I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 517: Chapter 516: Modern Fashion with a Chinese Flair

Even though the family has solid assets, if there’s still no improvement this year, he plans to shut down the business for good. So, when he heard Ma Tianlai’s words, he immediately set aside his tasks and came. His original intention was not to close down.

Making money isn’t as important now; the key is avoiding embarrassment. Everyone in their circle knows each other, having run a business for two or three years with ambitious claims of setting a benchmark for everyone to see. But each year loses more than the last, that’s embarrassing enough.

Peng Baocheng owns two companies, each dealing with different trades, but neither makes him run around like this. For just one clothing store, he’s exhausted his mind.

He came with hope, but unexpectedly, as soon as he entered, they were about to leave. Peng Baocheng’s heart shattered again.

”Madam, feel free to express your preferred clothing style, we have designers who can tailor them for you!” Peng Baocheng said with a smile.

Beisitian shrugged, ”Your clothes are too expensive, I can’t afford them, and besides, I’m not accustomed to these styles.”

For the first time, Peng Baocheng encountered someone so candid about not having money, without feeling embarrassed, insecure, or worried about being looked down upon, stating it so frankly; he couldn’t help but glance at her a few times.

Ma Tianlai quickly suggested, ”If Doctor Bei really doesn’t like them, I can take you to another store, although time is a bit tight.”

Peng Baocheng was surprised by Ma Tianlai’s attitude, Doctor Bei?

Was the important person he mentioned a doctor?

But isn’t he bringing someone to help promote the clothing? Why suggest leaving before any conversation started? Not very friendly!

”Madam, what style are you accustomed to and at what price point? We can all negotiate.” Peng Baocheng offered, smiling.

He didn’t see how Beisitian could bring any promotional effect for him; his interest in keeping her was driven by curiosity.

”Of course, it’s the Chinese style,” Beisitian blurted out, ”How many women nowadays choose this style?” she glanced at a backless gown nearby.

Peng Baocheng slightly curled his lips, ”Pardon my bluntness, but we should start integrating with the world. We can’t keep focusing on the past; that’s no way to progress.”

Upon hearing this, Beisitian looked at Peng Baocheng with a peculiar expression and asked, ”So with your focus on the future, have you made money?”

Peng Baocheng was choked up, forcing a bitter smile, ”Madam speaks very frankly. My meaning is not about making money or not; as you can see, this women’s clothing store is not my main business.”

Beisitian nodded, ”I mean, while keeping up with the times, you should also consider the current environment and customs. Directly moving foreign styles in, few nationals can accept them.”

Peng Baocheng laughed, ”Then does madam have any good suggestions?”

He doesn’t really believe Beisitian has any good suggestions. Everyone is just bantering theories, to see whose knowledge is higher, who wins.

Beisitian looked at a sleeveless fitted knee-length dress, tilting her head slightly. When she talked about Chinese style earlier, a thought flashed in her mind. If clothes with Chinese elements were combined with these, could they be worn at formal occasions?

Before roaming the world with her master, Beisitian was a young noble lady, invited to various princess and noble lady banquets. That also indicated she lived in an environment where such matters must be considered.

Spending lavishly wasn’t uncommon, even just for some fabric, style, and accessorizing were all quite meticulous.

Since arriving here, Beisitian found the dressing habits were not particular at all. Rough cloth jackets, rough cloth pants, served as the most common attire in Kao Village. It was not until she came to the city that she saw various styles of clothing, but none won her heart.

Upon entering the store and seeing these clothes, she felt even less interest. But with a party coming up, how could she wear what she wants while maintaining elegance?

Beisitian compared a sleeveless fitted short dress, and a picture of Tian Qiu wearing a slim fit suit dress flashed in her mind.

The suit dress was very Western-style; if the little suit on top were altered a bit, the collar changed, and the sleeves turned into three-quarter sleeves, draped over this short dress, would the effect be different?

What if this suit’s neckline to the chest were adorned with some exquisite embroidery?

Beisitian was lost in thought, completely unaware of Peng Baocheng’s impatient expression beside her. If it weren’t for Ma Tianlai’s presence and remembering his earlier words, ’important person,’ he would have left by now.

Even under the circumstances, Peng Baocheng looked at Ma Tianlai with some helplessness. He hadn’t seen anything special about this ’important person,’ apart from being able to argue theories particularly well, almost anyone can theorize. The key is whether it can be applied in life.

”Do you have a pen?” Beisitian suddenly asked.

Peng Baocheng was really about to leave. What’s she going to do with a pen, write an essay?

Ma Tianlai quickly pulled a fountain pen from his breast pocket and handed it to Beisitian, then asked Peng Baocheng for paper. Beisitian started drawing something with the pen.

Beisitian visualized what was in her mind onto paper quickly, drawing exactly what she had imagined earlier. After looking at it, she found many areas for improvement. Even without them, if this piece could be created, it would be a modern ceremonial dress with Chinese flair!

Peng Baocheng saw Beisitian examining the drawing she made, casting an apologetic look at Ma Tianlai, intending to leave; time was too precious as he’d set aside important work to come.

This store was originally his wife’s dream; he opened it at a loss just to commemorate her, which is why he would run around for a clothing store despite being an executive.

”Madam, if there’s nothing else, I’ll...” Peng Baocheng started, then saw the drawing in Beisitian’s hand and widened his eyes.

”Madam, may I take a look?” Peng Baocheng asked, with a faint tone of surprise.

Beisitian nodded, ”Just a moment.” She said, and modified a few parts on the paper. She drew some simple embroidery designs on the chest, subtly altered the sleeves to simpler ruffled sleeves, changing the dress style to one of solemn grace and elegance!

”This looks a bit pleasing now.” Beisitian smiled with satisfaction.

Peng Baocheng already leaned his head over, deeply admiring the dress on the paper, with words naturally appearing in his mind.

A modern fashion sense with Chinese elements!
