Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 284: Chapter 211: An Exorbitant Expert Fee

The plan itself was fine; the problem was the chief surgeon’s skill. If Wu Ting could invite a sufficiently qualified expert, the matter would be resolved easily.

”Dr. Wu, you’d better decide quickly. Either you contact an expert immediately, or you raise the money as fast as you can. If this drags on, I’m afraid the patient won’t make it.”

Director Duan reminded him.

After hearing this, Wu Ting knew the most urgent problem was achieving perfect hemostasis for the penetrating liver injury.

Dean Liu and the others were currently using gauze packing. While the immediate results were acceptable, it came with a high risk of complications and couldn’t provide a permanent solution, leaving the risk of re-bleeding.

As for Dean Liu’s proposal—a pincer maneuver combined with a hepatectomy—it was sound in theory. However, this method placed high demands on the Technician, and the overall cost of the procedure was significant. It would be a hefty expense.

Wu Ting possessed top-tier skills within the province for treating liver ruptures; for him, hemostasis was second nature.

Soon, Wu Ting came up with a more suitable plan. Not only would it make Sister Hong’s surgery cheaper, greatly lessening Huang Yuliang’s financial burden, but it was also a method well-suited for promotion in a primary-level hospital like Yu State Hospital.

’Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.’ Wu Ting planned to create, on the spot, an economical and convenient method for liver rupture hemostasis that could later be promoted throughout Yu State Hospital.

Of course, this surgical plan was unorthodox. At a place like City First Hospital or a hospital in the Provincial Capital, it would be unnecessary due to their abundance of medical resources. But in a primary-level hospital, it was a lifeline!

Now that he had a plan, Wu Ting no longer held back.

”Dean Liu, Director Duan, I don’t mean I can just help contact an expert from the province—I mean I can do this surgery myself. I’m very skilled at achieving hemostasis for liver ruptures.”

Wu Ting volunteered himself for the task.

But to his surprise, Dean Liu just frowned and remained silent.

Director Duan, standing to the side, glanced at Dean Liu’s expression before turning to Wu Ting and saying apologetically:

”Dr. Wu, the patient’s condition is very complex. Dean Liu, Director Luo, and I have all assessed it, and the difficulty of this surgery is very high. Therefore... it would be better to invite some experienced, senior experts.”

”I’m well aware that you’re a first-rate surgeon when it comes to tendon sutures, cholecystectomies, and appendectomies, Dr. Wu. But a ruptured liver with massive hemorrhage, involving the common bile duct, hepatic veins... The risks are just too high. I’m sorry, Dr. Wu!”

Director Duan looked a little embarrassed, but there was no way they would let Wu Ting take the lead on this surgery based on his word alone.

Besides, Dean Liu was the one calling the shots today. He didn’t know Wu Ting at all and was naturally skeptical of such a young doctor.

”Wu Ting, why don’t you just help us contact an expert from Xiao City? Aren’t you doing your postgraduate studies at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital? Can you get in touch with an expert from their hepatobiliary surgery department?”

Wu Mu tugged at Wu Ting’s sleeve, afraid his son would act rashly. After all, this was a matter of life and death.

His father’s reminder gave Wu Ting an idea. ’My own words aren’t persuasive enough, but a recommendation from Director Fu or Director Shen would be.’

’I’ll contact Shen Xiaofei and have him recommend me to Dean Liu. Then the problem will be solved.’

At this thought, Wu Ting asked directly:

”Dean Liu, Director Duan, do you happen to know Director Shen Xiaofei from the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital?”

Upon hearing Shen Xiaofei’s name, both Dean Liu and Director Duan immediately nodded.

”Director Shen is the top expert in hepatobiliary surgery in our entire Jin Province, a level even above Director You Wei. His name is legendary to us. But Director Shen isn’t like Director You. His status is far too high; we don’t have the connections to invite someone like him.”

”Don’t tell me you know Director Shen, Dr. Wu? Could you actually get him to come here?”

”If Director Shen could come and perform the surgery himself, then we certainly wouldn’t need Director You Wei.”

Dean Liu’s spirits soared at the thought that Wu Ting might actually be able to get Shen Xiaofei. If he could use this opportunity to build a relationship with Director Shen Xiaofei, and perhaps even establish a partnership later on, then Director You Wei would become completely unnecessary.
