Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Military Marriage is Protected!

”Dad, do you think all men are like you? I don’t think Brother Qin is that kind of person!” Speaking of it, An Ping still harbored strong feelings about An Shuchao marrying Bai Xue Mei.

”You little rascal!” An Shuchao picked up his tobacco pipe and thwacked An Ping on the forehead, ”Are you just fixated on that one fault of mine? I am talking about serious matters here.”

Massaging his throbbing forehead, An Ping said, ”Dad, if you’re worried about someone interfering with Brother Qin and my sister’s relationship, then why not let them get married sooner? Military marriages are protected by law! Anyone who dares cause trouble can be sentenced, convicted of the crime of undermining a military marriage!”

”Seems you know quite a lot.” An Shuchao took a couple of drags from his empty tobacco pipe and thought for a moment before saying, ”Do you think I don’t want to? The problem is your sister’s age! Qin Jian is a soldier, I’ve heard him say before, soldiers have to report to the organization to get married. What if the organization sees your sister’s age and doesn’t approve?”

”Then just go ahead and do it!”

”That won’t do! What if something is done, and later they can’t get married? The marriage won’t be protected by law, and wouldn’t your sister be the one at a loss in the end?” This sort of thing was all too common in the village.

The girls in the village all got married at eighteen, still following the practices from the seventies.

Back in the seventies, the marriage law allowed women to get married at eighteen and pick up their marriage certificates from the civil affairs bureau, but now it had changed to twenty.

An Hao had already turned nineteen, but would still have to wait another year to get married.

Who could guarantee that nothing would change within that year?

Even if nothing did change, An Shuchao still wouldn’t feel at ease!

Such an excellent prospective son-in-law, it was like a golden phoenix flying out from the mountain nest!

And now that golden phoenix even had a father who was equivalent to the Jade Emperor, An Shuchao could ensure he always saw Qin Jian as a good son-in-law, but who could ensure that the high-ranking officers in the army would consider his daughter as a future daughter-in-law?

Look at that female soldier today, it seemed she got on quite well with Qin Jian’s mother.

What if her resolve wasn’t firm?

Wouldn’t An Hao end up at a total loss?

”Ah! I have a great idea!” An Ping clapped his thighs, ”Dad, isn’t my sister’s age an issue? Why don’t you simply alter it to make her older? Aren’t you on good terms with Xiaozhou, the police officer in charge of the household registration? Just say you remembered my sister’s birth year and month wrong, and ask him to make the changes, isn’t that simple?”

”Yeah!” An Shuchao’s eyes lit up at the suggestion, ”Your brain sure works well. Like father, like son! It’s a good idea! But I don’t know if Xiaozhou will agree to make the change next week! If I say I got your sister’s birthday wrong, I doubt Xiaozhou would believe me! Not just Xiaozhou, I fear even a fool might not believe it.”

”So what if they don’t believe it? Dad, what are you afraid of? Use the skills you have for persuading through persistence. You must make Xiaozhou change my sister’s birthday. That way, my sister and Brother Qin can get married earlier.” An Ping said proudly, ”Why not change it to the New Year holiday? It’s the perfect time since my sister will have a vacation! It’d be a double celebration!”

”Mmm! Yes! I’ll go find Xiaozhou, I must get him to make the change! As for the reason, well, I really have to think about that.”

............

A week later, Qin Jian was discharged from the hospital and went home.

It was the first time he had ever stayed in a compound reserved for top military commanders, something Qin Jian had never even dreamed of before.

Initially, he had no intention of recuperating here.

But Ning Yibin told him that by now everyone in the military district knew Qin Jian was his son, Ning Yibin. Even if he wanted to avoid any hint of favoritism, where could he possibly go?
