Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 426: Chapter 426 Discussing the Marriage Proposal

When it came to this matter, Zhang Yun certainly had something to say, ”I wish they could get married tomorrow. But An Hao is still too young. We must wait until she turns twenty before we think about submitting a report for approval of their marriage!”

Hearing this, An Shuchao was relieved. He stood up, opened the wardrobe in the room, and took out a small dark red booklet: ”Look at this, Chief, An Hao is old enough to get married. She turned twenty a few months ago.”

Zhang Yun was taken aback and quickly took the booklet to see for himself, and sure enough! Old An actually changed his daughter’s birth date!

”That’s fantastic. Since that’s the case, it seems we’ve come at the right time today,” said Zhang Yun, beaming with joy. ”Why don’t we set a date for the wedding today? While it’s the New Year holiday, let them get the matter sorted.”

Having said that, he turned his head to look at Ning Yibin.

Now that the household registration had been changed, Ning Yibin nodded in agreement: ”Okay! I agree! Qin Jian will submit a report to the organization to request a marriage! Let’s pick a date and get the wedding arranged!”

”Great! Nothing could be better!” Zhang Yun trembled with excitement. ”In-laws, should you pick the date or should we?”

”I’m easygoing about it,” An Shuchao said.

”In that case, how about I choose the date?”

”Sure. We’ll follow the arrangements of the Chief and the ’Old Sister-in-law,’” An Shuchao agreed heartily.

Qin Jian had thought it would be at least a year or half before he could get married, but suddenly the wedding was on the agenda, and happiness came so swiftly that he couldn’t adapt for the moment.

An Hao, who was equally unable to adapt, must have been the most surprised.

She had just gone to the west room to wake up An Ping, yet when she entered the north room, the topic of conversation seemed a bit off.

Why were they suddenly discussing a wedding?

This took An Hao by complete surprise!

”May I ask whose wedding you are discussing?” An Hao asked as soon as she stepped over the threshold, without even sitting down yet.

”Whose else could it be but yours and Qin Jian’s?” An Shuchao couldn’t stop smiling. ”An Hao, I’ve discussed with your uncle and aunt, and we thought to arrange your wedding with Qin Jian as soon as possible. Since you are on holiday now and the New Year is approaching, why don’t we celebrate with a double blessing?”

An Hao was utterly dumbfounded: ”Dad, aren’t you getting excited a bit early? I’m not even of marriageable age yet. How can we proceed with the wedding?”

An Shuchao handed the household register to An Hao: ”Look here! You are not nineteen anymore. You are twenty now.”

An Hao took the household register and saw that the birth date had indeed been changed: ”Dad, did you go to the police station to change my age?”

”Yes! And it wasn’t easy, let me tell you. That Xiaozhou usually seems alright with me, but he’s so stubborn. When he heard I wanted to change the registration, he thought I was trying to exploit a loophole in the system and refused to change it! I begged and pleaded, sat in front of the police station every day with my stool, and finally, they agreed to change it,” An Shuchao recalled with a shiver.

”Dad, isn’t this exploiting a loophole? But you’re exploiting a legal loophole,” An Hao said.

”If it’s exploiting, then so be it. I, with my low level of ideological awareness, just hope to see you married off soon.” In the entirety of An Hao’s life, An Shuchao had never really thought about what was best for his daughter, but this time, he believed what he was doing was right.

An Hao giggled: ”Dad, I’m happy to be able to marry Qin Jian early, too. But it’s not enough just to change the date in the household registration. I also have to go and change the date in my academic records.”
