I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 526: Chapter 525: Drawing Inspiration

Pregnant women tend to sleep a lot. When they arrived at Peng Baocheng’s doorstep, Chen Jinliang stopped for a while, but Beisitian still hadn’t woken up. He originally wanted to let her sleep a bit longer, but sleeping while sitting was bound to make her tired when she awoke.

Chen Jinliang looked at Beisitian with a sense of pride in his heart. His sister-in-law trusted him! From his observations of Beisitian during this period, she was a cautious person. If there wasn’t someone she trusted around, she wouldn’t have fallen asleep!

Thinking of this, Chen Jinliang’s lips couldn’t help but turn up at the corners.

”Company Commander Chen, what should we do now?” Peng Baocheng asked Chen Jinliang breathlessly but quietly.

Before Chen Jinliang could speak, Beisitian opened her eyes, her gaze momentarily confused before quickly becoming clear.

”Sorry, I fell asleep.” Beisitian said somewhat embarrassed, but also a bit alarmed in her heart. Even with Chen Jinliang by her side, she slept too deeply!

Although Beisitian appeared unperturbed, she was introspecting in her heart. It seemed it was better not to do consultations at noon in the future. Now, she couldn’t control her sleepiness and was always tired.

”No worries, no worries, it’s my fault for troubling Doctor Bei,” Peng Jincheng also felt a bit embarrassed, ”My wife also had to sleep a lot when she was pregnant at that time...”

”Where’s Boss Peng’s child?” Chen Jinliang asked.

”Abroad, quite busy, can only come back once or twice a year, and can’t stay for long. People often speak of returning to one’s roots, and if I weren’t getting older, I really wouldn’t want to stay too far from my child,” Peng Jincheng said with a smile.

Peng Jincheng’s residence was a courtyard house, similar to a military compound, and it was a single house, although its location wasn’t as good as Beisitian’s and others’, the area was relatively large.

Although living in apartment buildings was becoming more popular, they were stifling, with no place to entertain guests, only an entrance hall and two bedrooms on either side north and south. He really couldn’t adapt, so when he returned he found a way to buy this courtyard house, bright and spacious!

”My wife is in the west room of the north house, with a nursemaid taking care of her,” Peng Jincheng said as he led them to the living room. ”Doctor Bei, please have a seat, let’s eat first!”

He said this, and then called outside. Not long after, two women dressed in similar clothing came in, looking like the household helpers.

”Are the dishes I instructed you to make ready?” Peng Jincheng asked.

”Sir, they are ready,” one of them replied respectfully.

”Serve the dishes,” Peng Jincheng said.

When he knew Beisitian was coming, Peng Jincheng immediately notified the household helpers to prepare the meal and specifically asked what kind of dishes pregnant women could eat and what they should avoid.

People like them in business, if they want to deliberately get close to someone, it’s pretty easy. They put in a lot of effort, and it’s not just superficial.

The meal was served quickly, and when Beisitian saw it, it was almost entirely dishes suitable for a pregnant woman’s palate.

Chen Jinliang sat down and ate with them. At the table, Peng Jincheng chatted with Beisitian and Chen Jinliang about all sorts of things, including some things he knew about the military. Although none of the three had much in common, with him there, the atmosphere was quite harmonious.

After the meal, Beisitian felt drowsiness rising again. The little sleep she had in the car was really nothing, but falling asleep at someone’s home was absolutely inappropriate and dreadfully impolite!

Beisitian blinked her eyes, once again resolving in her heart not to do consultations at noon unless absolutely necessary, at least not before giving birth.

Beisitian gathered her spirits; having just finished eating, it was inconvenient for Peng Jincheng to directly ask her to check on his wife, so she took the initiative to bring it up.

Peng Jincheng was only too happy for this and led Beisitian to the west room.

In the west room, a nurse was sitting on a chair by the bed, gently massaging a woman. The woman’s face was gaunt, her cheeks sunken, her complexion waxy and dull, her eyes tightly shut, her eyeballs unmoving beneath the lids.

”You can go out now,” Peng Jincheng said to the nurse.

The nurse stood up, bowed slightly, then left the west room.

”There is someone by my wife’s side day and night,” Peng Jincheng looked at his wife with a tender expression.

Beisitian approached the bedside, lowered her head to look at the woman on the bed, and asked, ”What’s her name?”

”My wife’s name is Ning Jiayin,” Peng Jincheng smiled, ”I really like this name.”

Beisitian glanced at Peng Jincheng and then turned back to look at Ning Jiayin. Brain damage couldn’t be discerned from her appearance; only a blood test could do it.

Of course, this test was different from a modern medical test; she used talismanic water for the experiment.

Beisitian took out a silver needle, drew a drop of blood from the center of Ning Jiayin’s forehead, and dropped it into a prepared glass cup. This time the glass cup was empty, and after dripping in the blood, she poured in a small porcelain bottle she had taken out.

The blood quickly dissolved into the talismanic water, with almost no color change, making Beisitian frown.

Ning Jiayin was capable of autonomous breathing, indicating she indeed was in a vegetative state, not brain dead—at least her brainstem could still respond neurologically.

These professional terms Beisitian learned from her exchanges with modern medicine, because Mystic Doctors in brain augmentation generally were weak. They didn’t have the capability of techniques like ultrasound or X-rays to see inside the human body, so their conclusions weren’t as specific and vivid as those found in western medicine.

She remembered her master had once talked about such cases. It’s just that they were so rare that even her master, who lived over a hundred years, only encountered it twice.

In one instance, the family gave up treatment and ended their loved one’s life proactively, and in another, her master spent three years for the patient to open their eyes!

At that time, Beisitian wasn’t yet by her master’s side, so she didn’t witness this, but she imagined it should have been quite difficult.

Now, however, Beisitian had other ideas. She had previously done some understanding of vegetative states from modern medicine, incidentally during her research on Beidewang’s amnesia.

Vegetative patients have cognitive disorders, but because the brainstem function isn’t completely lost, the body can still receive nutrients and perform neurological reflexes.

Modern medicine also has treatment methods, such as stimulating or using hyperbaric oxygen to improve cerebral blood circulation, promoting reticular formation activation, and rebuilding brain function!

However, most of this is still theoretical, with clinical trial successes being pitifully few, as there aren’t more suitable methods.

Nevertheless, this gave Beisitian an idea. She had many ways to improve cerebral blood circulation, and rebuilding brain function wasn’t impossible either; she could make talismanic water for enlightenment, just like her master, and then use acupuncture!

This way, there was no need to spend three years, and she would take fewer detours than her master.

So, sometimes learning more knowledge has no drawbacks. Modern medicine has its advantages; many aspects are worth referencing!
