Chapter 259: Chapter 203: Ten Million in Funding! A Designated Key Project of the Department of Medical Sciences

The big shots present were also curious about what choice Wu Ting would ultimately make.

A designated key project from the National Natural Science Foundation could secure at least ten million in funding. However, that still wouldn’t be enough to truly complete the third and fourth phases.

Therefore, Wu Ting still had to secure major funding support from pharmaceutical companies!

...

...

The lecture was scheduled for 2:40 PM, so after a simple meal in the cafeteria, the experts went to get some rest.

Wu Ting followed Shen Siyuan and rested for a while on the lounge chair in her office.

As for Shen Siyuan, she grabbed her notebook full of questions and marched right over to her professor’s hotel, determined to have every single one answered.

Shen Siyuan felt quite aggrieved that her professor was paying so much attention to Wu Ting while seemingly neglecting her.

Seeing that Shen Siyuan had cultivated such a promising ”grand-student,” Ye Xin reluctantly began to answer her questions.

However, even as he answered Shen Siyuan’s questions, he kept probing for information about Wu Ting.

”Is Wu Ting really going to have a public discussion with Professor Lin Ning this afternoon? Have you reviewed the material he prepared?”

”Siyuan, are you saying Wu Ting has only been studying under you for a short while? And he reached this level mainly on his own, just by studying the book list you gave him and keeping up with cutting-edge international journals?”

”Siyuan, you’re saying you never recommended my works or related research papers to him?”

”Siyuan, I think I might have been too coddling with you. This meticulous, hands-on teaching style may have hindered you from discovering your own potential...”

Professor Ye looked at Shen Siyuan and spoke with brutal honesty.

”As for these questions, I think you should take a page out of Wu Ting’s book and figure out how to solve them on your own.”

”I’ll give you a list of relevant journals and leading international experts. You should spend some time looking into them.”

After saying his piece, Professor Ye promptly showed Shen Siyuan the door.

Shen Siyuan stared at the closed door, a sudden thought striking her: ’My professor... he’s changed!’

...

As the time of the lecture drew nearer, everyone involved grew both nervous and excited.

In the lecture hall, the staff were making final adjustments to the equipment. The entire lecture was going to be live-streamed, so everything needed to be thoroughly tested.

In the front row, reserved for special guests, staff began setting out name cards and bottles of mineral water.

As a member of the R&D department at Jin Pharmaceutical Group, Chai Ming was assisting his senior colleagues with various tasks.

This time, Jin Pharmaceutical Group was at the bottom of the totem pole; besides providing funding, they were also tasked with providing the manpower for the event.

Placing the name cards and bottles of water was one of Chai Ming’s responsibilities.

He placed them one by one. As he saw the names—Deng Fujiu, Ye Xin, Chen Bofeng—and noticed they were last-minute additions to the list, Chai Ming grew incredibly excited.

As a bioengineering graduate from Jinggang University, how could he not recognize these illustrious figures?

’I can’t believe they invited so many heavy hitters to this lecture, on top of Professor Lin Ning who was already announced.’

As a Jinggang University alumnus, Chai Ming felt a surge of pride for his alma mater. Of course, he also felt honored to be a part of it all, even if it was just arranging the name cards.

However, when he got to the final guest of honor, Chai Ming thought his eyes were playing tricks on him.

”’Wu Ting? Wu Ting!’”

Chai Ming found it unbelievable. ’Since when is there a leading figure in China’s life sciences field named Wu Ting?’

Of course, it never occurred to him that it could be his old high school classmate. After all, they were worlds apart.

’Could he be a newly appointed leader at Jinggang University Medical College, someone at the vice-president level?’

After all, besides academics, it wasn’t uncommon for government officials to attend such high-profile events.

For instance, aside from Wu Ting, the name Han Yu was also unfamiliar.

Chai Ming gave a slight smile. ’How could I possibly think of my old classmate first? That’s just disrespectful to this important official.’

Chai Ming didn’t dwell on it and carefully placed the name card.

Normally, Chai Ming might have snapped a photo of the name card and posted it in their high school group chat for a laugh. But after what happened at the last reunion, Wu Ting had become a sensitive topic among their classmates.

After all, the relationship between Wu Ting and people like Huang Jiabing and Shou Haibing was rather awkward now, so posting it would just make everyone uncomfortable.

Chai Ming chuckled to himself and got back to work, looking forward to the guest discussion panel later in the lecture.

A short while later, all the preparations were complete.

Students from Jinggang University Medical College began to file in early.

A number of doctors from Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital, who had come on their own initiative, also began to trickle into the lecture hall.

Among them were young doctors Wu Ting was very familiar with: Yan Xi, Wang Nanjin, and Liu Xingye.

Yan Xi knew Wu Ting had been defending his research project all morning, so she didn’t bother him. She habitually glanced around, but there was no sign of him.

’I wonder how that guy’s project defense went.’

Yan Xi was a little worried. After all, Wu Ting’s progress was ridiculously fast. Who ever heard of someone defending a graduate research project so soon after starting it?

After a moment’s thought, Yan Xi snapped a photo and sent Wu Ting a message:

”My dearest, busiest Boss Wu, how did things go on your end? The afternoon lecture is about to start! I’ve already saved you a seat, and thanks to my connections at the hospital, it’s a great one, right up front!”

”I guarantee you’ll get a front-row seat to witness the charisma of the nation’s top experts!”

After messaging Wu Ting, Yan Xi opened the university’s official website, copied the link for the lecture, and posted it in the City First Hospital Research Center’s group chat, tagging @everyone.

She also posted the link to an explainer thread from the Haijin Port forums:

”’A Brief Analysis of the Signature Theories of Each Guest at Jinggang University Medical College’s ’Immunology Showdown’’”

”The lecture starts at 2:40 PM sharp! For anyone interested in immunology theory, don’t miss out!”

Before long, Dr. Ling Ling and Dr. Jin Yan both replied in the group.

”Got it, got it.”

”I’m so jealous of Dr. Yan and Dr. Wu, getting to watch it live as part of the Jinggang University community. @Wu Ting @Yan Xi.”
