I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 525: Chapter 524: Seeking Medical Help

Peng Baocheng felt extremely strange in his heart. Through the glass, he saw Beisitian wearing a white coat sitting at a desk, with a woman sitting on one side, and the two were discussing something.

There were three standing inside this clinic, and four more outside, seemingly waiting in line.

In another room, a doctor in his thirties looked a bit gloomy and said to the slightly older doctor beside him, ”Sister Luo, this clinic should just be handed to her in the future.”

Zhou Wenwen pursed her lips. Ever since Beisitian cured some difficult patients, she continued to treat more people, and without exception, all of them became her regular patients. Whenever they came, they only looked for Beisitian, and if she wasn’t there, they preferred not to see any other doctor.

Now it seemed the entire traditional Chinese medicine clinic relied on Beisitian. Without her, it couldn’t operate.

At first, Zhou Wenwen quite liked Beisitian’s straightforwardness, but now seeing her popularity, she couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous.

Luo Xinfang glanced at her, ”Why are you making bitter remarks? Xiao Bei has real skills. Before she came, our clinic didn’t have this many people either.”

”Of course, all these people are here for her.” Zhou Wenwen was still very unhappy.

Seeing Liu Chunxing approaching from a distance, she rolled her eyes and went inside. Liu Chunxing insisted on seeing Beisitian. The last time when Beisitian wasn’t there, Zhou Wenwen offered to treat her, but she refused with a smile.

It wasn’t just Liu Chunxing; basically, anyone Beisitian treated would come back to her for follow-ups.

Zhou Wenwen was infuriated that time and started to feel dissatisfied with Beisitian in her heart, but she also knew Luo Xinfang was right. Beisitian had genuine talent and hadn’t done anything to provoke her, so she could at most make some bitter remarks.

Luo Xinfang sighed inwardly. Her father-in-law, Mei Zhiwei, somehow learned of the connection between Beisitian and the Tian Family. He had mentioned several times, both openly and subtly, urging her to invite Beisitian to their home.

But Beisitian was pregnant, basically commuting between two places every two days. On what grounds could she invite her?

Thinking about her niece, Luo Jiali, coming to Beijing soon, she wondered if it might be worth having Jiali invite her?

The Mei Family is also quite influential, with considerable social connections. Forming an alliance with the Tian Family could be a good option. Hence, Luo Xinfang didn’t resist the idea.

Peng Baocheng overheard their conversation, and a thought flashed through his mind. These people seemed not to know Beisitian well. Recalling Ma Tianlai’s words, ’Some things can’t be said explicitly,’ he suddenly felt that Doctor Bei might not be an ordinary person.

Even with such thoughts, his doubts were not lessened. He took a few steps forward and heard someone behind him say, ”Comrade, get in line; everyone is here to see Doctor Bei. No one is more in a hurry than anyone else, so don’t cut in line.”

As soon as this person spoke, there was a chorus of agreement from behind. Cutting in could cost others thirty minutes; waiting there was already tiring enough, let alone everyone being unwell themselves.

Peng Baocheng couldn’t out-talk so many people, so he obediently queued up at the back, feeling a bit mortified. With his status and position, he actually had to line up like an ordinary person!

Thinking thoroughly about Ma Tianlai’s words yesterday, Peng Baocheng held back his frustration. Apart from anything else, just for the two diagrams Doctor Bei gave him, it was worth it. With some other doctors, even getting a consultation would require rigorous screening.

There were at least seven people ahead. Peng Baocheng waited nearly an hour before it was finally his turn!

”Madam — oh, no, Doctor Bei, I’m here for medical help!” Peng Baocheng said courteously.

Beisitian was writing something, and upon hearing a somewhat familiar voice, she raised her head, somewhat surprised to see Peng Baocheng. She then smiled slightly.

”I see you’re in good health. Just drink less alcohol,” Beisitian said.

”Doctor Bei, I’m here to seek treatment for my wife!” Peng Baocheng said, his voice slightly heavy. Despite describing it to doctors many times, he still felt emotional every time he spoke of it.

”Alas, it was because of my drunk driving that I got into a traffic accident. I wasn’t seriously hurt, but my wife...the airbag didn’t deploy, and she hit her head. She didn’t die right then, but she became a vegetable.”

Every time Peng Baocheng mentioned it, he was filled with remorse. If he hadn’t ignored his wife’s advice and insisted on driving himself, this accident wouldn’t have occurred, and his wife wouldn’t be lying in bed, unable to care for herself as if dead.

A vegetative state...

Beisitian was silent for a moment. Neurology and gynecology were not her strengths. Even Beidewang had only slightly improved under her care, and it had almost been six months, indicating extremely slow progress.

”I’m not skilled in neurology,” Beisitian admitted honestly.

Peng Baocheng’s eyes immediately showed a trace of disappointment upon hearing this. However, holding onto a sliver of hope, he said, ”Doctor Bei, I’m begging you. Could you at least come to take a look? Could you?”

”I can, but you’ll have to wait until after my shift,” Beisitian replied.

The military hospital rules prohibited consultations during normal working hours, as it violated the regulations. Besides, Beisitian had no reason to leave so many patients and follow Peng Baocheng.

Hearing this, Peng Baocheng nodded hastily, ”Of course, of course, I’ll wait for Doctor Bei, just wait on the side!”

He stood up as he said this and moved to one side, noticing a fifty-something senior doctor looking at him. He nodded in acknowledgment.

Qin Fengwang smiled at him, completely unconcerned that he only had a few patients while Beisitian had a long line.

In the medical profession, whoever is more competent will naturally have more patients. Qin Fengwang wasn’t petty; if someone sought his treatment, he’d oblige; if not, he’d enjoy the leisure.

Moreover, by observing Beisitian’s treatments, sometimes he even benefited a lot, occasionally hearing one or two ancient prescriptions.

Beisitian didn’t mind him taking note of the ancient prescriptions, so he recorded them for future study. Many old Chinese doctors are quite obsessive about ancient prescriptions.

Finally, it was noon, and the doctors were ready to finish their shifts. Most patients were aware of the doctors’ schedules, so there was no one left outside, except Peng Baocheng.

”If Doctor Bei doesn’t mind, you can dine at my place,” Peng Baocheng suggested.

Beisitian nodded, notifying her family, and outside, Chen Jinliang had already parked the car at the entrance waiting.

With this, Peng Baocheng had no choice but to board Chen Jinliang’s car and head to his home together.

On the way, Beisitian couldn’t resist the sleepiness and dozed off in the car, as pregnant women tend to sleep more than others, especially after a busy morning.

Chen Jinliang and Peng Baocheng both quieted their breathing upon noticing this.
