I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 537: Chapter 536: Jealousy

Beisitian feared that they might truly become estranged as a couple over an invitation, which would be a major sin. This had nothing to do with good or bad intentions. To Luo Xuhua, both she and Luo Xudong were actually outsiders. The real family was Shao Simin and their son.

She understood clearly, there was no need to cause them distress because she originally didn’t care about the invitation issue, so she smiled and asked, ”What brings Brother and Sister-in-law here?”

By deliberately changing the subject, Luo Xuhua’s somber face improved. No matter how disappointed he was, he couldn’t reprimand his wife in front of others. He returned to the topic and asked, ”Does Sitiang know President Peng and Boss Ma?”

In Hong Kong, they usually like to call someone ’Boss,’ at least in the surrounding circles they call Ma Tianlai ’Boss Ma,’ and rarely ’President Ma.’

”I know them.”

”How did Sitiang get to know these two?” Luo Xuhua was purely curious. Beisitian lived a life of going back and forth between two points every day, and she had never set foot in that circle. How did she know them?

”They came to see me for medical treatment,” Beisitian replied.

Luo Xuhua was somewhat surprised. He knew that Beisitian was a doctor, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor at the 232 Military District Hospital, but he didn’t expect those two people to seek medical treatment from Beisitian.

This made him inevitably recall some things he had previously overlooked. He remembered before when he visited the Tian Family, he inadvertently saw a mysterious figure go to the Tian Family. The person was revered by many bosses and had a long waiting list for consultations, and ordinary ailments were not even considered. Additionally, the consultation fee was extraordinarily expensive. Ordinary folks couldn’t afford it, and even someone of his financial capabilities, finding it burdensome to see the doctor several times.

Such a figure seemed to have accompanied the elders from the family, and during a meal, he was at the second table, while Beisitian was at the first!

He thought perhaps it was due to Beisitian’s connection with the Tian Family, but this reasoning didn’t hold water. Even the direct descendants of the second generation of the Tian Family were seated at the second and third tables, and if Beisitian was merely a granddaughter, she might not have been able to attend that dinner at all.

Luo Xuhua considered investigating further, but because he was too busy, he had put it aside and forgotten until this event brought the memory back.

”So that’s how it is. Beisitian, is this considered a private consultation? They must pay a consultation fee.” Luo Xuhua’s words were tinged with a probing undertone.

”Of course they have to pay,” Beisitian said.

Consultation fees must be paid, and the fees differed depending on the ailment Beisitian was treating. Ma Tianlai was charged 1,200, while Peng Baocheng was charged at least 1,800.

Her charges were relatively cheap, though it depended on whom they were compared with. Luo Xuhua referred to Wei Zhongyuan, whose consultation fee started at 2,000, but generally ranged more between 3,000 to 5,000, so many would not seek him out unless in urgent need due to the high costs.

Because it was too expensive.

The Mystic Doctor was not easy to engage as well. To avoid minor issues like fevers and colds constantly causing people to seek his services, the Wei Family’s descendants set the base consultation fee this high. Besides, the Mystic Doctor, when consulting, consumes spirit, which requires many precious herbs to replenish. Currently, some precious herbs aren’t even available for sale regardless of wealth.

Hence, this price wasn’t truthfully considered expensive.

Beisitian only collected consultation fees, and any necessary herbs had to be prepared by the patients themselves.

”I didn’t expect Sitiang to be so remarkable!” Luo Xuhua sincerely praised.

Just as he was speaking, Zhuangzhuang called out, and when Mrs. Qin went out to check, it was Peng Baocheng who had arrived.

”Doctor Bei, I’ve come for the medicine!” Peng Baocheng announced cheerfully before even stepping inside.

The door to the house was open, and those inside could hear clearly. Luo Xuhua’s expression changed slightly, originally thinking Peng Baocheng had been interested in Beisitian, but now he heard him address Beisitian with respect, suggesting he might have guessed wrong?

Peng Baocheng hadn’t anticipated others would be present, and upon seeing Luo Xuhua, he was momentarily taken aback, then remembered their relation, nodding in acknowledgment.

”Mr. Luo is here too.”

Luo Xuhua was somewhat flattered that Peng Baocheng took the initiative to greet him, ”President Peng is here, please have a seat.”

It seemed that Peng Baocheng had not been there for the first time, sitting down in the spot Luo Xuhua had vacated, while Mrs. Qin had already served tea.

Peng Baocheng took the hint, motioning deferentially, ”No need to fuss, I won’t be staying long.”

Relative to Luo Xuhua, he was even more courteous to Mrs. Qin.

”Mom, please help me get the medicine.” Beisitian said.

Without needing further instruction, Mrs. Qin went to fetch it. She knew where Beisitian kept her medicine. She placed two small porcelain bottles on the coffee table.

Peng Baocheng carefully and cautiously stowed the porcelain bottles away.

”This time it’s one bottle a day, to be taken each morning,” Beisitian instructed.

”Understood, Doctor Bei.” Peng Baocheng nodded with a smile. He specifically bought a small funnel. Whenever administering medicine to his wife, he would lift her upper body, slightly tilt her head, and insert the funnel to help her take the medicine.

This was an experience gained from seeking medical consultation over the years. No matter how good the medicine is, it won’t work if it can’t be ingested.

”After finishing this batch of medicine, I will need to check again.”

”Alright, just let me know a time, or give me a call in advance. You know my private number, and when the time comes, I’ll send a car to pick you up!” Peng Baocheng remarked as he stood, preparing to leave after picking up the medicine, having a lot of matters to attend to.

Beisitian nodded, not saying another word, indicating that there was no further instruction to give.

”Doctor Bei, if you ever have some free time, you must come to my house for a meal again. I don’t know if last time’s dishes were to your liking, it was prepared rather hastily.” Peng Baocheng said jovially.

”Thank you, Boss Peng.” Beisitian didn’t explicitly agree, which was essentially a polite refusal.

All Peng Baocheng could do was privately regret. He now believed Ma Tianlai’s words; whether his wife could awaken was pinned on Beisitian.

Although his wife hadn’t shown much change yet, after two or three days of medicine, her complexion improved significantly, no longer appearing sallow. Her skin seemed to have regained moisture and a bit of luster. When he left home today, he noticed his wife’s cheeks had a slight pink hue, and her complexion seemed a lot better.

He had worried that stopping the IV might cause harm to his wife’s body, but it turned out just taking Beisitian’s medicine in the morning and evening had such a significant effect!

Peng Baocheng came in a hurry and left just as quickly, a pace to which Beisitian and Luo Anguo were accustomed, though not so much to which Luo Xuhua and his wife had grown used – not at all!

At the banquet, it couldn’t be entirely manifested because everyone wore metaphorical masks. Returning to real life, Peng Baocheng’s attitude towards Beisitian shocked Luo Xuhua, compelling him to reassess the true nature of their relationship.

He now almost didn’t doubt that if Beisitian were to speak, Peng Baocheng might directly collaborate with him!

Shao Simin at this moment was biting her lower lip, uncertain whether she felt jealousy or admiration. A woman from the countryside, establishing a doctor-patient relationship with such prominent figures, it was imaginable that if Beisitian healed the family member, Peng Baolai would owe Beisitian a favor.
