Shirley Miller concluded her presentation, summarizing, “For the company to develop and break through the bottleneck, investing in new industries and finding new profit sources is absolutely necessary.

I hope everyone can support this investment.”

Shareholder Alexis Vasquez chuckled, “Acquiring the Seacoast Pharmaceutical Company is going to cost a pretty penny.

Our company’s books don’t have that kind of funds, and taking a loan would be a huge risk.”

Shareholder Rusty Schneider echoed, “Right, it’s got to be at least two hundred million in loans, which would put a huge burden on the company.

Our current business is growing steadily; why the rush?

If we overreach, we’re going to end up in trouble.”

The room burst into laughter, the sound light and frivolous.

Shirley Miller’s face remained cold, her mood indignant.

A group of short-sighted shareholders, more trouble than they’re worth—can such an enterprise really have a future?

Can she truly persevere?

Alexis Vasquez turned to say, “Mr.

Baker, what do you think?

We’ll follow your lead.”

Shirley Miller turned her head, her gaze falling on Martin Baker, who sat there with the calm smile of an old fox.

She held no hope for the outcome of this meeting.

Martin Baker always played the devil’s advocate against her, opposing for the sake of opposition.

Once he voiced his dissent, the matter would be settled, wouldn’t it?

The words Carson Flores said last night resurfaced in her mind, and for a moment, Shirley Miller felt drained, her spirits ashened.

Martin Baker, in his fifties, slightly portly with a constantly smiling face, appeared very affable.

But those who knew him were aware that he was a ruthless character who wouldn’t spit out the bones of his prey.

If you were fooled by his appearance, you’d likely find yourself sold off and still counting the money for him.

Martin Baker spoke in an even tone, “Ms.

Miller, I have a few questions.”

Defeated in her heart but maintaining composure on the surface, Shirley Miller replied, “Go ahead.”

Martin Baker asked with a smile, “Are we confident about the acquisition of Seacoast Pharmaceutical Company?”

Shirley Miller confidently answered, “I’ve spoken with their chairman.

As long as we’re united, we can sign the contract at any time.

The price is around two hundred million, with not much fluctuation.”

Martin Baker nodded, then continued, “How much do we need to borrow?”

Shirley Miller had already mentioned these details earlier, but she had no choice but to repeat herself, “Initially, we can reallocate some working capital from the company to support this.

We are just short of the purchase money, so we need a loan of two hundred million.”

Martin Baker smiled, “As for the loan, have we secured it?”

Shirley Miller nodded, “I’ve spoken with several banks.

A loan of two hundred million won’t be a problem.”

Martin Baker nodded and with a smile, said, “The company does need to keep expanding to grow, and I can support you, but taking out a loan of two hundred million, in addition to reallocating company funds, will have a massive impact.

What if it fails?”

The moment of truth.

Shirley Miller suddenly understood Martin Baker’s intentions—he wanted her to take full responsibility.

If it succeeded, the credit would belong to everyone, profits would be shared, and everyone would rejoice together.

But if it failed, the blame would be solely hers, and she would have to take responsibility.

How would she take responsibility?

Resigning out of guilt and being forced out of the company, that was the only option.

All eyes were fixed on Shirley Miller’s face, most with an air of watching a spectacle and taking pleasure in her predicament, with only a very few filled with worry.

Shirley Miller had earned her position as CEO not only through her capabilities but also her decisiveness.

After only two seconds of hesitation, she said sternly, “If it fails, it means I’m not competent enough to lead the company, and I will resign!”

Martin Baker’s eyes sparkled, and without another word, he raised his hand, “Good, I support Ms.

Miller’s decision!”

Seeing Martin Baker’s support, the rest followed suit and raised their hands in agreement.

Unanimous approval!

After the meeting, shareholder Alexis Vasquez caught up with Martin Baker and asked in a low voice, “Brother Baker, what are you thinking on this matter?”

Martin Baker replied calmly, “She won’t be able to pull it off.”

Alexis Vasquez asked curiously, “Any inside information?”

Martin Baker said indifferently, “There will be someone at the bank who’ll send a message.

After she negotiates with the pharmaceutical company and pays the first installment and signs the contract, she will find that suddenly…

she can’t get the loan.”

Alexis Vasquez’s eyes lit up, “With the contract signed and the first payment made, if she breaches it, not only will the payment be lost, but she’ll also face a hefty penalty.

Without the loan, she’ll have no recourse but to resign.

Brother Baker, you then step up, secure the loan through your own methods, solve the problem, and smoothly ascend to the top, kicking the Miller family out of the game once and for all, killing two birds with one stone.”

Martin Baker smiled lightly, “Resignation was her own offer, and I supported her.

I haven’t dragged the company down, so no one can blame me.”

Alexis Vasquez gave a thumbs up, “Nice move, Brother Baker, you’ve got it all figured out!”

Martin Baker smiled faintly, “Since we’ve expressed our support, let’s get our people to work hard and get that pharmaceutical contract signed quickly.”

Alexis Vasquez laughed, “We’ve already surveyed it before and the negotiation is nearly done.

It was really just a matter of getting our internal consensus.

Now that we’ve got it, if we don’t delay, the contract will be done in three days at most.”

Martin Baker chuckled, “Make it quick, then.”

Alexis Vasquez flattered, “Brother Baker, I’ve always supported you.

You’ve got to remember me when the good times roll.”

Martin Baker said proudly, “Don’t worry, you won’t miss out on the benefits.

With Supreme Sky Corporation backing me, the company will truly thrive in my hands.

As for her, a mere girl…

hmph, she’s still too green!”
