I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 527: Chapter 256: There Is Hope

Peng Baocheng was like a prisoner waiting for a verdict, his nerves extraordinarily tense. Seeing Beisitian frown, his heart sank.

Although he kept reminding himself not to hold out too much hope, if he truly had no hope, he wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to seek help.

He opened his mouth, wanting to ask how it was, if there was still hope for recovery, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it.

As long as Beisitian didn’t give him an answer, he clung to a sliver of hope. If Beisitian outright rejected him, he would be utterly despondent.

Chen Jinliang, standing at the door, observed Peng Baocheng’s expression and couldn’t help but sigh internally. Who said the wealthy are all heartless? Who said wealth leads to decadence? This man’s feelings for his wife run so deep!

Chen Jinliang didn’t understand medicine, but he had been to hospitals and never seen anyone conduct examinations like Beisitian, so he watched with interest.

Peng Baocheng’s heartbeat was incredibly fast, feeling as if faster than it had ever been. He looked at Beisitian, waiting for her to speak.

”Your wife’s illness...”

”How is it?” Peng Baocheng asked anxiously before Beisitian could finish.

Beisitian glanced at him, then returned her gaze to Ning Jiayin, ”Don’t be nervous. I can’t guarantee a full recovery, but there is hope she could wake up.”

Peng Baocheng’s eyes widened, his breath almost halting, with only one sentence echoing in his mind: there’s hope she could wake up... hope to wake up!

”Don’t celebrate yet. I only said there is hope,” Beisitian said.

Because the brain is the domain of possibilities, she felt there was an eighty percent chance of waking Ning Jiayin, but she couldn’t promise for sure, just in case.

”Having hope is good, having hope is good...” Peng Baocheng’s hands trembled with excitement. He bent down to hold Ning Jiayin’s face, kissing her forehead, and whispered, ”Did you hear that? You can wake up, there is hope for you to wake up. You have to hold on, hold on, don’t leave me alone...”

Seeing this, both Beisitian and Chen Jinliang were silent. How many people can remain steadfast with their loved ones? People say men are heartless, but it’s not absolute.

”Doctor Bei, whatever you need, I’ll prepare it right away, whether it’s valuable herbs or medical instruments, I can purchase them!” Peng Baocheng said excitedly, his tone becoming much more respectful.

”Herbs are needed, but not the instruments.” Beisitian thought about which herbs would be best for talisman making.

Having an idea, Beisitian wanted to act quickly, so she wrote a prescription for Peng Baocheng. It wasn’t quite a prescription, just a list of the herbs needed initially.

Beisitian didn’t treat her on the spot. Seeing that the time was about right, she asked Chen Jinliang to take her back.

”Doctor Bei, I’ll deliver the dress to your home tomorrow morning,” Peng Baocheng said sincerely.

A dress didn’t require such a big boss to deliver personally, but he wanted to do it himself anyway.

Beisitian wore a light smile, ”You might need to come by tonight to pick up the medicine.”

With a look of surprise, Peng Baocheng nodded eagerly, ”Tell me what time, and I’ll be there on time!”

Having set a time with Peng Baocheng, Beisitian returned to the Chinese medicine clinic. Since she didn’t rest well at noon, she felt a bit sleepy in the afternoon. Luckily, there weren’t many patients today, and she managed to get through it.

Returning home, Beisitian took a nap before being roused by Mrs. Qin for dinner. After eating, she began making talismans.

In the afternoon, Peng Jincheng had already sent the herbs over, so everything was ready to go.

Beisitian planned to first make talismanic water to promote blood circulation in Ning Jiayin’s brain, to check for any repelling charm phenomenon. If there wasn’t, she would proceed with both remedies and give the awakening talismanic water simultaneously.

Although Ning Jiayin was in a coma, in some ways, it was easier to treat than Beidewang’s condition because there was a general direction.

Beidewang suffered from amnesia, and it was due to a brain injury with mental trauma causing the memory loss. The primary treatment for such a condition is psychological therapy.

However, Beisitian wasn’t very fond of this father originally. Although her memories included pieces about Beidewang, they didn’t add up to as much as those about her stepmother, whose memories were more vivid.

So using psychological therapy, especially the familial bond aspect, wasn’t feasible. Judging from his minimal reaction to Bei Jiale, there seemed to be some story between him and Bei Jiale as well.

Luo Xuping often stayed at Beisitian’s small courtyard, more so after school started, frequently coming there in the evenings to do homework.

Mrs. Qin, seeing Luo Xuping, feared he would cause trouble with Beisitian, so she also worked nearby, often staying in the area at night. If Beisitian needed to drink water or do something, she could be of help.

The two chatted quietly, and someone knocked on the door outside. Mrs. Qin assumed it was the medicine collector and went to open the door.

Sure enough, it was Peng Baocheng at the door. Greeting Mrs. Qin, he followed her inside.

”There are two bottles of medicine in total, to be taken morning and evening,” Beisitian said.

Peng Baocheng looked at the two baby fist-sized porcelain bottles; the medicine seemed so little, ”Doctor Bei, can’t you prescribe a bit more?”

”More medicine isn’t necessarily better. I need to observe the reaction after your wife takes this,” Beisitian replied.

Peng Baocheng nodded quickly, took the two small porcelain bottles, and talked with Beisitian for a while. Since the room was full of women, he didn’t stay long and left the small courtyard with the medicine.

The next day, Beisitian took a break. The Chinese medicine clinic’s schedule wasn’t fixed, and they had started working in shifts. She swapped a day and had the next day off, planning to rest during the day and attend the evening event.

Early the next morning, Peng Baocheng delivered the dress, praising, ”Doctor Bei, this dress looks even better made than drawn. Where do these inspirations come from? Simply brilliant!”

Beisitian smiled, took the dress and looked at it. The dress was actually quite simple. It was an inner white strapless dress, styled in a Western way with a hint of Korean flavor, not cinched, and flared out from the chest down.

The feature was a casual blazer on top, though it could no longer be considered a blazer. The style was somewhat Western, but the middle was China’s traditional cross-collar style, a red coat with black floral borders and simple embroidered patterns, a stand-up collar and three-quarter sleeves, paired with a Western-style short skirt, truly an elegant and noble dress!

Moreover, wearing this dress, one couldn’t even tell Beisitian was pregnant!
