Chapter 498: Nagato: I Can Die in Peace Now

”Nagato, what do you think of what Kenichi said?”

Konan looked at Kenichi, who was standing on the platform and giving his speech, her eyes slightly dazed.

She tightly clenched her hands, and her breathing became somewhat rapid.

After all, this was the dream she, Yahiko, and Nagato had worked so hard for.

It could be said that the Akatsuki had been founded for the sake of a peaceful Shinobi World.

But Konan had never expected that the dream the Akatsuki had worked so hard for, yet failed to achieve, would actually be realized by Kenichi.

”...Now, even if I die, I don’t care anymore.”

Nagato looked at Kenichi, his eyes slightly moist.

He took a deep breath, pursed his lips, then looked at the bustling crowd below before turning his gaze back to Kenichi.

When he first met Kenichi, Nagato had not paid much attention to him.

After all, Kenichi had only been a rogue ninja from Konoha.

At that time, Kenichi was only an A-rank rogue ninja.

Nagato had accepted Kenichi only out of consideration for Orochimaru.

After all, Orochimaru was a genuine S-rank rogue ninja and had once been a companion of their teacher, Jiraiya.

Because of that, Nagato had a good impression of Orochimaru.

But who would have known that later, it would be Kenichi who delivered such a massive surprise and ultimately even cooperated with him?

No.

It should be said that he was convinced by Kenichi.

Nagato still remembered the dream Kenichi had spoken of, and he also remembered the struggle in his own heart after returning.

In the end, he had decided to give it a try.

In any case, if Kenichi’s idea did not work, he could still continue collecting the Tailed Beasts and bring peace to the Shinobi World through his original plan.

But what he had not expected was that Kenichi really did it.

Kenichi occupied Kirigakure and the Land of Water, then single-handedly defeated the other four Ninja Villages.

Ultimately, in a way Nagato had never expected, Kenichi became the master of the entire Shinobi World.

He also fulfilled what he had promised him.

The current Shinobi World, under Kenichi’s rule, was indeed thriving.

”Nagato, you can’t die. Kenichi said he needs your help in the Ministry of Justice.”

Konan smiled as she spoke, and Nagato also smiled when he heard this.

”Konan, actually, after becoming the Minister of Justice, I discovered that there are so many things to do every day. It’s even more troublesome than when I was the leader of the Akatsuki.”

Nagato mumbled while looking at Kenichi’s figure.

He had never thought before that being the Minister of Justice would be so troublesome.

There were many things to deal with every day, and how to formulate a legal code that met the requirements of fairness and justice was also a problem.

Every day, he had been discussing with his colleagues in the Ministry of Justice how to formulate a legal code.

Kenichi’s requirements were a constitution, a criminal law, and a civil law.

These three main legal provisions had to be formulated as soon as possible, while other laws could be formulated later according to the situation.

Kenichi said that a meeting would be held every year, where everyone would discuss the major and minor affairs of the Land of Flame for that year, and then bring up certain issues for discussion.

Their Ministry of Justice was the same.

They had to revise the laws every year according to the situation, keeping pace with the times so that the law could become more equitable for everyone.

”You’ve been very busy lately, haven’t you?”

Konan looked at Nagato with concern.

However, even though Nagato was busy and tired now, he was happy every day.

That sense of fulfillment had not appeared on Nagato’s face since Yahiko died, and Konan was very happy to see it again.

”Busy, yes, but being busy is good. Let me tell you, Shikaku Nara and Inoichi Yamanaka from the neighboring Procuratorate are so busy every day that they don’t even have time to go home.”

Nagato chuckled, then gestured with his mouth, signaling Konan to look to the other side.

There, Inoichi Yamanaka, Shikaku Nara, Darui, Ebizo, and Onoki were gathered together.

Although it was the founding ceremony, their expressions showed that they had no interest in these matters at all.

After much consideration, Kenichi had decided to gather those who had previously engaged in ANBU and intelligence work to establish a Procuratorate.

It would be responsible for supervising officials and corporate executives.

In general, it would also be responsible for intelligence work within the Land of Flame.

