Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1811: Chapter 1813: Complaints

It’s rare for Mother Qi to visit Qing City, so naturally, she won’t forget to visit her paralyzed elder sister.

For poor families, staying in the hospital long-term isn’t very practical, so unless it’s something very serious, the aunt has been brought back home, and the one taking care of her is Liu Wenjing.

Cheng Su has to attend classes and deal with work, so she didn’t go along to visit. When she got home, she heard her mother-in-law complaining incessantly.

”That house is so dark, and there’s a smell in the room. How could anyone get better in that?”

”Lying in bed all day, eating, drinking, and everything else happening there, barely seeing any sunlight. She’s so thin, almost just skin and bones, poor thing.”

Cheng Su watched her wipe her tears silently.

”And that daughter-in-law of hers too, she should at least spend more time with her. Who knows how many days are left for her? Lying there all alone, not even letting the grandson come in, afraid of catching something, it’s so sinful!” Mother Qi continued to curse.

Cheng Su frowned.

Before she could speak, Father Qi spoke first, saying, ”How can Weixia’s wife accompany her all the time? Weixia has to work, she has to take care of two children, manage the household, cook meals, do the laundry—the entire burden of the home falls on her. It’s good enough if she can catch a breath. Besides, after lying there for so long without developing bedsores, she’s already responsible enough. Is she supposed to sit by the bed all day, just staring at her?”

Cheng Su almost applauded her father-in-law; a person who understands and sees things clearly is indeed different.

Mother Qi was somewhat embarrassed to be reprimanded in front of her in-law’s daughter-in-law. She said, ”But there’s still no reason not to let the grandson see her.”

”What if the young child gets scared? Your elder sister can only make some sounds.” Father Qi continued, ”Moreover, didn’t they still see each other at the door?”

Mother Qi was indignant.

”You can’t say they aren’t doing a good job. Given their circumstances, what else can they do? They’re only relying on one person to earn money and support several mouths. Weixia’s wife hasn’t run away, that’s already a testament to her conscience!” Father Qi snorted.

”She wouldn’t dare!” Mother Qi glared.

”Why wouldn’t she dare? Go ask our in-laws; hasn’t it happened with two others in their village? It’s poor, it’s hard, they can’t go on. If someone more selfish thinks for themselves, what’s wrong with running away? After all, once someone runs, they won’t hear what you’re saying behind their back.” Father Qi snorted again.

Father Cheng said, ”I haven’t visited, so I don’t know the details, but listening to our in-laws, it does seem they’ve done their duty. Mother-in-law, who with hair would want to be a beggar? If they had better conditions, they would definitely have everything well taken care of. But with no money, there’s nothing that can be done; you can’t possibly have everything as you’d like.”

Mother Qi was left speechless and flustered by the two. After a long time, she finally said, ”Anyway, my elder sister is just unfortunate.”

Speaking of being unfortunate, it’s true. Widowed young, lost her eldest son early, and now this—indeed, it looks quite bitter from an outsider’s perspective.

But this is also a result of her character. If she saw things more openly, perhaps she wouldn’t be in this state now.

”Everyone has their fate, nothing to complain about. You, when you see Weixia’s wife in the future, don’t put up such a face. She doesn’t owe you anything; just for the sake of making your elder sister’s later days a bit better.” Father Qi sighed.

Mother Qi’s expression changed slightly; she understood what he meant and said, ”I only talk here, I wouldn’t say anything to her face.” Saying that, she started wiping her tears again.

Mother Cheng comforted her and changed the subject.

Cheng Su didn’t listen either, taking Qi Xiaoqi into the room to learn to recognize pictures and words, unwilling to deal with these upsetting matters.
