of course, Bai Ruozhu and her family’s efforts behind the scenes also contributed to this.

In a flash, Tang Feng returned to the Capital City after being sent to retrieve Princess Fule from Chengshui. His journey was very smooth, safely bringing back Princess Fule and her entourage.

However, the real princess entering the Capital was not as grand as the false princess because of such events. The Empress of Danliang Country died, and Princess Fule could not possibly enter the Capital City with great fanfare.

Moreover, even if she wished for grandeur, she no longer had the capacity. Many of her attendants and guards were killed or injured; now, she only had about ten people with her.

Bai Ruozhu, upon receiving the news, went to find Tang Feng and learned that Princess Fule was settled in the Guest House, while Tang Feng returned to the Residence to rest.

Since the Female Physicians Institution wasn’t busy, she decided to go to Tang’s Residence. As she approached the Main Gate, she noticed a horse carriage parked outside Tang’s residence.

A woman emerged from the horse carriage. Her complexion appeared pale, and Bai Ruozhu watched from afar, guessing it was due to a deficiency of Qi Blood.

She recognized the woman, or rather the face, from a human skin mask she had seen before.

Indeed, the woman was Princess Fule; wasn’t the Emperor supposed to arrange for her to first rest in the Guest House? What was she doing at Tang’s Residence?

Tang Feng’s household was simple, with just his mother, Scholar Lianluo, and a few loyal servants. His mother remained in Jiangnan, only a few servants accompanied him to the Capital. At least, that’s how it appeared externally, so the yard of Tang’s Residence was small, looking from outside like a slightly affluent merchant’s small courtyard.

Princess Fule instructed the maid to knock on the door, and soon an old servant came to open it and asked, ”May I ask whom this Miss is looking for?”

”Sir, I wish to meet Mr. Tang, could you please help to deliver the message?” Princess Fule said.

Bai Ruozhu perked up her ears to listen; Princess Fule’s voice was pleasant, and she was very polite, seeming like a princess who wouldn’t be annoying.

It’s unfortunate she doesn’t have a good fate.

Her brother died unexpectedly; her young nephew was thrust onto the throne. To ensure her nephew’s safety, she was sent to Danliang Country for a marriage alliance. If that wasn’t enough, she was ambushed en route by assassins who impersonated her and killed the Empress of Danliang. The fact that the Danliang Emperor didn’t hold her accountable was already quite fortunate.

”Alright, I’ll inform him right away. Please wait a moment.” the old servant said.

Princess Fule gently replied, ”Thank you, sir.”

The old servant walked quickly inside, and as he turned, Bai Ruozhu even caught a glimpse of the smile on his side profile. That smile resembled a family member finally finding a girlfriend.

Soon, Tang Feng came out, frowning at Princess Fule and said, ”Princess, why are you not resting well in the Guest House but coming to my residence?”

Princess Fule’s expression slightly froze, as she lowered her head and said, ”I merely wish to thank you for your assistance throughout the journey, additionally hoping you’d offer me some guidance as I’m unfamiliar with the Capital.”

”The Ministry of Rites will arrange for someone to show you around, explaining the customs and rules of the Capital. You needn’t worry.” Tang Feng’s tone was indifferent, carrying a hint of coldness.

Princess Fule’s expression seemed even sadder, as she hesitated and said, ”Oh, maybe I was overly concerned. I just thought we might become more familiar. I wonder if I could invite you for a meal in the coming days? For all the care you’ve shown, I don’t quite know how to express my gratitude.”

”The Princess is too polite. During the palace banquet, there will be a chance to dine together. There’s no need for a private invitation, as it’s not quite appropriate.” Tang Feng refused with remarkable directness and heartlessness.

Princess Fule’s eyes began to redden, nearly crying. She bowed slightly and said, ”Alright, I won’t disturb your rest then and will take my leave.”

She turned away as tears started to fall, yet Tang Feng could no longer see her.

Tang Feng’s face showed a conflicted expression, with eyes revealing reluctance, hesitation, and even flavors of hatred and madness. This was a side of Tang Feng that Bai Ruozhu had never seen before, surprising even her about what had transpired between Tang Feng and Princess Fule.

”Bai Guanghe, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Rites, is a man of integrity. You may seek his assistance if needed.” He suddenly said again.

Princess Fule’s face showed a look of delight, but she didn’t turn around, stopping only to say, ”Alright, I will remember that.”

Saying this, she boarded the horse carriage, which started moving, quickly disappearing around the street corner.

Bai Ruozhu observed Tang Feng from inside the horse carriage; Tang Feng, lost in thought, stood there for quite a while, and only after a moment did he lift his head and see Bai Ruozhu’s horse carriage in the distance.

”Come out; hiding while watching isn’t very fair.” Tang Feng said loudly.

Bai Ruozhu jumped off the horse carriage, smiling as she said, ”I didn’t want to hide, but wouldn’t jumping out just make me a third wheel?”

She was merely teasing him, yet Tang Feng had such a strong reaction...
