I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 523: Chapter 522: I Want to Register for Beisitian’s Appointment

Having learned the whole story, Luo Xudong decided not to tolerate Qiao Xianhong any longer. Blame himself for being blind, mistakenly trusting someone like him as a comrade he could count on!

Qiao Xianhong’s life wasn’t great to begin with, plus he had a father like that. Luo Xudong merely guided things a bit, and his father’s gambling addiction became uncontrollable.

After retiring, Qiao Xianhong wanted to make some noise. Right now was a time when everything was ready to bloom, and opportunities to make money were everywhere.

But whatever Qiao Xianhong did ended in loss. Not only did he lose money, but he was incredibly unlucky—constantly cheated, with endless troubles. In the past two years, even eating led to a toothache, sleeping resulted in nightmares, and not a single thing went his way!

In the end, it wasn’t just his father in debt; he was in debt too, and that’s when he thought of Luo Xudong.

”Mom, are you relieved now?” Beisitian said with a smile.

Mrs. Qin closed her eyes, and tears flowed. She wasn’t short of money now, as her son and daughter-in-law were capable. It wasn’t really about the money; it was the frustration. No one else could understand the bitterness she endured during those years!

While others were running toward better days, toward prosperity, she was still counting how many handfuls of cornmeal to ration each day. Putting too much meant running out for the next meal; too little, and everyone was too weak to work. Her only little son was skin and bones, while others’ kids were at least tall and strong. How could she not feel tormented as a mother?

”Mom, it’s all in the past now, Xudong is taking it out on them for you,” Beisitian handed her a handkerchief.

Luo Anguo lowered his head beside her, feeling equally upset, clearly recalling those years when he was bedridden. Just thinking about it was terrifying; those years were worse than death, but somehow they made it through!

After venting for a while, the couple’s emotions calmed somewhat. Beisitian sent them back to their house and returned to find Luo Xudong sitting on the sofa.

”Will you keep going?” Beisitian asked.

Luo Xudong’s expression was cold, ”It’s not enough. Eight thousand dollars with interest, I’ll take every last cent back.”

”Qiao Xianhong clearly isn’t one to know the bottom line. Be careful of his backlash,” Beisitian noticed that Qiao Xianhong was a bit sinister when he left, angry because he couldn’t borrow money.

She knew Luo Xudong had a handle on things and would continue to pressure Qiao Xianhong, tormenting him without going so far as to cause harm.

”I’ll tell him in the end,” Luo Xudong said calmly.

Beisitian smiled, wondering how Qiao Xianhong would feel knowing his past two years of distress were all due to Luo Xudong’s doing.

Someone like Qiao Xianhong doesn’t deserve sympathy; when Luo Xudong entrusted him with eight thousand dollars, he gave him his trust and life. Yet Qiao used it to pay off gambling debts, always for his own sake.

He might have solved his own problems, but what about the Luo Family?

Neither of them planned to discuss Qiao Xianhong’s matter any further. Beisitian brought up attending the upcoming banquet.

Upon hearing this, Luo Xudong remained silent for a moment; he wasn’t really keen on her going, worried because of her health.

”I heard there will be two official representatives and some people from the military. Overall, it’s worth going,” Beisitian said.

Luo Xudong sighed inwardly; if he were strong enough, Beisitian wouldn’t need to worry so much.

He didn’t stop Beisitian, planning to have Chen Jinliang accompany her. Chen Jinliang was the best in the guard unit; otherwise, he wouldn’t have placed him by Beisitian’s side.

”Don’t push yourself too hard,” Luo Xudong said.

”Don’t worry, you’re striving, I can’t just sit back and do nothing,” Beisitian replied with a smile.

Luo Xudong saw her cheerful smile and planted a kiss on her forehead; with such a wife, what more could a husband ask for.

Luo Xudong had been very busy lately; if Qiao Xianhong hadn’t come, he would likely arrive home very late again. That night, the couple lay in bed chatting until past ten before drifting off to sleep.

Early the next morning, Beisitian took a car to work. No sooner had she left than Peng Baocheng arrived with gifts, only to find no one home.

Knowing Beisitian worked at the military hospital, Peng was careful not to make the gifts too obvious, since the authorities were cracking down on bribery. He didn’t want Beisitian to get criticized, so he intended to leave the gifts at her home.

To his surprise, Luo Anguo stubbornly refused to accept, saying something about not taking rewards without merit. Luo Anguo wasn’t being obstinate; he understood the recent effort to fight corruption, and didn’t want Luo Xudong and Beisitian attacked because of them.

Peng Baocheng left with no choice but to put the gifts back in his car and drive to the hospital.

He had pondered Ma Tianlai’s words for a long time. His wife had been a vegetative state for nearly two years; Ma Tianlai’s son for even longer. Knowing Ma Tianlai had searched far and wide with no success.

Lately, Ma Tianlai said his son suddenly woke up but didn’t specify how, so Peng hadn’t asked further, as it was a different condition with no reference value.

After Ma Tianlai’s son woke up, Peng Baocheng went to visit. The boy was all skin and bones, but within six months, he seemed revitalized—no longer pearl-round, but almost back to normal, just thinner than most kids.

Peng didn’t know at the time that Ma Tianlai’s son was cured by someone, or he would have interrogated him for every detail. But Ma Tianlai couldn’t disclose that then; Beisitian’s identity was too sensitive, especially since Peng wasn’t familiar with her.

Now acquainted with Beisitian, and having had the custom tailoring incident, Peng thought of seeking medical help, seizing this opportunity.

Peng spent the night contemplating Ma Tianlai’s words, deducing from them that Ma Tianlai’s son must have been cured by the young lady. Although it was a bit incredulous, the more he thought about it, the more excited he became.

If Ma Tianlai’s son’s inexplicable ailment could be solved, maybe there was hope for his wife!

And if not, it was just waiting for the day she would leave.

Ma Tianlai didn’t fully inform Peng. Worried Beisitian would blame him, Peng reached the 232 Military District Hospital’s lobby to inquire about appointments.

Since that young lady had cured Ma Tianlai’s son, Peng figured she had to be an expert or professor. However, when he asked for her appointment as a specialist, they said she didn’t exist!

”How can she not exist? Look again, I need to book Beisitian!” Peng was almost frantic.
