I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 436: Chapter 435: An Unexpected Move

After Wei Yuanqing finished speaking, he sensed that the vague hostility dissipated completely. He glanced at Luo Xudong, thinking to himself that this guy is quite protective.

Tao Hailin gave a light cough and said, ”Wei Zhongxun is a descendant of your Wei Family’s legacy, how can he take someone else as a master?”

He knew that saying this was somewhat inappropriate, as it was none of his business, but he just felt that if he saw this matter succeed, he would face a huge loss.

Perhaps the main reason was that he didn’t want to see Wei Yuanqing achieve his goal, Tao Hailin thought.

Wei Yuanqing’s smile turned cold. ”Indeed, he is a descendant of the Wei Family, but our Wei Family never prevents family members from taking a master, one must accommodate all to achieve something.”

He knew that this old fellow Tao Hailin did it on purpose, just to remind Beisitian that Wei Zhongxun was already the heir of the Wei Family. Even if they taught him well, he might not be whole-hearted, but if both parties were willing, he had no right to interfere!

Wei Yuanqing was well aware that this was similar to a political marriage. Wei Zhongxun as Beisitian’s apprentice aimed primarily at fostering goodwill between both sides. He also knew that even if Beisitian accepted Wei Zhongxun, it was impossible for her to treat him as an heir.

Tao Hailin gave Wei Yuanqing a cold glance. Such an old fox, using every possible means to win over this young man, could never be just for show; it would cost too much!

In the midst of their verbal sparring, Beisitian pondered many thoughts. She couldn’t do it alone; her previous idea was to unite the Left and Right Sects, but clearly, this approach would be difficult.

However, compared to uniting the Left and Right Sects, she had no better solution. It would take quite some time for her to nurture her own people to deal with those matters.

With Wei Yuanqing’s words as a prelude, Beisitian thought this was indeed a solution. If she took Wei Zhongxun as an apprentice, her relationship with the Wei Family would be closer. The Wei Family needed her, and she needed the Wei Family.

Although Wei Yuanqing spoke kindly, implying that Beisitian merely needed to take a named disciple, the prestige of the Wei Family was undeniable. Of course, Beisitian couldn’t just accept a named disciple; if she took him in, it would certainly be as a formal apprentice, thus saving face for the Wei Family.

However, the first apprentice being used to connect two families left Beisitian somewhat unwilling. Nevertheless, Wei Yuanqing mentioned it at the main table, so even some at the second table could hear it. If she had no intention, it wouldn’t matter, but now that she did, she couldn’t possibly not give him face.

Thinking of this, she smiled and said, ”Wei Zhongxun’s spirit is indeed commendable. I’ve always admired him, and since the elder is so generous to grant me an apprentice, I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Beisitian’s words greatly honored the Wei Family while ensuring she wasn’t perceived as passive, her sophistication earning Wei Yuanqing’s admiration.

Beisitian’s life experiences were entirely inconsistent with her age. If one wasn’t careful with words, it was easy to be led by him, intentionally or otherwise. Given the occasion, and the Wei Family’s identity, he had to say what he said.

Wei Yuanqing’s face lit with joy, ”Doctor Bei, is this an agreement?”

Beisitian smiled lightly, ”Naturally. I happen to be short on people around me. Besides, visiting Grandpa here today was also to ask Grandma and Grandpa for a person. Taking this opportunity, I plan to accept them as an apprentice as well.”

Tian Heming looked up; there was no need to say it; she meant Tian Zhi!

She was going to formally accept Tian Zhi as an apprentice!

How could Tian Heming not agree? He agreed wholeheartedly; he had been worried Tian Zhi was immature, possibly disappointing Beisitian, but he didn’t expect so quickly he would become a formal apprentice.

This promise made at the dining table was merely verbal; the formal apprenticeship ceremony had to wait until after the banquet concluded.

Having successfully gained Beisitian’s acceptance, Wei Yuanqing couldn’t stop smiling, drinking more than usual, while Tao Hailin remained sullen, feeling deeply uneasy.

After a satisfying meal, the guests and hosts parted soon after.

Luo Xuhua, Zhou Quan, and others drove themselves back; Tao Hailin didn’t need a ride and left in a hurry.

The Wei Yuanqing family of three remained to further discuss the apprenticeship ceremony.

A Mystic Doctor’s apprenticeship is of great importance, but considering Beisitian’s current situation, it was decided to keep it simple.

Although the Wei Family and Beisitian were not entirely in the same boat, they were definitely tied together. Protecting Beisitian was truly beneficial for the Wei Family.

Wei Zhongxun was equally happy. Previously, if anyone said to make a woman seven or eight years younger his master, he would’ve slapped them awake, but after witnessing a Spiritual Talisman, he realized he fell short compared to Beisitian and was genuinely convinced. He was glad to be apprenticed.

Wei Zhongxun chatted with Tian Zhi, while Wei Zhongyuan sat silently beside them, a demeanor the Wei Family was accustomed to, hence not much notice was taken.

Now in the Tian Family’s inner courtyard, only these few people were present in the hall. Wei Zhongyuan slightly compressed his lips, suddenly got up, and said to Beisitian, ”If not unworthy, I too wish to serve as Doctor Bei’s assistant!”

Wei Zhongyuan wasn’t one to judge solely by appearance, yet he was influenced by Beisitian’s age, refraining from immediately requesting apprenticeship, aligning more with his grandfather’s approach.

However, despite altering his phrasing, the intention remained unchanged. Upon hearing, everyone fell silent. Wei Yuanqing felt surprised seeing his grandson.

This grandson was cold both inside and out, with inherent pride that few could command. To see him so humble this time meant he was truly anxious.

Beisitian quietly observed Wei Zhongyuan, who in turn seriously regarded her. Despite some haste in his words, his approach was not impulsive but rather deeply contemplated.

The Wei Family had no one left to guide him. Across the entire medical field, he stood atop the pyramid. Now, the only person who could lead him further was Beisitian, despite her youth!

With a faint smile, Beisitian said, ”Some things can’t be rushed.”

Wei Zhongyuan fell silent; she had seen through it.

”If you wish, I can grant you success now.”

Beisitian’s words left Wei Zhongyuan momentarily stunned, followed by a joyous expression, mirrored by the joyful expression of Wei Yuanqing; however, her next words sank their hearts.

”But from now on, you will make no further progress.”

Though softly spoken, Beisitian’s words felt like a boulder dropping onto Wei Zhongyuan’s heart, causing it to tremble.
