I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 515: Chapter 514: Invitation

Ma Tianlai felt relieved when he saw Beisitian wasn’t being stubborn on this matter and readily agreed.

”By the way, Doctor Bei, do you know Luo Xuhua?” Ma Tianlai asked.

The reason he asked this was because he had inquired a bit beforehand and found out that Luo Xuhua and Luo Xudong were indeed brothers, cousins with the same grandfather, which was not an ordinary connection.

He was going to a soirée organized by Luo Xuhua the day after tomorrow night and wanted to gauge Beisitian’s reaction to better decide on his approach.

In the past, Ma Tianlai might not have cared, but ever since the real estate matter was resolved at lightning speed, he knew that Doctor Bei’s man was not ordinary either. Naturally, he had to treat his cousin well if they got along and avoid offending him if they didn’t.

The distinction between the two was significant, hence his question.

”I do; he’s my cousin, and we get along well,” Beisitian replied with a smile.

Seeing Beisitian’s gentle smile, Ma Tianlai found it hard to decipher her meaning. Their relationship seemed good, so it shouldn’t be sarcasm. He decided to improvise when the time came. Having an ally was better than having an adversary.

Besides, Shenghua Group was a large enterprise, and establishing a good relationship could make them a great partner.

Even though it’s a publicly listed big company, Ma Tianlai didn’t regard it too highly. In Hong Kong, he was a big boss, with major shareholders of many listed companies eager to curry favor with him. Though he no longer wielded the same power in the Mainland, his vision was set, and he found it difficult to take Shenghua Group too seriously.

Ma Tianlai had never been one to lament over lost opportunities. Since he gave up his power and industry over there decisively, he was determined to develop well in the Mainland.

Moreover, Ma Tianlai found it possible to become a powerful and wealthy figure in the Mainland. Beisitian was already a fortuitous encounter for him, and now Luo Xudong was added to the equation.

As for Ma Tianlai attending that soirée, Beisitian didn’t express too many opinions. However, unexpectedly, Shao Simin came alone that evening.

”Is there something you need, sister-in-law?” Beisitian asked calmly.

Shao Simin almost frowned when she saw her mild smile. Such a smile made it impossible to discern what Beisitian was thinking.

But remembering the purpose of her visit, Shao Simin restrained her emotions and said, ”Xuhua is hosting a soirée and inviting many prominent business figures. Originally, you were on the list, but because you sold your shares... of course, even though you withdrew, after discussion, Xuhua and I still hope you can attend.”

Shao Simin looked sincere.

The reason for inviting Beisitian was to make up for the previous unhappiness caused by the transfer of shares. After all, they had indeed bought Beisitian’s shares at the offering price, gaining an enormous advantage over her.

Luo Xuhua felt helpless about it, but at the time, Beisitian was determined to transfer, and if he didn’t purchase, others would. He didn’t want the shares to fall into external hands and since he also had preemptive rights, he acquired the shares.

Now, Luo Xuhua was already the largest shareholder of Shenghua Group, and no one could shake his position. Yet, he carried a psychological burden and felt too embarrassed to visit the small courtyard or see his brother.

Because of this, his attitude towards Shao Simin was cold, leaving her feeling aggrieved. No matter how considerate and accommodating she was, his attitude wouldn’t change.

Shao Simin knew that only the person responsible could resolve the issue, so she focused on Beisitian, hoping she would attend the soirée arranged by Xuhua to show Luo Xuhua that Beisitian wasn’t genuinely upset.

This was Shao Simin’s thought.

Moreover, she had another intention; she figured Beisitian probably felt slighted too. Letting her see the kinds of major bosses attending the event—far beyond the imagination of salaried employees like Beisitian—might make her regret withdrawing her shares, realizing it was too late to feel remorse!

”I understand your intentions, sister-in-law, but it’s inconvenient for me since I’m pregnant, so I won’t be going,” Beisitian said.

She had no interest in such events.

Shao Simin was surprised by her immediate refusal. Such a soirée was generally inaccessible to non-invited guests, and now she was inviting her, yet she still refused to go.

”Sitiang, this is a rare opportunity. As it’s a charity gala, not all attendees are business figures; many are benevolent political figures. We’ve also invited leaders from military district hospitals to participate. This charity gala isn’t just for show.”

Shao Simin looked earnest and wasn’t exaggerating. Luo Xuhua had spent over a year preparing for this event, painstakingly inviting participants.

Beisitian typically disliked noisy places and preferred quietness more since her pregnancy. However, upon hearing some names on the guest list mentioned by Shao Simin, she was slightly tempted.

Ma Tianlai hadn’t yet expanded his connections or resources here, so Beisitian had to think more about things. Once it was in motion, she could finally stop worrying.

Besides, she had constantly been thinking about the special supply products and saw this event as a great opportunity to gain some understanding.

Seeing her hesitate, Shao Simin knew she got her interested and said with a smile, ”I know it’s inconvenient for you, but it’s a rare chance. Once you arrive, find a quiet spot to observe. It’s really just to join in the fun.”

Beisitian thought it over and nodded in agreement. Since her pregnancy, she had only been home, at the office, visiting the Tian Family, or the old gentleman. She felt somewhat stifled, so she considered it a chance to go out.

This public event would have attendees of status, assuring order and safety, so she wouldn’t face safety issues inside.

Shao Simin smiled when Beisitian agreed. With little more to chat about, she casually exchanged a few words before preparing to leave.

”Oh, remember to wear formal attire,” Shao Simin reminded as she reached the door.

Beisitian, coming from the countryside, might show up in casual clothes and pants, which would be quite embarrassing—not to her but potentially causing Luo Xuhua to blame her for the faux pas, so she thought to warn her.

However, it was a bit late to prepare formal attire. Customizing one in two days was impossible, but in such a setting, wearing something cheap would be seen as shabby.

A semblance of curiosity sparked in Beisitian. What would a soirée of this era be like? How would it differ from the banquets in her past life?
