The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 97: Chapter 97 A True Man Should Be Like This_1

Hugo Combs fell silent.

Throughout the entire class reunion, he seemed quite out of sorts, and even the flattery of others failed to put a smile on his face.

The spotlight had been stolen by Carson Flores!

As soon as Samantha Tate played the video, the brightest stars of the reunion naturally became Carson Flores and Samantha Tate, a pair composed of a dominant male and the class flower—rich, beautiful, and popular, they were naturally the envy and the focus of adulation.

Hugo Combs knew clearly that no matter how much he boasted, he couldn’t outshine Carson Flores. In fact, he might even end up looking like a clown.

Fletcher Reid noticed the silent Hugo Combs, walked over, patted his shoulder, and advised, ”Let it be. Why pine for one flower when there are plenty of flowers out there? Carson Flores is too strong; we just can’t compare. Lighten up.”

Hugo Combs scoffed: ”In life, what matters are money and power; who cares about being a bit better at fighting? There are no wolves in the city.”

Fletcher Reid naturally understood Hugo’s psyche and said with a smile, ”Samantha Tate comes from a well-off family, and she’s not strapped for cash... speaking of which, I’ve heard you’ve been very busy with work lately.”

Hugo Combs grunted: ”Busy auditing businesses, overseeing corrections; the group leader is only in a temporary position and hardly manages anything, so I’m the one doing almost everything. It is quite busy indeed.”

Fletcher Reid chuckled softly, lowering his voice: ”Then you’re practically the boss. Those companies, to get through the audit, they all have to have a chat with you, right?”

A sense of pride flickered in Hugo Combs’ eyes—the power to strangle businesses was an exhilarating feeling of actual authority.

Every day, business owners would queue up to see him, offering meals, gifts, and he was too overwhelmed to accept all the money that came his way. After all, many businesses, when taken seriously, really did need to make rectifications, but even those that didn’t could be let off the hook, prompting these business owners to often choose bribery for a smooth pass.

If he wanted to make life difficult for any business, it was just a matter of a few words: ”Not up to standard, shut down for rectifications,” and as for the deadline, he was the one who had the final say.

Shutting down for rectification could be fatal for a business—who would dare to disobey?

In recent times, Hugo Combs had tasted the benefits that power brought him; he was indeed riding high, even seeming to breeze along as he walked.

Watching how Samantha Tate protected Carson Flores, Hugo Combs felt a mix of envy, jealousy, and hatred. He had already given up any hope of pursuing her, of marrying her, for even if he did, thinking back on this day would be as repulsive as swallowing a fly. But then again, when would there be a chance to sleep with Samantha Tate?

Carson Flores, let’s see how proud you are once I cuck you!

Perhaps it was the video that had rendered everyone speechless, or perhaps it was Hugo Combs’ leading by example in silence; throughout the whole reunion, no one blatantly targeted Carson Flores, and the event concluded without incident.

People said their goodbyes at the entrance. Carson Flores went to Samantha Tate’s car, and seeing this scene, Hugo Combs sneered, ”Can’t even afford his own ride and sits in a woman’s car; that’s quite the sweet life to live!”

Many classmates heard this, their feelings complex.

Even if it was living off a woman, Carson Flores had a commanding grip on that life; didn’t you see how obedient Samantha Tate was to him?

They might sound sour, but in truth, they were genuinely envious.

This man had truly made it; it was far better than those who chased tirelessly after women, giving flowers and dining, desperately pursuing love.

This was what living life was about for Carson Flores.

That’s how a real man should be!

...

”To end so calmly, this is really beyond my expectations,” Carson Flores said, sitting in the passenger seat, glancing at the people behind, and remarked, ”You were well-prepared today, weren’t you, with one thing after another...”

Samantha Tate smiled and said, ”Absolutely, did you see how Hugo Combs didn’t say much the whole night? It’s clear it was very effective.”

Carson Flores laughed: ”You’re completely stabbing at the heart.”

Samantha Tate humphed: ”I’m telling them not to waste their efforts in vain, or else everyone ends up embarrassed. I’m doing them a favor, too. Where do you live? I’ll drop you off.”

Carson Flores casually answered, ”It’s out of your way; you can head home, and I’ll take a cab later.”

Samantha Tate blinked: ”It’s no trouble at all. I have time; I’ll take you back, and while I’m at it, I can get to know the area better.”

Get to know the area better?

Longteng Road, Listening Rain Studio, your sister’s place; you know it all too well!

Carson Flores flatly refused: ”Wishful thinking. If I really told you, and later when I bring another woman home, and you show up, wouldn’t that be awkward?”

Samantha Tate pouted. This man, was his heart made of stone?

Such a straight man!

Humph!

Just as Samantha Tate was contemplating how to pry Carson Flores’ lips open and get him to reveal his address, a black van caught up from behind and slammed into the rear of their car at breakneck speed.

”Thud!”

Both Samantha Tate and Carson Flores staggered as the car veered towards the curb, but Carson Flores stretched out his hand and steadily grabbed the steering wheel.

”Slow down.”

The car pulled over, and the offending vehicle behind also slid up, stopping in front of the Porsche.

”How does that person even drive?”

Samantha Tate complained, ready to get out, but Carson Flores grabbed her hand, eyes fixed on a man getting out of the car up front: ”You stay in the car; I’ll go check it out.”

Samantha Tate obediently agreed, ”Okay.”

Carson Flores exited the vehicle, and at the same time, the van’s rear door opened, and three men stepped out.

Carson Flores scanned the four muscular men and his eyes narrowed.

They were coming for him?