Their workload was heavy, and their authority was not small.

Although it was easy to offend people, ANBU and spy work had always involved offending people.

Because of that, they had also been very busy during this period, working every day on structuring the Procuratorate system, arranging personnel training, and handling other issues.

These matters ultimately had to be reported to Kenichi for review and approval.

So Inoichi and the others were striving to pass everything in one approval.

But with several high-ranking officials from different Ninja Villages gathered together, bickering was naturally unavoidable.

”Konan, how’s your work going?”

Nagato asked his friend.

Speaking of which, he still did not know where Konan was working.

”Me? I’m working in the Ministry of Finance now. Kenichi said my ability is very suitable for printing banknotes, and they are currently having us design an anti-counterfeiting banknote that will be circulated nationwide.”

Konan shrugged.

She was doing well.

There was not much for her to do.

Although she did not know why there were so many documents for her to process, compared to Nagato and the others, Konan felt that her work was very easy.

Nagato nodded, then glanced at Kenichi.

Kenichi wanted to overthrow the old silver currency system and introduce a new currency?

However, this kind of thing should not be difficult for Kenichi.

Nagato was simply a little confused as to why he wanted to do this, since the currency of the Shinobi World was already unified.

Kenichi, however, was unaware of the many thoughts of those behind him.

He had now finished his speech.

With his final sentence, ”...I hereby declare that the Land of Flame is established from today onward!” the Land of Flame’s first Shinobi World military parade also began.

Kenichi stood above with a smile, watching the Ninja Allied Forces pass by one after another.

Then he watched the ordinary army pass by with the same smile.

Finally, the special allied forces composed of ninja passed through, marking the end of this somewhat hasty founding ceremony.

Kenichi rubbed his face, feeling somewhat tired.

His face had almost cramped from smiling all day.

But fortunately, what he needed to do was now done.

The remaining matters could be left to the selected officials.

”Sigh, but those documents are also troublesome. Fortunately, I have Shadow Clones. Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t even have time to do scientific research.”

Kenichi massaged his temples.

The founding ceremony was over, and the matter of the Otsutsuki Clan had been handed over to Black Zetsu.

Kenichi could finally rest for a while.

Then Kenichi saw Madara sitting in his laboratory, looking at his experimental log with interest.

”Oh, isn’t this the Land of Flame’s esteemed Sensei, Amamiya Kenichi?”

Madara stood up, speaking in a sarcastic tone.

Kenichi’s mouth twitched.

He knew why Madara had come to see him.

”Madara, you still want your Rinnegan back?”

Kenichi looked at Madara, then sat opposite him and poured himself a cup of tea.

”I do have that thought.”

Madara narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Kenichi before him.

This man was becoming increasingly calm in front of him.

Was he confident in his own strength?

If he had fully recovered from his injuries, Madara would have truly wanted to fight Kenichi and see what kind of strength this guy possessed now.

Kenichi pouted.

Madara truly would not give up.

Even now, he was still thinking about getting his Rinnegan back.

But did he not know that even with the Rinnegan, he might not be able to win?

After all, Madara was only the reincarnation of the Sage of Six Paths’ son, while the enemy could be an Otsutsuki.

To defeat such an enemy, based on the plot of Naruto, it would probably require the combined efforts of Naruto and Sasuke in the later stages.

Even then, they might not win.

After all, it had taken the Sage of Six Paths’ help to deal with Kaguya.

Speaking of which, he wondered whether the Sage of Six Paths made a move in Boruto.

Kenichi always felt that the Sage of Six Paths staying in the Pure Land had other motives.

Perhaps he was planning to use the power of the Pure Land to fight against the Otsutsuki Clan, since so many powerful ninja souls were preserved in the Pure Land.

This was also why Kenichi did not dare resurrect too many ninja.

He was also worried that if he resurrected too many people, would he be targeted by the Sage of Six Paths?

Kenichi paused, suddenly thinking of a question.

Could Orochimaru being targeted by the Sage of Six Paths be related to his research on Edo Tensei?

If this ninjutsu were used continuously, Orochimaru might truly become immortal.

