Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 445: Chapter 445: A Strange Letter

Yesterday’s sudden intrusion must have made my daughter-in-law feel ashamed.

Now she decided it was best to pretend she hadn’t seen anything and to quickly leave quietly, so as not to make An Hao feel more embarrassed and uncomfortable.

However, she had just taken a few steps when she heard An Hao calling her, ”Mom.”

Zhang Yun stopped, turned her head, and looked at the young couple on the stairs, explaining with a smile, ”I was too careless yesterday. I saw that Qin Jian was dead drunk, and the door wasn’t shut properly, just ajar, so I barged in... Don’t worry, it won’t happen again.”

Seeing her mother-in-law explain so sincerely, An Hao felt very fortunate.

She thanked the heavens for letting her meet Qin Jian and for giving her a good mother-in-law.

...........................

After breakfast, the young couple went upstairs.

An Hao quickly tidied up the room and then changed her clothes, ready to go out for a while.

Today she was going to accompany Qin Jian to visit several leaders’ homes to express their thanks; her mother-in-law had thoughtfully prepared the gifts for them.

At noon, Qin Jian was planning to treat a group of subordinates to a meal.

He wanted to show his gratitude for their help, and also, their unit was soon to be disbanded. Many of the young warriors would be demobilized and return home, and those not demobilized would be sent to different parts of the motherland.

Qin Jian was very attached to his subordinates, so he took the opportunity of his marriage to invite his old comrades to get together.

After everything was ready, Qin Jian and An Hao prepared to leave.

Ning Yibin and Zhang Yun gave them a few instructions and urged them to hurry.

Fortunately, most of the people lived in the military compound; otherwise, leaving almost at ten would really have been too late.

As soon as Qin Jian opened the door, he bumped into his father’s guard, who was also holding a registered letter in his hand.

Upon seeing Qin Jian, he saluted and handed over the registered letter, ”Chief of Staff, your mail. I received it from the guards when I came into the compound to pick up the leader.”

Qin Jian took the letter and glanced at the envelope, which listed only the recipient’s name and address without the sender’s address.

Who would send a letter to his home?

Especially to this military compound address.

After all, he was always at the base; if anyone sent him a mail, it should be to the base! Or, to the Qin Family in the village.

Or could it be, a letter from the Qin Family?

Before the wedding, his mother Zhang Yun wouldn’t allow him to send wedding invitations to the Qin Family, as the child-swapping incident had too great an impact on them.

Thirty years of deception was not something one could just accept or digest easily, and it would be unbearable for anyone.

What Qin Ru Hai and Li Junping did was terribly wrong, and Ning Yibin and his wife couldn’t accept it, but for Qin Jian, those two elders were also the parents who raised him.

Although there was a knot in his heart about it, emotionally, his foster parents had been good to him.

On the wedding day, to avoid any unpleasantness between the two families, Qin Jian didn’t go back to the Qin Family. He planned to visit the Qin Family after three days as part of the wedding traditions and then explain the situation.

Could it be his foster parents were upset he hadn’t returned, so they sent him a letter specifically without their names and address? Were they worried his biological parents would find out, so they deliberately omitted their information?

After thinking it over, Qin Jian felt this was the only possibility.

He subconsciously tried to discern the postmark on the stamp, which was somewhat blurred and unclear. It was not from their region.

It probably wasn’t sent by his foster parents.

”Why don’t you open it and see?” An Hao noticed his daze and gently nudged his arm.

Qin Jian nodded, opened the envelope, and pulled out the letter inside. When he unfolded it, he saw it was blank without a single word, and along with the letter, a dried red maple leaf fell out.
