Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1610: Chapter 1610: Minister Jiang is too Dominant

If the person spreading the rumors knew she was meeting with Sangta, the prince from the Barbarian Tribe, it would not just be a matter of illicit relations with others, but a more severe case of collusion and treason.

Just uncertain who informed Hao Baishuang—it is said Liu Fei, who is still under house arrest in the Palace—but Bai Ruozhu feels it’s unlikely.

Thinking further, the only other possibility could be Du Zhongshu, who is also in the Commerce Association.

”No worries, rumors stop with wise individuals. Even if the rumors are vivid and detailed, they will eventually fall apart on their own,” Bai Ruozhu said with great composure.

She indeed met Sangta, but internally she was unperturbed, so she felt no embarrassment.

”It does have an impact on your reputation. Do you want to do something about it?” Tian Fang asked worriedly.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”I’m too lazy to explain. The more you explain, the worse it gets; not explaining is better since explaining draws more attention. Let them be; it will fade away over time.”

But would the anger that Achun had just subdued spill out again because of this?

As slight worry crept into her heart, a female physician hurriedly walked in from outside, expressing concern, ”Lord Bai, you should go have a look; Lord Jiang came to fetch you but was stopped by Hao Baishuang, surely speaking ill of you.”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched; someone like Hao Baishuang cannot rise too high, as her IQ is not great.

Even if she wanted to kick Bai Ruozhu when she’s down, it’s unnecessary to seed discord with her husband. Which man likes to hear others say, ”Your woman is cuckolding you”?

”Why is Hao Baishuang so shameless? Isn’t she trying to make Lord Jiang embarrassed and affect your marital relationship?” Jin Yao-niang expressed concern. Being the oldest in the Female Physicians Institution and having been married, she had some experience in marital affairs, but unfortunately, her husband died early, and they didn’t have children.

Jin Yao-niang learned some medical skills while taking care of her husband, and later, due to regret, she fiercely pursued her studies, eventually becoming a female Imperial Doctor.

”Let’s tear Hao Baishuang’s deceitful mouth so she won’t gossip behind people’s backs!” Li Cuicui said, ready to go out, but Bai Ruozhu grabbed her, advising, ”Don’t be impulsive; after all, she has been titled Deputy Envoy. You offend her, and it’s insubordination; you’ll be punished.”

”Punish then! I’ve been discontent with her for a long time!” Li Cuicui stomped her foot, and others joined in agreement.

Bai Ruozhu felt warmed. These female physicians were angry because of her and didn’t care about being punished to defend her. How could she not be touched?

”You can’t go scold her, but I certainly can. First, I’m her superior; second, I’m the victim she’s talking about.” Bai Ruozhu winked at everyone, hinting they should stay to watch the drama.

The female physicians became excited; they had long wanted to confront Hao Baishuang. Even though they couldn’t personally tear into Hao Baishuang now, watching from the sidelines would still be gratifying.

Thus, Bai Ruozhu led ten female physicians out grandly into the yard.

Sure enough, Hao Baishuang was blocking Jiang Yichun’s path, speaking sharply. Bai Ruozhu immediately understood that she had underestimated Hao Baishuang. The aim wasn’t merely to besmirch her reputation but to provoke Jiang Yichun, expecting him to vent his anger on Bai Ruozhu.

However, Bai Ruozhu still smiled, as it wasn’t smart after all. To anger Jiang Yichun is foolish indeed; even she, as Jiang’s wife, wouldn’t easily dare provoke that man.

”If you don’t want to die in the Palace, get away!” Indeed, Jiang Yichun was impatient, and his voice carried a murderous intent.

Behind them, Tian Fang murmured, ”Wow, Lord Bai, your husband is imposing!”

Bai Ruozhu chuckled softly and proceeded, ”Deputy Envoy Hao, what’s going on here? How did you make my husband displeased?”

Hao Baishuang was so intimidated by Jiang Yichun’s presence that she almost believed she would be killed by the man before her.

Regaining her composure, she hurried to remain calm and said, ”I was merely speaking some truths, fearing Lord Jiang’s embarrassment. Lord Bai should reflect more on herself.”

Bai Ruozhu glared, ”Reflect on what? No wonder things felt odd today—Deputy Envoy Hao has been spreading rumors about me. Is kicking one’s superior off the stage and spreading some rumors enough?”

”Deputy Envoy Hao, you are too despicable; if you envy Chief Bai for her medical skills, study hard! If you can’t surpass her in medical skills, don’t resort to petty tricks. With such a person as Deputy Envoy, how can we respect you?” Tian Fang promptly shouted.

”Indeed, Lord Bai and Lord Jiang have a deep bond. If it were as Deputy Envoy Hao’s words, how could Lord Jiang come to personally fetch Lord Bai home?” Jin Yao-niang added.

Jiang Yichun initially harbored anger, not due to Sangta’s affair but because he didn’t expect Bai Ruozhu to be so stressed at the Female Physicians Institution. How could he be pleased? Seeing now that the female physicians were siding with Bai Ruozhu, even seemingly ready to fight for her, his mood improved.

His wife indeed had such personal charm. How could he not feel proud?

”My wife and I share a good bond; those spinsters forever unable to marry, will they be jealous? Words can spread easily; this Palace isn’t a Vegetable Market, not a place for gossip and spreading rumors. Doesn’t anyone know what the Department of Precautionary Punishment does?” Jiang Yichun lazily said, reaching out to wrap his arm around Bai Ruozhu’s shoulder.

This gesture was exceptionally bold for this era. Everyone was almost dumbstruck, but soon the female physicians’ eyes shone brightly. Such a masterful Lord Jiang is so manly; their Lord Bai has indeed married a good husband!

Meanwhile, the Imperial Doctors watching the commotion hastily withdrew their gazes, and many hurriedly left.

The Palace forbids stirring up discord and spreading rumors. They didn’t want to be caught by the Department of Precautionary Punishment either. Jiang Yichun’s words were a reminder that for quite some time, no one dared spread this issue further.

Naturally, Jiang Yichun’s stance mainly rendered the rumor entirely uncredible. If Bai Ruozhu truly cuckolded Jiang Yichun, could their relationship be this good?

Bai Ruozhu’s focus was on Jiang Yichun’s sharp tongue; she hadn’t heard him speak like this for a while. It felt quite comforting, especially since he was addressing her disliked person.

With a grin, she replied, ”Is the spinster my husband refers to Deputy Envoy Hao? Nevertheless, she doesn’t understand Palace rules and has offended you. Don’t fuss over it; I’ll educate my subordinate myself later.”

”What did you say? Aren’t you all overdoing it!” Hao Baishuang’s face turned pale with anger. ”Many heard Lord Jiang and your paramour quarreling that day; fire cannot be wrapped in paper, I’m waiting for your disgrace!”

”Whether I’ll disgrace myself isn’t certain, but I know you ought to be punished now,” Bai Ruozhu said coldly.
