I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 251: Chapter 250: Tian Lei’s Big Brother

Since the tuberculosis was discovered quite early, it was effectively controlled without spreading, and Tian Lei was very calm, even describing it as relaxed.

As he put it, this was called a paid vacation.

The next day, Ma Xiuli took a day off to accompany Yu Shufang for a check-up. Since it was a gynecological examination and it was inconvenient for Ren Hongliang to go, there were many places where he couldn’t help.

Moreover, Ma Xiuli wanted to see for herself if the tumor had really shrunk.

By the time it was their turn to be examined, it was almost noon. Ma Xiuli accompanied Yu Shufang into the examination room, where X-rays were taken, and blood samples were analyzed.

However, the results wouldn’t be available until the afternoon, which was somewhat exasperating.

”Sister Yu, don’t worry, there hasn’t been any pain all week, things will definitely get better!” Ma Xiuli held Yu Shufang’s hand and patted it, clearly seeing her nervousness.

If the tumor hadn’t shrunk, the absence of abdominal pain was only temporary, and she would still have to face the decision of whether to remove the uterus and ovaries!

Facing this decision again, Yu Shufang’s heart would be even more conflicted, even unwilling to confront it. Now she only prayed that Beisitian’s medicine would really work!

Yu Shufang barely touched her lunch, while Ma Xiuli ate fairly well, but Ren Hongliang ate quite a bit. In his view, no matter what happened, his mother would always be his mother, and he couldn’t hold a grudge over some unfounded concerns.

Finally, it was time to receive the results. Ma Xiuli and Yu Shufang stood to the side while Ren Hongliang took the results from the window.

Yu Shufang tremblingly took the test report from her son’s hand. Being a doctor, she could understand the technical terms on it. As soon as she saw the results, her tears started rolling down uncontrollably.

Ma Xiuli hurriedly took a look at the report and immediately breathed a sigh of relief: ovarian function decline, but the uterine echo was still uniform.

The tumor had indeed shrunk, and it looked likely to have no further complications!

Who would have thought that in just one week, Beisitian managed to deliver on what she had promised, allowing Yu Shufang to escape the shadow of needing a hysterectomy and sparing her from making such a difficult decision!

Yu Shufang cried tears of joy, thinking that entering menopause early was a hundred times better than having her uterus removed!

Yu Shufang’s physical examination results were normal, and with the traditional medicine prescribed by Beisitian, her menopausal symptoms had significantly decreased. Although they couldn’t completely disappear, they were largely manageable.

The next day, Yu Shufang returned to work, accompanied by her son Ren Hongliang.

When the people in the office saw Yu Shufang at the door, they expressed joy and eagerly asked about her health and if she felt better.

Yu Shufang smiled and responded to each of them, then her gaze fell on Beisitian.

After exchanging greetings, they noticed Ren Hongliang, who followed behind her. Though they knew this young man well, they couldn’t help but notice the red scroll in his hands.

Upon entering, Ren Hongliang unfurled the scroll—a banner!

In those days, a banner or a commendation letter from patients was a great honor for a doctor, even warranting additional accolades from hospitals, surpassing gifts of food or money in significance.

Therefore, when everyone saw the banner, they were momentarily stunned, then each person’s expression changed upon reading it.

The banner read: Presented to Doctor Beisitian of the 118th Regiment’s Health Team.

With bold words in the center: Skilled Hands, Benevolent Heart!

The signature at the bottom: Ren Hongliang, October 1989.

Beisitian, having worked here for just over a week, had received a banner praising her exceptional medical skills!

This banner would temporarily hang in the third consultation room, no matter where Beisitian might be assigned in the future, it would go with her.

To say there was no envy would be false, but seeing Yu Shufang’s genuine and grateful expression, anyone could tell her gratitude was sincere.

Having known Yu Shufang for years, no one else had earned her heartfelt thanks; Beisitian managed to in just a week, something others couldn’t achieve even if they tried.

Beisitian accepted the banner openly, having treated without charging.

The reason, naturally, was her initial perception of having made a mistake, and having promised Doctor Sun to resolve the matter, she decided to handle it without mentioning consultation fees. Otherwise, as with Tian Lei’s case, she would have been straightforward about it.

Her treatment was essentially a house call, given that she wasn’t approached via the health team. Charging would still be legitimate, although house calls weren’t officially endorsed by the team.

Ding Sisi looked enviously at the banner, thinking that if it were hers, she would definitely secure her place here!

Zhang Meili sneered inwardly, ”It’s just a flimsy banner, yet it causes such a fuss!”

Zhang Hui Ping also displayed a sour expression. For Beisitian, a newcomer and intern medical assistant to receive such an honor, it would be surprising if the long-timers were pleased.

However, the disgruntled ones were mainly just these two, along with Ding Sisi.

Luo Jiali looked at Beisitian thoughtfully; initially thinking her awareness was lacking, but now considered that compared to her capability, this might not be a major flaw.

After more than a week of torment and psychological struggle, Yu Shufang returned to work at the health team.

No one discussed the new Traditional Chinese Medicine assistant anymore. Even if they wanted to gossip, it was done privately. If others overheard, they’d be even more irritated than the subjects of the gossip would be.

No one dared to call her ”Little Chinese Doctor” anymore. Ma Xiuli was vigilant every day, ready to confront anyone who tried!

Regarding skepticism about Traditional Chinese Medicine’s future or equating it with quackery, even with Yu Shufang’s past experience, some remained doubtful. Beisitian’s slight honor wouldn’t immediately change opinions on Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Beisitian understood this clearly and continued to advance steadily, one step at a time.

Tian Lei’s symptoms were more severe than those of the student Zhou Aihua had been. In just two or three days, he showed signs of coughing up blood.

Now, he couldn’t stay relaxed. The exhaustion caused by lack of sleep left him dispirited, and occasional low fevers had led to visible weight loss.

The Dendrobium and other medicinal herbs were delivered on the fifth day, already considered fast. The courier was a young man of about twenty-seven or twenty-eight.

He bore some resemblance to Tian Lei, but unlike Tian Lei’s delicate features, he was quite handsome and striking. With a height of six feet one inch, his tall, slender frame immediately captured the attention of many females and literature enthusiasts alike.

The young man entered the health team with a bag, explained his purpose, and was led to the third consultation room to find Shen Junping.

Upon entering the third consultation room, the young man’s gaze didn’t first fall on Shen Junping, who stood to greet him, but rather on Beisitian.
