I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 532: Chapter 531: Losing the Watermelon, Picking Up the Sesame Seed

Shao Simin saw Peng Baocheng and Ma Tianlai chatting and laughing with Beisitian, and felt quite puzzled. Why did Beisitian know these two people? What exactly was their relationship?

She personally saw these two approaching Beisitian.

She hesitated in her heart; although she had seen it with her own eyes, she felt that Beisitian couldn’t possibly know such big bosses. She wanted to explore the truth, but feared that if it wasn’t as she thought, others would find out about Beisitian’s family ties.

As Shao Simin hesitated, she saw her husband Luo Xuhua walk over, and after thinking for a moment, she followed him.

Luo Xuhua had not seen Beisitian yet, and this foundation launch meeting was initiated by him. The organizer was Shenghua Group, and he hadn’t had a moment’s respite, not having eaten anything yet, though he had had several drinks, making his stomach uncomfortable now.

Although he knew Beisitian was at the venue, not seeing her made him a bit doubtful of Shao Simin, but he truly didn’t have time to look for her; he was too busy tonight.

”Mr. Luo, I have to remind you, President Peng seems easygoing, but he’s not actually easygoing. Today is mainly about getting to know each other; in the future, you’ll have to handle relationships on your own.”

Beside Luo Xuhua walked a man in a neatly tailored suit. He had collaborated with Peng Baocheng twice before and was likely to continue collaborating in the future, thus knowing Peng Baocheng.

Luo Xuhua asked him to be an intermediary, to make an introduction between the two. Besides being a real estate tycoon, Peng Baocheng also had other companies, including subsidiaries like food and clothing. Popular domestic brands such as Renhe yogurt and Deli chocolate are all his company’s products.

Luo Xudong had always wanted to collaborate with Peng Baocheng, but never had the opportunity to meet him. Taking advantage of the invitation sent out under the names of two officials, he was surprised when he came.

”I understand, thank you very much, Mr. Chen. If it’s successful, I owe you a favor!” Luo Xuhua said with a smile.

Mr. Chen chuckled, ”That’s all easy to say, what’s our relationship.” While saying this, he accepted the promise.

The two walked over together, and Luo Xuhua immediately saw Beisitian standing there, his mouth curving slightly upwards. It seemed that Simin hadn’t deceived him; his sister-in-law indeed came, which meant she probably wasn’t holding a grudge.

When he saw Beisitian looking over, he smiled and nodded, intending to speak with her after meeting Peng Baocheng. She was alone here, without Xudong accompanying her, she might feel quite uneasy.

He didn’t plan on having Shao Simin accompany her; he knew her mental state and that his wife somewhat looked down on his brother’s family.

Luo Xudong was doing better, having been promoted to deputy group leader in two years, but Beisitian came from the countryside, so she inevitably held some disdain in her heart.

”Hello, President Peng, this is the Chairman of Shenghua Group I mentioned before, Luo Xuhua, young and promising, barely over thirty and he’s already made the company this large!” Mr. Chen said with a smile.

Luo Xuhua extended his hand with a smile, ”Hello, President Peng, I’ve long heard of you and always wanted to meet, but never had the chance.”

Peng Baocheng looked at Luo Xuhua, finding him much more straightforward than most people and speaking candidly, not annoying at all.

”Hello, I’ve heard Old Chen mention you.” Peng Baocheng said with a smile, as calm as when Beisitian had first met him.

Hearing this, Luo Xuhua felt a bit happy; having left an impression was good. So with a smile, he said, ”I wonder if President Peng has time. I’d like to invite you for a drink someday.”

Peng Baocheng laughed cheerfully, ”Forget drinking, I quit alcohol years ago.”

Luo Xuhua’s smile paused; he was being declined. As Mr. Chen said, he might seem calm, but in reality, he was not easy to get along with.

Men could bond more over drinks, but being directly refused made Luo Xuhua regret not suggesting a meal invitation. One can’t quit eating meals, after all.

Mr. Chen wore a smile, inwardly sighing. Although Shenghua Group was a public company, it still seemed too green in the eyes of a giant like Peng Baocheng; he simply wasn’t interested.

He couldn’t help but lament that sometimes it depended on luck. His total assets were actually less than Luo Xuhua’s, but he happened to have a project that Peng Baocheng needed, and the timing aligned, leading to a successful first collaboration, followed by a second, thus creating a rapport.

”What a pity.” Luo Xuhua smiled.

Mr. Chen’s gaze shifted, spotting Ma Tianlai not far away, his eyes brightening, ”Boss Ma, long time no see!”

Along with Mr. Chen’s words, Luo Xuhua looked over as well. Ma Tianlai’s main forces were in Hong Kong, and he seemed to be moving operations to the Mainland, another formidable figure.

Ma Tianlai naturally wouldn’t broadcast his setbacks everywhere or inform others of his plans to stage a comeback on the Mainland. Although he lost his ground in Hong Kong, his network and influence were still formidable, at least not something Mr. Chen and Luo Xuhua, still green, could underestimate.

The saying goes, ”A lean camel is bigger than a horse.”

Ma Tianlai remained silent, especially when he saw Luo Xuhua seeking an intermediary to get close to Peng Baocheng, finding it amusing. Luo Xuhua was indeed smart and daring but lacked keen insight. A person like Beisitian, no matter how low-key, would inevitably reveal some clues, and if one pondered it, surely something would be revealed.

Now, Luo Xuhua circled widely to get to know Peng Baocheng, yet didn’t realize that someone close by might bridge cooperation with just a word.

There lay a huge watermelon, but he held a sesame seed, savoring it carefully—what a laughable scene.

”All is well, all is quite well, and Boss Chen is doing well too,” Ma Tianlai said with a smile.

In such places, regardless of whether business is successful, one would not embarrass the other party.

After exchanging pleasantries with Ma Tianlai for a moment, Shao Simin walked over from a distance, her arm intimately linked with Luo Xuhua’s. She smiled, waiting for Luo Xuhua to introduce her, as a form of etiquette and a symbol of status.

In her view, her husband put in a lot of effort and naturally wouldn’t fail; she had just clearly seen smiles all around, suggesting a pleasant conversation.

Little did she know, Luo Xuhua merely smiled and did not introduce them as Shao Simin had anticipated. He himself had been turned away, let alone introducing his wife.

Since there wasn’t much hope here, Luo Xuhua didn’t want to lose face; he said a couple of polite remarks and started walking toward Beisitian.

”Sister-in-law, why didn’t you come find us when you arrived?” Luo Xuhua said with a smile.
