Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1607: 1607: Dengdeng Does Not Have the Surname Jiang

After a night of tenderness, the two reconciled as if nothing had happened, their sweetness like honey, and Bai Ruozhu was glowing, even Little Dengdeng said in the morning that mother look pretty today.

Today, they were to go to the Jiang Family to welcome Jiang Zhihe and his wife back home, so breakfast was eaten quickly, then Bai Ruozhu spoke to the Bai Family elders briefly, and took Dengdeng to the Jiang Family.

Bai Ruozhu rarely took Dengdeng to the Jiang Family; now that the Jiang Family wasn’t as chaotic, Elder Jiang Ge wouldn’t create a fuss easily, she felt safe bringing Dengdeng along.

Upon arriving at the Jiang Family, the Jiang Family Matron held Bai Ruozhu close, nearly in tears, continually thanking Bai Ruozhu, if it wasn’t for her support, she would’ve knelt before Bai Ruozhu.

The Jiang Family Matron was somewhat petty, she had once troubled Bai Ruozhu, but she was very fond of her children, hence the gratitude and guilt towards Bai Ruozhu now.

Little Dengdeng eyed the Jiang Family members curiously; he remembered there was a grandpa who was fierce, yet they were all family, leaving him puzzled.

If they were family, why couldn’t that grandpa smile like his maternal grandpa?

”Dengdeng, I’m your cousin uncle, my name is Jiang Yihong.” Jiang Yichun came over to tease Dengdeng, he himself was like a half-grown child, quite humble, and said, ”If you don’t want to call me cousin uncle, calling me by my name is fine.”

”Can’t I call you brother?” Little Dengdeng asked, tilting his head.

Jiang Yihong laughed heartily, ”It’s a bit chaotic in terms of rank, but privately you can.”

”Great!” Little Dengdeng smiled with bent eyes upon hearing this, his cousin uncle brother was nice, he liked him.

”Then you haven’t told me your full name.” Jiang Yihong asked with a smile, with a hint of testing Little Dengdeng, since most kids this age can’t say their full names.

Little Dengdeng proudly said, ”My full name is Bai Chengtai!”

Jiang Yihong froze, Bai Chengtai... shouldn’t it be Jiang Chengtai?

He seemed to remember his older brother saying he had become part of the Fang Family, upon thinking this through, he understood why the child was surnamed Bai. Jiang Yihong wasn’t as rigid as Elder Jiang Ge, once he understood, he felt it was okay, given his older brother was alone then, joining the Bai Family provided him with family care and concern, his brother wouldn’t be lonely anymore.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Xuexiang led Elder Jiang Ge in from outside, Little Dengdeng’s voice was not low, Elder Jiang Ge and Jiang Xuexiang heard it.

Jiang Xuexiang looked nervous, hastily looking at Elder Jiang Ge, fearing he would erupt over this, disrupting the hard-earned relaxed relations. Plus, Elder Jiang Ge’s health couldn’t withstand another bout of anger, he worried his father might have a stroke in frustration.

Bai Ruozhu also felt tense, not because she feared Elder Jiang Ge, but she didn’t want to ruin the day by falling out with him, didn’t want to make things difficult for Jiang Zhihe and Yu Chenghua.

She glanced at Elder Jiang Ge, seeing the painful and conflicted expression on his weathered face, but quickly suppressing all expressions, pretending he heard nothing, and having Jiang Xuexiang assist him to the main seat in the Main Hall.

Bai Ruozhu was shocked, had Elder Jiang Ge’s personality changed due to illness? Previously, he would have exploded, questioning how a Jiang grandson could carry the Bai surname.

She saw Jiang Yichun, also surprised, exchanging glances, perhaps Elder Jiang Ge was considering the bigger picture, planning to address it after welcoming Jiang Zhihe back home?

Before thinking further, the steward arrived joyfully announcing, ”Old Master, Sir, Madam, Second Miss is back home!”

Elder Jiang Ge smiled, ”Go and welcome her.”

His legs were inconvenient, and it wasn’t appropriate for him to welcome her, while the Jiang Family Matron hurriedly curtsied and rushed toward the Main Gate, eager to inquire if the Dou Family had impacted her daughter’s and son-in-law’s relationship.

Bai Ruozhu held Little Dengdeng’s hand, smiled at Jiang Yichun, saying, ”Let’s go welcome them too.”

Jiang Yichun nodded, and Jiang Yihong joined in, saying, ”I’ll go too, with older brother and sister-in-law.”

Jiang Yichun patted his shoulder, ”Let’s go.”

Soon, they met Jiang Zhihe and her husband at the Main Gate, upon seeing her mother, Jiang Zhihe couldn’t help shedding tears, scared during the past days, if not outright pathetically treated.

Seeing her daughter cry, the Jiang Family Matron’s heart raced, yet with her son-in-law present, she couldn’t directly ask, she could only tenderly hand her daughter a handkerchief for her tears.

Bai Ruozhu approached, saying, ”Let’s not stand here, let’s talk inside, Grandpa is waiting for you to pay respects.”

Jiang Zhihe wiped her tears, saying, ”Sister-in-law is right, let’s go quickly.”

Everyone accompanied them to the Main house, they paid respects to Elder Jiang Ge, served tea to Jiang Xuexiang and his wife, then finally sat down to talk.

In no time, Jiang Family’s eldest daughter Jiang Zhiyi also returned, soon, the men continued drinking tea in the Main Hall, while the women retreated to the backyard to talk.

Jiang Yichun stopped Bai Ruozhu, saying, ”I have some errands to run, I’ll sit for a moment then leave, later after lunch, you can take Dengdeng back.”

Bai Ruozhu, concerned about his thinning face, said, ”Okay, but even if you’re busy, you must eat, even if simple, don’t skip meals.”

”All right, I’ll remember.” Usually stern at the Jiang Family, his face now unconsciously showed a smile.

Jiang Yihong, observing, muttered, ”Brother actually smiled, even being nagged by sister-in-law doesn’t bother him, just strange.”

With her acute hearing, Bai Ruozhu naturally caught it, glaring at Jiang Yihong, saying, ”You little one don’t understand, this isn’t nagging but the way of marriage, you’ll understand when you’re married.”

The women laughed, Jiang Zhiyi covered her mouth, saying, ”Mother should start looking for a wife for Hong brother.”

The group laughed, Jiang Yihong blushed, ran off embarrassed, resolving not to secretly speak ill of his sister-in-law anymore, for her hearing was too sharp.

Afterward, everything went smoothly, Bai Ruozhu and Dengdeng had a good time at the Jiang Family, everyone got along harmoniously, and the Dou Family, who caused vague concerns, never appeared, seemingly cowed by the emperor’s authoritative words.

After lunch, Bai Ruozhu bade farewell with Dengdeng, but before they left the Main Gate, the steward caught up saying, ”Young Mistress, please come quickly, the Old Master has fainted!”

For some reason, Bai Ruozhu suddenly recalled Elder Jiang Ge’s previous expression, both painful and conflicted, wondering what was in his mind — regret or anger?

”Okay, please lead the way.” Bai Ruozhu said.

To hasten, she carried Dengdeng, quickly following the steward, soon arriving at the secluded courtyard where Elder Jiang Ge resided.
