Chapter 258: Chapter 203: Ten Million in Funding! Designated Major Project for the Department of Medical Science (Part 2)

Along the way, Shen Xiaofei, Shen Guofeng, Huo Yun, Fu Jinfen, Shen Siyuan, Ma Mengchao, Liu Rong, and others had all given Wu Ting tremendous help!

Their willingness to support Wu Ting so strongly was, in truth, a testament to their passion for medicine. Supporting an outstanding young talent was, in itself, a way of passing on the responsibility and conviction inherent to the medical profession.

Dean Chen’s emotional evaluation resonated with the other experts present.

Only those who had truly worked on the front lines of clinical care, who had witnessed the helplessness and suffering of so many patients with HBV-related primary liver cancer as they faced the cold finality of death, could understand the immense passion and profound respect they all felt for Wu Ting’s research.

After listening to the evaluations from the three experts, Director Han, the foundation’s deputy director who was here on an inspection visit, was also deeply moved.

”On the technical side, the three top experts have already provided their professional evaluations. So, I will comment on Wu Ting’s project from our foundation’s perspective...”

”Our foundation is constantly seeking and evaluating proposals for major projects in the medical sciences. I’ve come to Jinggang University Medical College specifically to advance our work in establishing and funding these flagship projects, and to continue strengthening research that addresses critical national needs and explores the frontiers of global science...”

”Without a doubt, a project from Wu Ting’s team—one so highly praised by the editorial board of *Cell* and the HHMI Research Institute, and one that has earned the unanimous approval of the top scientists here today—is exactly the kind of outstanding project our foundation has been searching for!”

”It’s clear that the project from Wu Ting’s team is built on a solid foundational research direction. It represents an in-depth, systematic, and innovative study in the interdisciplinary field of immunology and oncology, one poised to advance the related disciplines and revolutionize the field of curing HBV-related primary liver cancer!”

”Therefore, I believe this project from Wu Ting’s team is exactly the kind of major, interdisciplinary, and comprehensive undertaking our foundation has been diligently searching for—one that simultaneously addresses scientific frontiers, our nation’s economic, social, and technological development, and the health of our citizens!”

”A project like this both deserves and requires the encouragement and support of our national foundation. We hope the research from Wu Ting’s team will play a leading role and make a valuable contribution to enhancing our nation’s capacity for original innovation in basic research!”

Director Han, truly worthy of his title as the foundation’s deputy director and secretary-general, spoke from a commanding perspective before finally announcing his momentous decision:

”Wu Ting, Professor Shen, once this project is officially concluded, I will personally assist you in completing the ’Recommendation for Major Project Establishment’ application! I will also personally expedite the approval process and secure the subsequent funding for your project!”

Director Han had the authority to make such a final decision. After making this significant promise, he gave Wu Ting an encouraging smile and stated with conviction:

”In summary, my official evaluation of Wu Ting’s project is: Approved!”

Hearing Director Han’s promise, the experts present were all happy for Wu Ting, and also deeply impressed.

Major projects designated by the foundation were notoriously difficult to secure. Even for the heavyweights in the room, it was the first time they had ever seen the foundation’s secretary-general personally give a project leader the green light, help fill out the recommendation, and actively expedite the entire approval and funding process.

’This young man, Wu Ting, is truly remarkable!’

After the four experts had spoken, only Dean Song, the host, was left. As a leader of the graduate school and the university, Dean Song was naturally also honored and proud of Wu Ting’s project.

However, he felt a slight sense of regret, wondering how Wu Ting would carry out the subsequent third and fourth phases of the research, and at which institution.

Dean Song had nothing to add regarding the technical aspects, as Director Han had already covered the big-picture perspective. Thus, his evaluation was simple and direct:

”Wu Ting, congratulations.”

”Your project has passed with the unanimous approval of all the experts!”

[DING! The Host has completed a perfect project defense. Acquired the following entry from Professor Ye Xin: Immunological Theory of Dendritic Cells (Purple). Dendritic cells (DCs) are the most potent, albeit rarest, antigen-presenting cells in the human body. They are capable of establishing a complete immunological defense system.]

[Acquired the following entry from Professor Deng Fujiu: Theory of Natural Killer Cells (Purple). A class of non-specific cells from the lymphocyte lineage. Without prior antigen exposure, they can kill virally infected host cells, making them a key component of the human immune system. They are the basis for implementing cytokine immunotherapy.]

Looking at these entries, Wu Ting was in disbelief. ’Didn’t I just acquire half the entire world of contemporary immunology in one go?’

With his current comprehensive abilities in the field of immunology, Wu Ting was now absolutely world-class!

The project defense concluded perfectly, without a single objection.

Wu Ting thanked the expert panel for their high praise and recognition.

With his project approved and his paper published, all that remained were the final procedures. Before long, Wu Ting would be able to receive his master’s degree!

Seeing Wu Ting obtain his master’s degree so quickly, Shen Siyuan felt a little wistful, in addition to being happy for him. After all, Wu Ting had only been studying under him for a short time, yet he had already completed his master’s program!

After the project defense concluded, everyone began to chat amongst themselves, but the most important thing, of course, was waiting for the highly anticipated lecture that afternoon.
