Chapter 297: Chapter 215: Promoted! Associate Chief Physician

”You will be appointed as an associate chief physician in Emergency Surgery, with a concurrent appointment as an associate chief physician in Hepatobiliary Surgery. In addition, according to City First Hospital’s three-year plan, we will establish a Hepatic Tumor Surgery department centered around your research project and the liver tumor lab. Once all the conditions are met, you will become the chief physician of this department.”

”Wu Ting, this is a huge win for you, and for all of us!”

”This is also a guarantee from Director Huo, Director Cai, and me regarding your career development.”

”It’s also a reward and an assurance for your willingness to stay and build your career at City First Hospital.”

Dean Tang’s words were remarkably direct and sincere.

Such a declaration meant he was, in effect, treating Wu Ting as a trusted confidant.

Although Cai Qi, standing to the side, was the Director of Hepatobiliary Surgery, he was, in fact, merely riding on the coattails of Dean Tang’s grand plan.

However, he stood to gain a great deal as well. The establishment of the Hepatic Tumor Surgery department, spearheaded by Wu Ting, would be a massive boost for his own Hepatobiliary Surgery department in terms of personnel, performance, and future development.

Huo Yun was naturally delighted as well. His greatest wish was to keep Wu Ting at the hospital and see him receive the position he deserved.

Even if Wu Ting later transitioned from an associate chief physician in Emergency Surgery to the head of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Department, he would always be the one Huo Yun had personally sponsored.

And for Dean Tang, this major event was also a high-stakes gamble.

As long as the dust settled and Wu Ting’s liver tumor lab, his research project on primary liver cancer in Hepatitis B patients, and the new Hepatic Tumor Surgery department were all launched successfully...

...then he, as the vice dean who drove it all forward, could use this achievement to be formally promoted to the Dean of Fan City First Hospital.

The four people in the room were truly a community of shared interests, bound together. If one prospered, they all prospered.

Finally, Dean Tang laid all his cards on the table for Wu Ting.

”Wu Ting, you probably already know that many top-tier institutions have extended olive branches to you, especially Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital. But even if they recruited you, the most you could hope for is to start as an associate chief physician in a department. After all, you’re still relatively early in your career, and you would inevitably face pressure and skepticism.”

”But here at City First Hospital, as long as I’m here, and Director Huo and Director Cai are here, you are guaranteed a stable path for growth over the next three to five years, perhaps even into the next dean’s term.”

”At City First Hospital, you will receive the maximum support in terms of resources and policy. We will also support you in pursuing advanced training at higher-level hospitals and fully cooperate with your research project.”

”Wu Ting, I know about your attachment to City First Hospital. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have so decisively rejected Professor Ma Mengchao’s invitation.”

”Let me conclude our conversation today with a few points. First, congratulations on your exceptional promotion to associate chief physician at such a young age. This is truly unprecedented in the history of City First Hospital.”

”Second, I hope that over the next three to five years, you will work hard, in line with our shared vision, to build up City First Hospital’s very own liver tumor lab and Hepatic Tumor Surgery department.”

”Finally, looking to the more distant future, I hope you will carry on the aspirations of Director Huo, Director Cai, and myself. If you can, from vice dean to dean, step by step, help us transform City First Hospital and set it on the path to becoming a top-tier hospital in the province and a first-class comprehensive hospital in the country.”

”You’re different from us. You have that kind of potential and talent!”

Dean Tang’s words came straight from the heart. He himself had been a brilliant, elite doctor in his youth and had faced invitations from better institutions both inside and outside the province, but in the end, he had chosen to stay.

He was a native of Fan City, had built his career at Fan City First Hospital, and was determined to dedicate all his energy to the hospital’s development.

Wu Ting hadn’t expected Dean Tang to speak with him so candidly.

Wu Ting gladly accepted Dean Tang’s earnest expectations; they aligned with the goals for the next stage of his own career.

He was different from other people; he wouldn’t be limited by his institution.

Wu Ting deeply cherished the opportunity to have the full backing of Dean Tang, Director Huo, and Director Cai, as well as the support of doctors in related departments.

’Then I’ll just wait for the official announcement after the next hospital-wide meeting. That’s when my own path to prominence will truly begin.’

After his heart-to-heart talk with Dean Tang and the others, Wu Ting threw himself back into his daily work.

...

...

「Yu State Hospital, Emergency Department.」

Director Duan suddenly received a call from his wife. Her voice on the other end was choked with tears.

”My brother was hit by a tractor today on his way from the card room to a restaurant! The tractor’s front wheel rolled right across his stomach, from the upper left side... Hurry, you have to come now!”

Director Duan’s heart sank. Although he had no fondness for his brother-in-law—in fact, he rather disliked the man—he was still his wife’s only brother.

Director Duan immediately went with the ambulance to the scene of the accident: the entrance of a card room just three kilometers from Yu State Hospital.

Yu State itself wasn’t very large, and soon they had Li Rui loaded into the ambulance.

Staring at the gruesome wound, Director Duan’s expression turned grim. Li Rui’s condition was, in many ways, very similar to Sister Hong’s.

There were superficial abrasions on the skin of his lower left chest wall, and his abdomen was distended. He had tenderness and rebound tenderness in his upper abdomen, with muscle guarding and diminished bowel sounds.

Fortunately, Director Duan had just recently reviewed and studied Wu Ting’s emergency treatment of Sister Hong’s case.

He immediately performed an abdominal puncture on Li Rui.

However, Director Duan’s skill was not as refined as Wu Ting’s. The results were negative several times in a row, but based on percussion and palpation, there had to be internal organ damage.

”Duan Xingping, do you even know what you’re doing?! You keep poking and prodding him!”

His wife, Li Zhaodi, who was accompanying them as family, could no longer bear to watch.

Fortunately, Dr. Du, who was assisting, had personally witnessed Wu Ting perform a puncture. Seeing Director Duan fail to get a positive result, he brought over a thin plastic tube to aid the procedure with a flush and aspiration.

Finally, they got a positive result: a ruptured liver with major hemorrhage, confirmed by the presence of non-clotting blood!

”Preliminary diagnosis: the patient has an abdominal crush injury, ruptured spleen, kidney damage, and massive liver hemorrhage...”

Director Duan already had a basic plan. The surgeons at Yu State Hospital were definitely not equipped to handle this kind of surgery. ’The first person I need to call,’ he thought, ’is Wu Ting!’

However, in this situation, his role was as the Director of the Emergency Department at Yu State Hospital, while Li Zhaodi was the patient’s family. Inviting a specialist from the city to perform the surgery required the family’s consent.

But to Director Duan’s frustration and embarrassment, when he proposed the most ideal candidate—Wu Ting from City First Hospital’s Emergency Department...

...Li Zhaodi immediately rejected his suggestion.

”Duan Xingping, are you even human?!”

”My brother is this badly hurt! It’s one thing that you can’t treat him, but you’re going to recommend some junior doctor from City First Hospital? He’s not even a chief physician! And he’s so young! Are you trying to take advantage of me because you think I don’t know any better?”

”Or is it that you’re doing this on purpose because you don’t want to save my brother?”

”Is it just because I wanted you to let Li Rui live in your parents’ vacant apartment?”

”My brother is in this state, and you’re still being this malicious? Are you using this as an excuse to settle a personal score?”

Li Zhaodi and Director Duan had already argued several times recently about giving his parents’ vacant apartment to Li Rui.

So, Li Zhaodi completely lost it.