That would mean Orochimaru’s soul would not go to the Pure Land.

And if Orochimaru spread this ninjutsu, then powerful ninja all did the same, would the Pure Land not only receive weaklings?

How would the Pure Land then become the Sage of Six Paths’ weapon and trump card against the Otsutsuki Clan?

So, was the Sage of Six Paths doing this to warn Orochimaru?

But Kenichi remembered that in the original work, Orochimaru did not seem to encounter such a situation.

However, now the plot of the Shinobi World had been completely messed up by him.

And had the Sage of Six Paths not even come out specifically to warn him and Orochimaru not to delve too deeply into the secrets of the Pure Land?

Thinking about it this way, it really did seem possible.

The Sage of Six Paths, that old schemer.

Compared to Black Zetsu, Kenichi felt that the Sage of Six Paths was the true mastermind.

He might have intentionally allowed Kaguya to be released just to see whether his old mother’s ideas had changed.

If not, she would simply be sealed back again.

When his strength was sufficient in the future, Kenichi would definitely go to the Pure Land and see what that old Sage of Six Paths was plotting.

Then he would pull the Sage of Six Paths out and interrogate him about those miraculous Six Paths ninjutsu, and see how many other hidden treasures that old man had.

”???”

Madara looked at Kenichi, veins almost popping out on his forehead.

This guy was zoning out in front of him?

”Cough, cough, sorry, Madara. But I think the Rinnegan isn’t urgent right now. Besides, your body hasn’t recovered, and getting the Rinnegan back would also affect your body, wouldn’t it?”

Kenichi coughed awkwardly twice.

”And if you resurrected yourself and put the Rinnegan back in, wouldn’t you be afraid of it being taken by the opponent during battle?”

Kenichi had not meant to zone out.

But thinking about Orochimaru’s unusual condition during the ceremony had made his thoughts drift toward the Sage of Six Paths and the Pure Land.

Madara’s face darkened even more.

But after thinking about it, he felt that what Kenichi said seemed to make sense.

He himself had been left half-dead from the previous Edo Tensei.

If he were resurrected with the Rinnegan, would he have enough chakra to support it?

The Rinnegan’s ocular techniques consumed a great deal of chakra.

Why had he given it to Nagato?

It was because Nagato was suitable as a vessel, and the Uzumaki Clan’s physique provided vast chakra reserves.

And what if he was defeated by that Jigen, and Jigen took his Rinnegan?

Then dealing with an even stronger enemy would be even more troublesome.

Madara did not speak.

Although he was arrogant, his current obsession was to complete the Eye of the Moon Plan.

He had schemed for so many years for this.

If he disrupted his own plan for such a matter, it would indeed not be worth it.

However, although he had figured it out, Madara did not say anything.

He simply left.

He planned to go back and research how to deal with that guy named Jigen.

The opponent’s strength was very great, but Madara believed that as long as the opponent was still human, there would always be a way to deal with him.

Kenichi looked at Madara’s figure and could not help shaking his head.

That old guy.

It was clear that Madara was still very unconvinced.

But in martial arts, there was no second best.

If you could not beat someone, then you simply could not beat them.

However, Madara’s performance also made Kenichi realize that he needed to obtain the Rinnegan as soon as possible.

At the same time, he also had to find a way to target Jigen.

The opponent had been hiding for so long without making a move, probably because he was under extreme limitations.

However, the prerequisite was that Black Zetsu had to find Jigen.

But given how long Black Zetsu had been kept in the dark by Jigen, Kenichi felt that finding Jigen might not be easy for him.

Kenichi felt that he should perhaps think of a way to create an instrument that could detect the presence of ninja.

”The engine problem has been mostly solved, but there are still some follow-up preparations to deal with. Once that’s done, I’ll start thinking about this. And the clones are also almost grown...”

Kenichi pinched his brow.

He still had a lot of things to deal with.

But fortunately, the founding ceremony was over.

He could now fully devote himself to scientific research projects.

”Busy. It’s good to be busy.”

Kenichi sighed, then walked into the laboratory and closed the door, knowing he would not be coming out again for a long time.
