Arceus's Pirate Journey

Chapter 436: Chapter 435: Wano Kuni’s Peculiar Carbon Cycle

”Little Pei, I think someone is about to have bad luck.”

Watching Kaidou flying across the sky, Ulti had this intuition because during the time Yamato and the others were out, whenever Kaidou transformed, she and Page One would have bad luck.

This situation eased a bit after Yamato returned home, as she successfully attracted Kaidou’s attention. Since he came back, Ulti and Page One hadn’t encountered Kaidou’s death training again.

However, the previous training left enough shadows that Kaidou syndrome has started to vaguely spread within the Hundred Beast Corps.

”Hey sis, do you think there’s a chance that the unlucky person is me?”

Over the past year, Page One’s way of addressing Ulti had changed significantly, from calling her older sister to calling her old sis and big sis, which naturally made Ulti unhappy.

”Little Pei, you’ve changed. You used to cling to me, but now you don’t even want to call me sister.”

”But old sis, do you think there’s a real sister who steps on her brother every day!”

Ever since he came to the Hundred Beasts, he felt that Ulti had changed. Although the competition inside the Hundred Beasts was fierce, in this current environment, while competition was intense, life safety was assured.

Their training often flirted with the edge of death but never truly endangered their lives. In such circumstances, Ulti’s brother-complex nature began to reveal itself.

Because she wanted to do everything with Page One, and she was a bit thick-skinned, it led to the current situation.

Haxorus is a powerful melee fighter, whose sharp axe teeth have surpassed most famed swords, but in many ways, she’s not as good as Page One’s Garchomp. For example, she can’t fly or burrow.

But this doesn’t matter much to her because as long as Page One can fly, she can ride him, and then she can fly too.

That was her goal in taking care of Page One back in the day, and now it has just been achieved ahead of time.

Under Kaidou’s death teachings, Page One had already mastered flying.

This is somewhat like riding a bike. Although it’s hard work to ride away before learning, once you succeed once and remember that feeling, then it’s no longer a problem afterward.

After mastering flying, he began the second phase, digging holes.

As its name suggests, Garchomp is a land shark. Compared to the sky, the land is Garchomp’s home turf. An adult Garchomp can dig out a cave at great speed underground, and now Page One is training for this ability.

”Hey, you two, stop slacking! There’s still a lot of ground ahead!”

Queen’s urging voice came from behind. Training Page One to dig could not be done on the roof of Ghost Island. Telling him to dig holes was not telling him to demolish buildings, so he had been borrowed by Queen.

He happened to want to cultivate a winter plantation, but now that Wano Kuni’s temperature was starting to drop, the land was hardening, and manual cultivation was slower, so he set his sights on Page One, who was training to dive underground.

The crooked marks on the ground were proof left by Page One’s training. He still had some gaps in mastering the Garchomp’s body and had not yet learned the skill of distinguishing directions underground, which is when Ulti’s role came into play.

Not only was she providing directional guidance with added weight, but she also carried a bag of seeds in her hand. Whether it helps Page One’s training or not is uncertain, but she is truly having fun.

...

As the year-end approaches, the temperature in Wano Kuni also begins to drop. Even the trees in Kuri started turning yellow, not to mention Ringo, which was already covered in snow. However, this year Wano Kuni saw great changes.

In the past, they used to warm up in winter by cutting down trees. But now, Wano Kuni has developed a large amount of farmland and orchards, and the remaining trees are green plants left for the environment and cannot be arbitrarily harvested. So a new kind of Pokemon appeared on the streets of Wano Kuni.

Carkol, the Coal Pokemon, the evolved form of Rolycoly.

Compared to Rolycoly, Carkol can provide more coal, and compared to the more cumbersome Coalossal, Carkol is more agile.

Carkol looks like a small cart transporting coal, with a lot of coal concentrated on its back. When its mouth opens, warm air comes out.

Its whole body is composed of rock, and as a fire and rock attribute Pokemon, Carkol can produce coal within its body. In the Galar Region, people used to live off the coal that fell from Carkol’s body.

The same goes for Wano Kuni now. In this season, Carkol had appeared on the streets, stopping in front of yards that had paid their carbon tax, then shaking their bodies to leave enough coal for them to use before continuing on.

For the people of Wano Kuni, this is the same thing as paying a heating bill in winter. Sufficient job opportunities provided them with extra money, and this small amount was naturally affordable.

Take Kentaro’s family in Kuri, for instance. By now, he had established a new family and had become the owner of a recycling station, as he wished. Watching the Carkol begin to deliver coal all around, Kentaro also started replacing the new chimneys.

When burning coal, it’s important to ventilate houses, a principle that the people of Wano Kuni understand, so their houses all had reserved spots for chimneys.

During this season, even the activity range of the Galar Weezing expanded. Drifting in the air, they purify the air of Wano Kuni, maintaining the air quality here. In winter, the Galar Weezing floating in the sky has become a unique scenery of Wano Kuni.

They do not resist this work, as it is simply like changing to a different restaurant for the Galar Weezing, and the waste gases released after the coal burned by Carkol have always been one of their favorite foods.

Carkol’s coal delivery work continues, with its uniquely structured legs that can rotate like wheels, reaching speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour. The downside is that the legs are relatively short, and the snow in Ringo nearly blocked their path.

So Carkols also started their own path-clearing work, spewing flames from their mouths, which vaporized the snow, quickly revealing the ground below. They then followed the path they cleared to continue their coal delivery work.

The exhaust from Carkol itself and from burning coal became the new food for the Galar Weezing. After eating their fill, the gas produced by the Galar Weezing was turned into chemical agents by Queen, who extracted special perfume materials from it.

These materials were used to make new perfumes, which were then sold through Hundred Beasts Fruit to exchange for money, and the money was used to buy the food needed by the Carkol. This cycle of engineering thus appeared in Wano Kuni.
