Chapter 298: Chapter 216: Appointment Announcement: A Stunningly Glorious Resume

The siblings Li Zhaodi and Li Rui had lost their parents at a young age and grew up relying solely on each other.

Li Zhaodi later married Director Duan. He was a doctor at the county hospital, and his parents were retired officials with substantial pensions.

Because of this, Director Duan had always been the one to pay for Li Rui’s university education. After Li Rui graduated, Director Duan even pulled some strings to get his brother-in-law a decent job at a friend’s company.

Director Duan’s family was well-off.

His parents owned a standalone villa in Yu State, which they had received as part of a relocation and demolition settlement. They were living there now.

After he and Li Zhaodi married, they bought a large, single-floor apartment in the city to be their marital home.

Later, they bought another property in a good school district for their child’s education.

Their child still lived with them, so the school district property was, in fact, always vacant.

Li Rui was already twenty-five years old, and Li Zhaodi felt that since the family had an empty property just sitting there, her brother should be allowed to live in it. If her brother had a house, he would be able to get married sooner.

Director Duan, of course, disagreed with giving the house to his brother-in-law. His own parents had bought it for their grandchild.

As a result, the two of them had been arguing frequently over the issue.

In fact, another major argument had erupted just half a month ago.

Li Zhaodi argued that even though Director Duan’s parents had bought the house, he was their only son, so the property would eventually be his anyway.

Li Zhaodi felt that since she had borne Director Duan a child and been married to him for so many years, his house was as good as her house. Therefore, giving the vacant property to her brother was perfectly reasonable.

Besides, Director Duan’s parents had their own pensions and didn’t need their financial support.

And Director Duan was the head of the emergency department at the county hospital, with a stable career and a good salary.

Even if they gave the house to her brother, they could just work hard for another decade or so. When the time came to buy a house and car for their own son, it wasn’t as if they couldn’t afford it.

Li Rui showed up that day as well.

He sided with his sister, accusing his brother-in-law of not shouldering his responsibilities as a man and being too stingy.

Furthermore, Li Rui felt his brother-in-law shouldn’t be arguing with his sister that way. Why was a man arguing with a woman? And with such a terrible attitude.

He even threatened that if Director Duan dared to bully his sister, he would make him pay. He’d go raise hell at the county hospital and see how much face he had left then!

Hearing how this ungrateful wretch, Li Rui, was speaking to him, Director Duan’s temper flared.

Director Duan retorted by criticizing Li Rui’s poor work ethic.

At the mention of this, Li Rui’s own temper flared. He accused his brother-in-law of having ill intentions and deliberately setting him up with such a terrible job.

He claimed he was already working very hard, yet he was still being criticized at the company. On top of that, his brother-in-law had arranged for him to drive his boss home after work.

Li Rui complained that he wasn’t his boss’s personal chauffeur.

Director Duan was speechless. He had kindly gotten Li Rui the job and created an opportunity for him to get on his boss’s good side, only to have it thrown back in his face.

What was most infuriating was that Li Rui was a lost cause. Feeling wronged at the company and taking the easily-gotten job for granted, he didn’t value it at all and ended up physically assaulting his boss.

Now, he had quit his job altogether. He spent his days either at the card hall or out drinking, knowing his sister would support him regardless.

During the argument that day, he had even pointed at Director Duan and boasted that he hadn’t just hit his boss—he wanted to hit his brother-in-law, too.

He genuinely looked like he was about to beat up his brother-in-law, but thankfully, Li Zhaodi and the others held him back.

The more Director Duan thought about it, the more frustrated he grew. He had paid for the kid’s four years of university and all his living expenses.

Then, after graduation, he’d pulled strings to get him a job right away. And Li Rui, far from being grateful, treated the very person who had paid for his education with such contempt.

Some harsh things were said in the heat of the moment that day.

That scoundrel Li Rui simply placed all the blame on Director Duan.

He even blamed his brother-in-law for his girlfriend leaving him.

If his brother-in-law had just given him the vacant house sooner, why would his girlfriend have left?

He also felt that since his sister had sacrificed so much for him, there was nothing wrong with him getting to live in the unused house.

What infuriated Director Duan even more was that Li Rui directly goaded his sister, telling her to divorce her husband if he wouldn’t give up the house.

Seeing her brother looking so aggrieved that day, Li Zhaodi had also said something harsh:

”Duan Xingping, if you won’t give the vacant house to my brother, then you can just keep your house and live by yourself! After we divorce, I’ll at least get a part of the settlement. That way, I can use the assets I get to buy a house for him.”

Director Duan was naturally furious. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t considered helping. He had thought about providing the down payment and letting his brother-in-law work hard to pay off the mortgage himself.

But the attitudes of both Li Rui and Li Zhaodi left him completely disheartened.

What did these siblings take him for? Was he, Duan Xingping, supposed to provide for Li Rui for his entire life? Was he just some tool for his brother-in-law to profit from? Moreover, Li Rui’s attitude was one of entitlement, demanding the vacant house as if it were his right.

Li Rui believed that Duan Xingping’s house was his sister’s property, and whatever belonged to his sister also belonged to him.

He even declared that his sister would only be taking what was rightfully hers!

How could Director Duan possibly tolerate such an attitude?

Originally, when this incident with Li Rui happened today, even though he disliked the man, he was still Li Zhaodi’s blood brother. As his brother-in-law, Director Duan had a responsibility to ensure his well-being.

The best doctor Director Duan could think of was Wu Ting from City First Hospital. He was also the best expert Director Duan had the connections to call upon.

If it weren’t for his personal relationship with Wu Ting, an ordinary person wouldn’t have been able to get him.

He never expected Li Zhaodi to make such baseless accusations, suggesting he had deliberately refused to find a more capable doctor for her brother.
