Chapter 1615: Chapter 1615: Tang Feng Also Has the Surname Tang

The emperor is willing to marry his cousin to you, which is a great honor. Aren’t you showing disrespect to the emperor? Are you perhaps afraid of the Turkic Prince, and therefore dare not marry Princess Diao Yao?

For a moment, many people thought this way. They looked at Tang Feng with regret, disdain, and even disappointment.

Prime Minister Si had always held a high opinion of the young Tang Feng. Despite his young age, he had excellent talents and a better social understanding than Bai Zepei, which was crucial in officialdom. If it weren’t for the fact that he had only one unmarried granddaughter, Si Yihuan, he would’ve wanted Tang Feng as his grandson-in-law.

Unexpectedly, Tang Feng encountered trouble at this critical moment. How could he refuse the emperor at such a time?

Seeing the emperor’s expression growing colder, Jiang Yichun was worried for Tang Feng. Although he wasn’t very familiar with Tang Feng, he knew that Tang Feng had good relations with Bai Zepei and Bai Ruozhu. Moreover, he admired Tang Feng himself, so he spoke up: ”Perhaps the Champion might wish to explain his difficulties to the emperor in private.”

The emperor, seated in the upper position, took a deep breath. He was indeed angry, but he was not a foolish monarch. When it came to marriages, he didn’t have a habit of forcing others’ hands. Despite his anger, he didn’t want to act out now.

Tang Feng’s face slightly changed as he bowed to the emperor, ”Your Majesty, I am ignorant. Please quell your anger.”

”Enough, let’s put this matter aside for now. Does anyone else have anything to report?” The emperor waved his hand wearily.

Prime Minister Si quickly stepped forward to report a disaster in the south, helping to shift the conversation.

After the court session, the ministers left one by one. Those who were usually close to Tang Feng avoided him. Prime Minister Si patted his shoulder and said in a low voice, ”Young man, don’t be impulsive. Go and have a good talk with the emperor.”

After saying this, Prime Minister Si left, and Jiang Yichun approached Tang Feng, saying, ”This doesn’t seem like you. You shouldn’t have refused publicly.”

Tang Feng smiled bitterly, ”If I didn’t refuse, the decree would’ve been issued. Once words are spoken, is there room for regret?”

Jiang Yichun was taken aback by his helpless expression. Did marrying Diao Yao trouble him so much? As he pondered, Tang Feng had already left the Main Hall in haste.

That day, Tang Feng went to see the emperor but didn’t provide a suitable reason. He only said that he was of low status, unworthy of Princess Diao Yao, and not a suitable match. Bai Zepei, serving in the Imperial Study Room, worried for him. After Tang Feng left, he requested the emperor’s permission to leave the palace, wishing to speak with Tang Feng privately.

The emperor rubbed his aching temples and said, ”Go ahead.”

Bai Zepei bowed and left, quickly catching up with the somewhat disheartened Tang Feng, saying, ”I happen to be leaving the palace. Let’s go have a meal at Yingke Lai tonight. I’ll call my younger sister as well.”

Tang Feng nodded, ”Alright.”

Bai Zepei felt a slight tension in his heart. Originally, he thought Tang Feng would refuse, and he was prepared for some persuasion. Unexpectedly, when he mentioned ”younger sister,” Tang Feng agreed immediately.

Suddenly, a worry arose in his heart: Could it be that Tang Feng didn’t want to marry Princess Diao Yao because he had feelings for Ruozhu?

Actually, Tang Feng just felt troubled and wanted a confidant to talk to. His fellow transmigrant Bai Ruozhu was the person who understood him best in this era.

Bai Zepei regained his senses and sent a servant to inform Bai Ruozhu. He and Tang Feng went ahead to Yingke Lai.

Bai Ruozhu had already heard about the morning court’s events at the Female Physicians Institution and worried for Tang Feng. She thought of asking her second brother what was going on with Tang Feng, because the accusation that he feared Saihan was simply impossible. With Tang Feng’s pride, how could he fear Saihan? Besides, Tang Feng also had the Space.

As she pondered, Bai Zepei’s servant came with a message. She quickly informed the people at the Female Physicians Institution and rushed to Yingke Lai.

Upon entering the private room, she saw Tang Feng drinking to himself, furrowing her brows. She stepped forward and snatched his wine cup, saying, ”Does drinking solve the problem?”

Tang Feng looked up and gave her a bitter smile, ”I always thought I was smart and have spent years planning. But coming to the Capital City, many things are not as I thought before. Even I have changed a lot. How could I be so indecisive before?”

His words left the Bai Ruozhu siblings confused. Tang Feng reached out and snatched the wine cup back from Bai Ruozhu, saying, ”Ruozhu, why do you think we came here?”

His familiar tone tightened Bai Zepei’s heart again, as if there was something between Ruozhu and Tang Feng that he didn’t know about, which felt unsettling.

Bai Ruozhu cautiously glanced at her second brother. What Tang Feng referred to by ”we came here” was their transmigration to this era. But to Bai Zepei, it sounded as if they were questioning the purpose of their visit to the Capital City.

Bai Ruozhu secretly breathed a sigh of relief, noticing that her brother didn’t overthink it.

”Tang Feng, this isn’t like you. Even if you don’t want to marry Diao Yao, couldn’t you take a gradual approach?” Bai Ruozhu said.

”A gradual approach? Wait until the marriage is decreed and secretly sabotage it?” Tang Feng chuckled bitterly, ”I don’t want to play tricks on Princess Diao Yao. After all, she is an innocent girl.”

Bai Ruozhu was moved by this. After all, Tang Feng was a modern person like her, valuing human rights.

But why did Tang Yin suddenly want to give Diao Yao to Tang Feng? Was this always the plan?

”Wait!” Bai Ruozhu suddenly widened her eyes, ”You also have the surname Tang. Could it be...”

She only spoke half a sentence, but Bai Zepei, being clever, immediately understood what she was hinting at, and was so shocked that his chopsticks dropped.

Tang Feng’s biological father’s identity was unknown. His mother, the scholar Lianluo, was very famous in Jiangnan, but the only blemish was having a son out of wedlock. How could a woman like Lianluo break the rules and become pregnant without marriage?

Unless the other person was the emperor, she couldn’t refuse!

Historically, when an emperor visited Jiangnan, didn’t they love to court Jiangnan’s talented women, just like Xia Yuhe by the Daming Lake back then?

And Tang Feng also had the surname Tang, which was too obvious. Why hadn’t she realized it earlier?

Being named Tang naturally meant he couldn’t marry Diao Yao. Nominally, Diao Yao would be his cousin, but in reality, Diao Yao was his half-sister. Perhaps Tang Feng had his sources and already knew Diao Yao’s real identity, which made it even more impossible to accept her.

Tang Feng was not like that deviant Saihan!

At this moment, Tang Feng’s expression was also quite complicated. He was first surprised, then tried to conceal it, ultimately showing a look of helplessness. He could only sigh and softly affirm.

”Tang Feng, why did you come to the Capital City and take the Champion’s title? To reclaim the position that should belong to you? Or to prove something?” Bai Ruozhu suddenly asked seriously.
