Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1842: Chapter 1844: Hiding the Bad News

In the deep winter, with short days and long nights, time flew by quickly, and before you knew it, the year-end was near. Cheng Su started getting busy because, as the year-end approached, all the business accounts needed settling, and summary meetings and such were all crammed into this last month.

Due to the need for accounting, she spent less time at home with Xiao Qi and had to leave him in the care of her in-laws while she ran around handling business matters.

Qing City’s business was easily managed, but the business in Guangcheng required her to schedule a time before she could go there.

Cheng Su thought, since Qi Taiguo was in Zhu City, should they consider spending the New Year in Guangcheng this year? Perhaps he could find time to have a family reunion dinner or something.

If that were the case, she wouldn’t make a special trip to Guangcheng just for accounting; she could check things when she went over.

Deciding where to spend the New Year required a discussion with her in-laws, so Cheng Su asked them during dinner.

During the grand New Year, they certainly had to spend it back home; it was their ancestral land, and they needed to worship gods and ancestors and such.

Father Qi didn’t mind, saying wherever the family was, that’s where they should spend the New Year. As long as the family was together, what did it matter where they celebrated?

”What do you think?” Father Qi asked Cheng Su.

With the eldest son not home, Cheng Su, as the eldest daughter-in-law, was the backbone of the family, so it was reasonable to ask her.

”We’ve spent the New Year at home for so many years, except the last couple of years in Qing City. Guangcheng is a big city, lively during the New Year, with lanterns everywhere. Dad, how about celebrating there?” Cheng Su expressed her thoughts: ”Taiguo is in Zhu City, and he hasn’t mentioned whether there will be holiday military duties, but even if not, he could have a day or two off and get to Guangcheng, which is close. What do you think?”

Mother Qi initially felt it was inappropriate, but now hearing Cheng Su’s words, she remained silent. She hadn’t seen her son for a year, and naturally, she wanted to; now hearing there was a chance for a family reunion, it was naturally good.

”Sure!” Father Qi had no objections and said, ”If he can take leave, it’s convenient for him to come home.”

Anyway, Cheng Su had a house in Guangcheng, and spending the New Year here as a family would make for a nice reunion.

Cheng Su then looked toward Mother Qi: ”Mom, what do you think?”

”In Guangcheng, what about ancestral worship at home?” Mother Qi was only concerned about this.

”It’s enough to have respect in our hearts. When Qingming comes, we’ll go back to worship then.” Father Qi said, ”Alternatively, we could go back earlier for a quick worship.”

Mother Qi was inclined towards seeing Qi Taiguo, so she said, ”Then you all decide!”

”Since that’s settled, I’ll finalize it with Taiguo!” Cheng Su said.

That evening, she called Qi Taiguo, excitedly telling him about this decision.

Qi Taiguo had just heard some bad news. Over in Africa and the Middle East, there was fighting, and the organization was preparing to send troops for Aid Africa. Unexpectedly, they might have to depart before the New Year ended, and Ning Gang’s intention was to send him too.

With Ning Gang’s order, Qi Taiguo couldn’t say no, especially as such foreign assignments were the quickest way to earn military merits. Ning Gang suggested that he’d be able to accumulate merits, paving the way for a future return to the Guangcheng military district.

This was considered a good opportunity, and Qi Taiguo didn’t want to miss it. What he was doing was indeed meant to climb higher and reunite with family.

The only downside was that fighting during Aid Africa might end badly, potentially risking his life.

”This year, I’m not on holiday duty; it’s perfect timing for you to come to Guangcheng. I’ll use my accrued leave all at once and spend a few days with you.” Qi Taiguo temporarily withheld his Aid Africa news from Cheng Su to keep her from worrying, making it easier to enjoy the New Year, planning to discuss it when they met.

Upon hearing this, Cheng Su was even happier. Nothing brought more joy than a family reunion. Immediately, she and Qi Taiguo finalized the timing and then went on to arrange her own affairs.
