The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Are You Willing?_1

Shirley Miller’s eyes were slightly red, but other than that, her expression seemed quite normal.

Clearly, Shirley Miller had adjusted her emotions during the time Carson Flores went to cook the noodles.

”Let’s eat in the study.”

”Okay!”

The two entered the study and sat down opposite each other at the desk.

Shirley Miller actually hadn’t eaten much that evening either, and after being frightened, she was now extremely hungry. Eating the bowl of hot and spicy noodles, she felt a deliciousness she had never experienced before.

Carson Flores ate quickly, polishing off a large bowl of noodles in no time and taking a big gulp of the soup. He put down his chopsticks, feeling completely satisfied.

Feeling full and content, Carson Flores subconsciously reached for his cigarettes and lighter. Just as he was about to light one, he remembered Shirley Miller sitting opposite him. He paused and put down the lighter.

Shirley Miller said softly, ”Go ahead and smoke, it’s fine.”

”Okay.”

Carson Flores lit a cigarette and took a drag, gently exhaling the smoke. ”Is there really no way out?”

Shirley Miller paused her chopsticks. ”I’ve thought of every possible solution and contacted everyone I could.”

Carson Flores thought for a moment, ”How big is the funding gap now?”

Shirley Miller replied, ”It was only two hundred million short, but now the accounts have been emptied. We also need money to maintain the company’s normal operations. We need at least fifty million for that. In total, we need to take out a loan of at least two hundred and fifty million, and the fifty million must be available within a few days, otherwise, we can’t even pay the employees’ salaries.”

Carson Flores looked at Shirley Miller. ”What do you plan to do?”

Shirley Miller had stayed up all night thinking things through. ”I’ll call a shareholders’ meeting on Monday morning, and I will resign.”

Carson Flores asked, ”I have a video on my phone of Keegan Boyd admitting to acting on Martin Baker’s orders, is it useful?”

Shirley Miller shook her head. ”Martin Baker can deny it, but what’s more important is that it’s not about who’s at fault, it’s about who can solve the company’s problems. Whoever can ensure the company operates normally can be the CEO. If I can’t secure the loans, and the company can’t operate smoothly, the shareholders will blame me for everything. They only care about results, not the process.”

Carson Flores nodded, ”Are you okay with this?”

Shirley Miller sighed, showing vulnerability to Carson Flores for the first time. ”What use is there in not resigning? Martin Baker has the backing of the Supreme Sky Corporation. My own Baker Family might not even be able to compete with him, let alone the Supreme Sky Corporation. I acknowledge my foresight and ability to lead the company to rapid growth. However, I still can’t stand against a whole group of people who drag me down and stab me in the back ...”

Carson Flores took a couple of puffs of his cigarette and spoke softly, ”If someone was willing to loan you the money, would you keep fighting?”

Shirley Miller nodded without hesitation, ”As long as there’s a glimmer of hope, I’ll naturally hold on. I hope one day I can buy out their shares and fully control the Miller Group, no longer restrained at every turn like I am now.”

Having finished his cigarette, Carson Flores stood up. ”Eat well and rest properly. Things have come this far; try to let it go.”

Shirley Miller pursed her lips, her gaze sincere as she looked at Carson Flores, ”Carson Flores, thank you for saving me. If it hadn’t been for you today, my fate would have been terrible.”

Carson Flores replied casually, ”It was nothing, no need to thank me. You’re not stupid; at least you thought to call me. If you didn’t even have that much caution, even if nothing happened today, sooner or later someone would completely take advantage of you.”

Shirley Miller’s cheeks flushed.

Stupid?

Alright, I admit it, I really am a fool.

Watching Carson Flores walk away, Shirley Miller felt a subtle emotion. Although she had been slumped in her chair, she had heard everything that happened around her.

Carson Flores had dealt with four bodyguards, sorted out Keegan Boyd, and even slapped those who had betrayed her.

This man is so domineering!

Having lost her parents early and with an elderly grandfather, Shirley Miller had always struggled alone. She was always the one to endure hardships and carry burdens alone. She shed tears in secret, never receiving this kind of protection from anyone, a security she had never felt before.

The moment she leaned on Carson Flores’s back, Shirley Miller had a feeling that as long as this man was around, even if the sky fell down, he would be able to hold it up!

If he really were her husband, would he protect her like this for the rest of her life?

At the thought, Shirley Miller’s heartbeat quickened.

But in the next instant, thinking about the immense challenges she would have to face, the fleeting affection she felt was like a bucket of ice water poured down on her.

It chilled her to the core.

Shirley Miller’s gaze slowly grew colder.

Her life was destined to be a tragedy; why should she drag anyone else down with her?

Carson Flores was an ex-soldier with no power, no influence, and no background. If she dragged him into this mess, wouldn’t that be harming him?

He had saved her today; she couldn’t repay kindness with ingratitude.

She would fulfill their three-month contract in good faith, fulfill her grandfather’s wishes, give him the Jade Pendant, offer him a sum of money, and then they would part ways forever.

She would walk her own path in life!

She would carry her own burdens!

Shirley Miller bowed her head and devoured her noodles, but tears suddenly began to fall uncontrollably...
