Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1604: Chapter 1604: Blood Spills in the Main Hall

”Look at what the Grand Princess said. In this Capital, it’s not unheard of for engagements to be broken or for women to be cast aside by their husbands for misconduct. Moreover, Dou Yun hasn’t even been engaged to anyone, yet if she seeks death, others have to be responsible? Where’s the logic in that?” Bai Ruozhu scoffed disdainfully.

The Emperor frowned slightly. He had no fondness for Dou Yun, and if it weren’t for the Grand Princess’s excessive antics, he wouldn’t have bothered with this mess.

Thinking of this, he glared fiercely at Fan Li. If it hadn’t been for Fan Li, the officer of the capital failing to deal with the matter properly, would it have caused him, the Emperor, so much trouble?

Fan Li was chilled to the bone by the Emperor’s gaze, growing anxious. It seemed he couldn’t avoid the matter any longer.

He stepped forward and bowed, saying, ”For matters of marriage, one can simply have an official matchmaker arrange it. But Miss Dou repeatedly seeking death is truly inappropriate. Now, that the Dou couple has been released from prison, they should return home and lead their lives properly, managing their affairs and stop troubling the Jiang Residence.”

The Grand Princess glared fiercely at Fan Li, causing him to shrink his neck hurriedly, and say, ”Grand Princess admires Miss Dou’s filial piety, but if Miss Dou truly cares for her parents, she should serve them well, teach her younger brother, and refrain from impulsive actions.”

The Emperor, hearing this, also spoke up: ”Muyu’s words hold some truth. Dou Yun has indeed caused too much commotion, and the Dou couple should take their daughter home to reflect properly. I don’t want to hear news of your family’s disturbances anymore. Learn to lead your life independently.”

The Emperor’s tone grew heavier towards the end, intending to speak up for herself, Dou Yun was too frightened to say more.

”Your Majesty, my daughter’s character is fierce, if she returns, then I’m afraid...” Dou Ning mustered courage to speak, though he hesitated at the end.

The Emperor glanced at him coldly, ”Are you threatening me? If she truly wants to die, no one can stop her! I’m making it clear here today, if she goes to Yu Residence to cause trouble again, or endlessly entangles with Yu Chenghua, then Fan Li shall see to the punishment.”

Fan Li hurriedly said, ”Yes, Your Majesty, I accept the decree.”

Dou Yun looked aggrievedly at Yu Chenghua, but only saw him filled with disgust when he perceived her gaze. Instantly, she felt utterly despairing. Could she still find a husband this way?

Of course, she could definitely get married, but Dou Yun could not look favorably upon ordinary families.

Suddenly, she kowtowed three times to the Emperor again, this time using even more force, causing her forehead to bleed by the time she raised her head.

”This woman is without virtue, and can only prove her integrity through death!” Dou Yun said abruptly, then climbed up and ran towards the pillars of the Main Hall.

The incident happened too quickly for the Dou couple to intervene, their faces turned white with fright. If Dou Yun were to die within the Main Hall, it would surely incur the Emperor’s wrath, which they could not afford.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t expected Dou Yun to have such a breaking courage, and there was no time to stop it. She watched as Dou Yun’s head struck the pillar and bounced back onto the ground, a large bleeding gash on her forehead.

Jiang Zhihe was closest to her and scrambled to her, crying, ”Dou Yun, why did you do this? You weren’t like this before. What’s there to be upset over? Once dead, there’s nothing left, what’s the point in all this fighting?”

Then, the Dou couple rushed over, with Mrs. Dou shoving Jiang Zhihe aside and delivering her a slap. ”You troublemaker! If my Dou Yun dies, it’s because of you!”

The incident happened too suddenly for anyone to expect Dou Yun would dare disrespect the Emperor, and as they came back to their senses, Bai Ruozhu’s face had already darkened.

Who gave Mrs. Dou the right to hit Jiang Zhihe? On what basis does she claim Jiang Zhihe harmed Dou Yun? Who is truly harming whom? Who is persistently clinging and refusing to let go?

”All these years, the Jiang Family has been supporting Dou Ning and you relatives, living beyond their means, relying on Elder Jiang Ge and my uncle’s salary. But what have you done to earn a living? Because of parasites like you, the legitimate sons and daughters of the Jiang Family live in poverty, and Zhihe has suffered many hardships over the years because of you. When we returned to the Capital recently, she didn’t even have a decent set of clothes!” Bai Ruozhu said angrily.

”Later on, your Dou family became greedy, wanting Dou Yun to marry my second brother. When things couldn’t work out, you splashed dirt on Zhihe, intending to ruin her reputation. But fortunately, the heavens showed mercy, allowing her to meet Yu Chenghua, someone who knows warmth and cold. Yet, just as they were about to marry, you come to stir up trouble again. Dou Yun shamelessly insists on marrying Yu Chenghua, even staying at Yu Residence with the Grand Princess’s help. So, ultimately, who has been harming whom all along?”

Bai Ruozhu glared fiercely at the unconscious Dou Yun bleeding from her head, saying coldly, ”For a shameless woman like her, death is well-deserved!”

”How, how dare you say that?” Mrs. Dou cried tearfully, ”Your Majesty, Grand Princess, you must stand up for our family!”

Jiang Zhihe, clutching her face, was somewhat dazed, while Yu Chenghua quickly went to support her, saying, ”Don’t be upset. Some people aren’t deserving of sympathy.”

The Emperor looked at Dou Yun bleeding on her head, his face darkening with anger, ”Dou Yun disgraced her womanly virtues, and seeks death in front of me, toss her directly outside the Palace! I don’t care to repeat what I’ve said, Dou Ning if you transgress again, beware your head!”

Wang Shun hurriedly signaled to the guards, who promptly stepped forward to carry Dou Yun and pull Dou Ning couple away. The Emperor’s words had frightened Dou Ning so much his legs shook, rendering him unable to walk, let alone speak.

However, the Grand Princess looked unwilling, saying to the Emperor, ”Your Majesty, calm down, but shouldn’t this matter be settled somehow?”

The Emperor glanced at her coldly, ”Naturally, this can’t be settled with this. Aunt indulged her guards to draw swords in the streets, nearly clashing with the patrol guards. I hope not to see similar things happen again. Go back and reflect behind closed doors, half-year’s salary deduction, and confinement for a month.”

Bai Ruozhu’s anger was still pent up, feeling the Emperor’s punishment too lenient, yet she understood it was the Emperor’s limit. After all, the Grand Princess’s guards hadn’t truly harmed anyone, and the Grand Princess had been favoring the Dou family without outright illegal actions.

The Emperor then glanced at Fan Li, saying, ”As for the officer of the capital failing to properly handle it, deduct three months of salary, and reflect on how to perform adequately in this position going forward!”

Fan Li shivered, stepped forward, and bowed, ”I accept the decree, Your Majesty.”

The Emperor then looked at Bai Ruozhu, Yu Chenghua, and Jiang Zhihe, his expression still somewhat stern, ”Yu Chenghua, just wed, and you’ve encountered this trouble, I grant you another three days off, go back and spend time with the Jiang Family, don’t let others affect your marital relationship.”

Yu Chenghua’s eyes flashed with gratitude, kneeling to the Emperor, ”Thank you, Your Majesty, for your grace!”
