Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 299: Chapter 216: Appointment Announcement: An Astonishing and Glorious Record

”Li Zhaodi, let me tell you one more time. Right now, Dr. Wu Ting from City First Hospital is the best expert we can get.”

Director Duan didn’t want to waste his breath on Li Zhaodi.

Seeing Director Duan’s firm stance, Li Zhaodi’s expression remained skeptical. After a moment’s thought, she still refused.

”No. I don’t trust this junior doctor from City First Hospital. I want you to find a renowned director from the province to operate on my brother!”

”Duan Xingping, if you don’t agree, we’re getting a divorce. Immediately.”

Director Duan took a deep breath. He knew this wasn’t the time to argue. Besides, he realized that inviting Dr. Wu Ting under these circumstances would only cause her unnecessary trouble.

No matter how skilled an expert was, if the patient’s family harbored distrust, it could easily lead to a medical dispute later on.

While Director Duan had great faith in Wu Ting’s skills, he had no confidence in the woman he shared a bed with.

He glanced at Li Rui, who was still receiving emergency treatment, and relented.

”Fine. I can contact Director You Wei of Hepatic Tumor Surgery at Xiao City First People’s Hospital. He’s one of the top surgeons in the province. That should be acceptable, right?”

”However, I can’t guarantee that Director You will be able to come.”

Director Duan had worked with Director You a few times before. He knew that as long as the price was right and Director You was available, there was a good chance he could be persuaded to come.

A short while later, he had negotiated the price with You Wei.

”I’ve already spoken with Director You. Given Li Rui’s current condition, he can come. However, it requires an expert fee of 40,000. If the family agrees, signs the consent, and pays the fee, he can come over to perform the surgery immediately.”

Director Duan added another point.

”Li Zhaodi, I have to remind you of something. The doctor I recommended, Dr. Wu Ting, is actually more skilled at this type of emergency procedure than Director You. What’s more, Dr. Wu is an expert consultant employed by our hospital. Similar to a recent emergency case, I can make some arrangements to properly classify Li Rui’s operation as a teaching surgery.”

”All you’d need to do is sign the relevant agreements and cooperate with the subsequent teaching aspects of the surgery. Our hospital would cover Dr. Wu’s expert fee. We could also waive the related surgical costs for Li Rui. He doesn’t have much in savings, and he’s unemployed right now.”

”You can save money and get better treatment. Why wouldn’t you?”

Director Duan reasoned with her earnestly.

”Most importantly, Dr. Wu is at City First Hospital and can get here in just over ten minutes. But it will take at least two hours before Director You can even begin the surgery. You may not understand the procedure, but you should have enough common sense to know that the sooner the operation starts, the better the recovery will be.”

Director Duan continued to try and recommend Wu Ting.

Hearing this, Li Zhaodi exploded.

”Duan Xingping, and you still claim you aren’t letting a personal grudge affect your professional judgment! You’re just being cheap.”

”What do you mean, Li Rui doesn’t have much in savings? What, you expect my brother to pay for his own surgery?”

”Of course his brother-in-law—you—should be the one to pay for it.”

”I see what this is. You’re just trying to save money on the expert’s fee. It’s only forty thousand! You’re really going to be stingy about that?”

”Duan Xingping, I’ve seen your true colors!”

Li Zhaodi’s anger surged.

”Duan Xingping, don’t try to fob me off with any Tom, Dick, or Harry from City First Hospital. I want that top surgeon from Xiao City, Director You, to be in charge of this surgery.”

”Go pay the fee now and contact Director You to come over immediately.”

”And another thing! After my brother recovers and is discharged, have him move into our other house immediately. He’s already in this state, can’t you show him some compassion? Once he has a house and his injuries heal, he can find a girlfriend, get married...”

Taking a mile after being given an inch, Li Zhaodi unleashed a torrent of demands on Director Duan.

In the emergency department of Yu State Hospital, Dr. Du and the other nurses had never expected to encounter something like this.

They had seen medical disputes before, but those were always between doctors and patients. Never had one involved their own director like this.

”Director Duan... The patient’s condition is deteriorating. If we don’t perform the surgery soon, his life could be in danger...”

Dr. Du walked over and asked quietly, feeling a great deal of sympathy for Director Duan. It was truly unfortunate he had a wife who would go to such extremes for her brother.

Director Duan sighed and looked at the woman before him with disappointment.

With that, he grew completely calm.

’Right now, I am the director of the emergency department,’ he thought, ’and the person before me is simply the patient’s family member. Hospitals have well-established procedures and protocols for preventing medical disputes.’

Director Duan stopped wasting words.

”Li Rui’s next of kin, we have three options available.”

”First, sign the relevant agreements, and the hospital will formally invite Dr. Wu Ting from City First Hospital to be the chief surgeon. This surgery will be classified as a teaching surgery, our hospital will cover the expert’s fee, and the related surgical costs will be waived... The patient will need to cooperate with follow-up visits...”

”Second, sign the relevant agreements to invite Director You from Xiao City First People’s Hospital to be the chief surgeon, pay the associated fees, and we can begin arranging the surgery...”

”Third, the patient’s family can refuse to sign for the surgery and choose to transfer to a higher-level hospital for treatment. However, considering the patient’s current critical condition, a transfer is not recommended...”

After Director Duan finished speaking, he instructed Dr. Du:

”Dr. Du, please finalize the surgical arrangements with the next of kin.”

After all, he was the department director, and Director Duan still commanded a great deal of authority. He was prepared to handle this by the book.

’I see it clearly now,’ Director Duan thought. ’This brother and sister are just a pair of ungrateful wolves. No matter how this turns out, I’m filing for divorce when it’s over.’

’I can’t keep letting this drain me. Life should be spent on people and things that are actually worth it.’
