Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4017  Negotiation For Buying Time

”Thank you.”

Davis heaved a heavy breath before he sat down. He regained his composure but still looked at the Supreme One with a gaze full of gratitude, ”I canʼt thank you enough, Celestial Transcendent. Whether you saved Clara and took her as a personal disciple to grant her immunity to all forms of inquisition for me or not, I will remember this favor. When things get ugly, I will remember and show you mercy.”

The Celestial Transcendent almost cracked a smile, seemingly amused.

”I guess I should be thankful, but whether youʼre alive or not by that time - you havenʼt lost the light in your eyes.”

The Celestial Transcendent stared at Davisʼs sapphire eyes, ”You have the clearest eyes Iʼve seen among Anarchic Divergents. Iʼve seen cold and ruthless Divergents who will sacrifice anything to get what they want. Iʼve seen Divergents with twisted love abuse their loved ones and sometimes even use them for their benefit. If you hadnʼt told me about Clara, I wouldʼve thought you were one of the latter, but now I know what kind of person you are. Itʼs truly a pity that I have to end my cute discipleʼs brother. Sheʼs going to hate her master for life.”

ʼGuess you havenʼt seen Saintess Lunaria yet…ʼ

Davisʼs lips curled.

He had a better opinion of Saintess Lunaria than himself since her eyes were more kind and pure. She mightʼve killed him, but she admitted that it was a mistake and sincerely apologized for her actions. He was able to forgive her for that, so his opinion of her was still high.

As for the World Master, he still wasnʼt sure about her whole temperament, but as Saintess Lunariaʼs birth mother, he knew she was a similar soul. But the Celestial Transcendent had probably met her but still gave him his opinion that he held the clearest eyes.

Maybe it was a matter of having a clear mission in their mind. After all, he wanted to protect his family no matter what and was solely focused on it, while for the World Master, she may have wanted to do nothing but pursue her cultivation, which was neither good nor bad and could be ardent or dull but still not enough to reach the heights of human emotions.

Davis could tell that the Celestial Transcendent was someone who deeply appreciated relationships with the way he approached people and the rumors he had heard about him. As the strongest, he probably was getting sick of cultivation, or so Davis thought.

”Donʼt worry. Clara likely believes her brother will win, and responding to her faith, I will prove to her in time that her brother isnʼt easy to bully.”

Davis chuckled and wryly smiled, ”But you appeared too fast. I havenʼt been here for even a decade, but youʼre all already hunting me down with the best and biggest forces you people can muster. This is too much. There is no breathing space. I want to complain and take it up to a higher-up, but thereʼs no one supporting me there either. So all I can do is shamelessly ask my biggest foe to take their hands off me in exchange for the lives of the Heavenʼs Warriors Iʼve kidnapped.”

”…”

The Celestial Transcendent joined in hands and rested his chin above the back of his hands, appearing solemn.

The negotiation finally started.

”True. You were right to approach me this way instead of killing them all. I wouldʼve taken you down on this journey in an instant instead of sitting down to talk to you. Thatʼs why I praised you that you have clear eyes, not forgetting what you need to do.”

”However, it is still not enough. If we weigh your value to this universe, their lives donʼt compare to yours. With your life alone, we can avoid hundreds and thousands of calamities that shouldnʼt occur. Iʼm sure if I can end you, they would all be content even in death.”

”…” Davis could barely force a smile.

His heart sank as this was his only card. If the Celestial Transcendent didnʼt come aboard his boat, he was pretty much screwed. Their soul bodies would be destroyed, and the hide and seek would start. His people might be safe now, but if the Celestial Transcendent was serious, it shouldnʼt take long to locate them.

Maybe within a year or even months— they would be caught.

Their karmic defenses could only last against so many attacks.

However, he raised his spirits and changed his forced smile into one of confidence.

”No, you would take this deal. You are not a person who would like to waste lives if they could be saved. Youʼre the only Heavenʼs Warrior I respect the most, but if even you are like the others, similar to the cold-hearted or indifferent Autarch Elluro Coldwing, then I must say I would be disillusioned by what it means to be heroes and savior. Perhaps it might even result in losing my sanity since I wouldnʼt have trust in this universe anymore. Youʼre the only lifeform underneath the heavens that can differentiate between right and wrong.”

”…”

The Celestial Transcendent couldnʼt help but grin, ”Praising me wonʼt get you anywhere. But you are right. I am indeed a person who dislikes to see lives being lost if they could be saved. To you, those Heavenʼs Warriors may be nothing but unbearably blind followers of the heavens who unrelentingly chase you down and ruthlessly assault you. I would say that is wrong since youʼre not inherently evil, but that is merely one wrong compared to the thousands of good deeds they have done to save the people around them.”

”They also have common people around them, their family and friends, who are looking forward to their return after they piously and selflessly vanquish evil. You have ended them after they ambushed and assaulted you- again, which I wonʼt find fault as you merely retaliated, but you must also understand that youʼre killing inherently good people who make this world better. Without all the Heavenʼs Warriors in the past or present, I wouldnʼt have been able to get rid of countless evils like deities who used their worshipers to their benefit. ”

”…”

Davis narrowed his brows. Deities? Was this about faith and the Divine Exalt Stage? He was about to ask, but the Celestial Transcendent continued.
