Reborn As An Interstellar Giant Mosquito

He could hear sounds right next to his ear, his rigid exoskeleton indeed began to crack little by little.

Good, keep going!

The grinding method lasted for at least ten minutes.

Finally, just when Jia Yan was about to exhaust his strength, he slowly emerged with a tender, newborn exoskeleton from the old one!

The third molting, successful!

“Good…

although I’m tired, the routine training is essential.

Each molting is a huge progress and the best time for training effects.

I can’t miss this opportunity!”

Without waiting for his strength to recover, Jia Yan controlled his body to crash into the surface of the cobblestones!

Time flew by, and thus seven days passed.

One dark and windy night…

The sky was gloomy, and a breeze blew across a turbid pond, creating ripples on its surface.

This pond, which seemed very peaceful to humans, was actually tumultuous, with countless tiny creatures fighting and dying within!

An Aquatic Chafer quietly concealed itself within its own territory.

The water in this domain was relatively clean, and there were so many creatures in the water that the Aquatic Chafer didn’t need to endure hunger.

It lay quietly at the bottom, waiting for its prey to appear.

Suddenly, an unusual presence appeared before the Aquatic Chafer!

It was a Larva.

But this Larva was different; its enormous body was nearly twice the size of a normal Larva!

Was this still the creature that it ate every day?

The Aquatic Chafer was somewhat stunned, but its naturally combative nature still prepared it to attack.

Even if this Larva was twice the size of a normal one, it couldn’t possibly be a match for it, for the Aquatic Chafer was a natural-born Hunter that could even kill fish of the same size!

The enormous Larva seemed not to have noticed the Aquatic Chafer’s presence, merely gently flicking its unique black body, swimming leisurely through the water.

The Aquatic Chafer made its attack ready, and then…

It burst forth suddenly!

Bubbles appeared in the water, caused by the Aquatic Chafer’s excessively fast attack speed!

“Waiting for you!”

Just as the Aquatic Chafer launched its attack, the enormous Larva in the water suddenly exerted force in its waist and abdomen, shooting forth rapidly!

Plump!

The Aquatic Chafer’s forelimbs and double hooks attacked, hitting nothing but air; annoyed, it turned its head to focus on the quickly departing giant Larva!

In a flash…

It attacked again!

“Come on!

Afraid of you?!”

The giant Larva continued to flick its body, dodging the strike!

Its speed was incredibly fast, almost equal to the Aquatic Chafer’s attack speed.

The Aquatic Chafer’s attack still hit nothing.

This time, without waiting for the Aquatic Chafer to launch a third round of attacks, the giant-bodied Larva flicked its body several times and disappeared into the murky water of the night…

“Truly thrilling!”

Jia Yan, swimming rapidly, carefully controlled his body, feeling incredibly exhilarated.

This Larva body was indeed his; seven days had passed, and he had molted again, bringing him to the early phase of his fourth molting!

This was to be the final molting for the Larva, after which would come the Pupa Transformation and becoming a Mosquito!

Feeling stronger than ever, Jia Yan deliberately provoked the ruler of this water region—his Aquatic Chafer neighbor!

And indeed, the results were good; he controlled his body, easily dodging the Aquatic Chafer’s attacks again and again.

“In a few more days, I will undergo Pupa Transformation, preparing to become a Mosquito…”

“Since I can compete with the Aquatic Chafer, aside from my usual training, I’ll provoke this Aquatic Chafer a few more times in the next few days to enhance my dodging speed!” Jia Yan made a decision that would make his ‘neighbor’ want to cry.

Compared to the second and third moltings, this final molt provided Jia Yan with a robust, iron-like body!

Its shell was pitch black with mottled colors, numerous collision marks clearly visible.

This body was like a specially made Larva exoskeleton.

Ordinary Larvae could hardly develop to Jia Yan’s extent!

Compared to his small-sized kin, the body Jia Yan developed during the final molting was not only twice as big but also not as delicate, appearing instead quite robust, as if very strong.

This was closely connected to his tireless exercise and food replenishment.

“I’m about to become a Mosquito.

After becoming a Mosquito, there will be so many things to do and so many things I can do.

To adapt to the future life, I need to make this body even stronger before that.”

Jia Yan returned to his cozy and safe spot—the small home in the crevice of the cobblestones!

This place, cozy and safe, seemed a bit small now.

Jia Yan controlled his body to hit against the inside; because the space was too small, the movement of his body back and forth felt a bit clumsy.

“It doesn’t matter; this impact isn’t too big.”

Jia Yan continued to hit!

Slap, slap, slap, slap!

With each strike, the last bit of algae on the surface of the pebbles was completely peeled off, restoring that side of the rock to its original condition.

Another night had passed.

Larva had no concept of rest, and apart from Jia Yan occasionally falling into slumber, he spent nearly the whole day training and foraging.

When the first ray of sunlight penetrated the pond,

“Alright!

Time to go out for some fresh air and food, and maybe tease that Aquatic Chafer a bit!”

The enormous larva body in the crevice of the pebbles started to swim; Jia Yan’s larva form had now fully adapted to swimming.

Or rather, compared to an ordinary larva, he was an absolute swimming champion—none had his swimming skills!

The gigantic larva body swam out of the crevice, devouring grayish-white organic matter in the water.

This organic matter looked much smaller now; he had to eat a lot to feel full.

But this also proved how much Jia Yan’s body had grown.

It was like how human children only need one banana to feel full when they’re small, but need ten bananas when they grow up.

“Ugh, why am I thinking of bananas?

Being a larva shouldn’t be this scandalous,” Jia Yan thought about the banana analogy and nearly burst out laughing.

Life as a larva was tough—no one to talk to, no discussions, every time he fell asleep and dreamed, he dreamed of family and school life.

But every time he woke up, that indescribable loneliness would engulf him.

He knew well that he could never go back to those days!

To fend off the loneliness, to keep from going mad, he constantly talked to himself in his mind.

With no one to encourage or cheer him on, he cheered himself on!

A hundred times, a thousand times, ten thousand times!

Otherwise, he couldn’t have endured the tough training.

With no one to chat with, he had to alleviate his loneliness by himself.

His mind buzzed non-stop, all day, every moment, every second!

Only in this way could he remember that he was once human, and not forget that he was different from the larvae around him…

“Ah…

now I finally feel full!”

Devouring the grayish-white organic matter had taken Jia Yan at least ten minutes before he felt a bit of a belly swell.

Next, it was time to tease that neighbor!

Jia Yan gathered his spirits and swam towards the usual haunt of the Aquatic Chafer.

Sure enough, the Aquatic Chafer was lurking at the bottom of the water.

Its body color blended with the mud, indistinguishable to ordinary aquatic creatures.

However, as a being with a human soul, Jia Yan naturally had far superior judgment and easily spotted the Aquatic Chafer.

“Still, I must be extremely careful; I can’t yet contend with its strength.

If I’m not careful and really get caught, I could still die!”

Jia Yan braced himself and swam cautiously towards it.

His body remained in a position to burst away at any moment!

Swoosh!

The Aquatic Chafer clearly didn’t remember the giant larva in front of it and attacked in the same mode and manner as always.

It lunged fiercely!

Those grotesque mandibles slashed before his eyes!

“Flee!” The thought crossed Jia Yan’s mind, and his larva body instantly bolted!

He escaped the attack range.

Plop!

The Aquatic Chafer didn’t stop its attack, eyeing the direction Jia Yan fled, and lunged again, incredibly closing the distance once more!

“I’ll escape again!” Jia Yan pushed his body to the limit, swiftly dodging the Aquatic Chafer’s attack.

Having failed to capture its prey twice in a row, the Aquatic Chafer seemed bewildered, pausing in the water as its compound eyes stared at the slowly departing Jia Yan, letting its body gradually sink to the bottom…

“Heh, looks like you’re stunned!” Jia Yan glanced back at the Aquatic Chafer behind him, emitting a disdainful snicker in his heart.

The once thought immense threat now seemed…

to be part of the past.

With care, the Aquatic Chafer no longer posed much of a threat!

It’s probably impossible for a typical larva to do this, right?

A sense of pride rose in Jia Yan’s heart, but, simultaneously, a sense of loss…

Even the Aquatic Chafer couldn’t do anything to him; it seemed he had fulfilled his last wish in this pond world.

Was it time to leave?…

His emotions were mixed.

“It’s almost time to say goodbye…

to the first world I was reborn into.”

After returning to his nest, Jia Yan stared blankly at his small pebble home.
