I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 272: Chapter 271: Posing as the Disciple (Monthly Pass 1060+)

Beisitian knew a significant amount of time had passed and planned to speak with Luo Xudong first, knowing he must be waiting nearby.

After speaking with Du Kai Bo, Beisitian stepped out of the door, and Sun Wangnian discreetly followed suit.

As Beisitian walked near Shichahai, Luo Xudong appeared before her.

”How did it go?” Luo Xudong knew from her expression that she had succeeded.

”It’s not beyond treatment, but I need time,” Beisitian said.

Luo Xudong frowned, knowing entering meant being prepared for constant exposure, and he wasn’t willing for Beisitian to remain inside all the time.

”Xudong, listen to me, I must save the old man!” Beisitian gripped Luo Xudong’s hand and said.

Of course, Luo Xudong also wanted to save the man, but seeing Beisitian’s determined expression, he couldn’t help but ask, ”Why are you so persistent?”

His persistence might have some reasoning, but what about Beisitian’s reasons?

Just for the few interactions with the old man? That reasoning couldn’t hold water.

Beisitian’s eyes flickered slightly, and she lowered her head, saying, ”I can only say that the old man resembles someone extremely important to me, and for that, I must save him!”

Luo Xudong looked at her slightly upturned face, those beautiful eyes that fascinated him were filled with pleading, hoping he wouldn’t ask further.

He knew Beisitian didn’t want to lie to him and also knew she was someone with secrets. Since she didn’t want to speak, he didn’t want to force her either. He waited for the day she’d open up to him completely.

”I understand,” Luo Xudong replied.

But this identity was still a difficult issue.

”Well, well! Both of you are here!” a familiar voice called out.

They turned around and saw Sun Wangnian.

Beisitian’s expression slightly tensed, ”Director Sun.”

”Xiao Bei, you’re too bold! Do you know who those people are there? You dared to impersonate Tao Hailin’s apprentice!” Sun Wangnian said.

”I need to see the old man,” Beisitian declared.

If there was still some doubt before, Beisitian saying this was a tacit admission of her impersonation, making Sun Wangnian quite anxious.

”No, no, you should leave immediately. If you leave now, no one will find you. Once Doctor Tao’s real apprentice arrives and everyone is busy saving the old military chief, no one will be concerned about you. Just don’t go back!”

Doctor Tao’s real apprentice?

”Are you saying he really has an apprentice coming?” Beisitian asked.

Sun Wangnian widened his eyes, ”Of course, they’ll be here in a couple of days, and you happen to have run into it. You can pretend briefly, but when it comes to treatment, you can’t fake it. They are different from us, and different from traditional Chinese medicine!” Sun Wangnian emphasized.

Although it seemed Beisitian knew something about Mystic Doctors, to him, it appeared as trickery to deceive those people; the medicines they concocted were no different from clear water, something ordinary people couldn’t distinguish.

However, Beisitian did not focus on Sun Wangnian’s words, instead, she turned to Luo Xudong, ”Xudong, I’ll have to rely on you!”

Luo Xudong smiled indulgently, gently ruffling her hair. Since there was a real apprentice, it would be easier to manage.

Sun Wangnian talked for ages, yet the two hadn’t listened at all, making him agitated and he raised his voice, ”Don’t be ungrateful, Xiao Bei, I’m telling you, if you go again, I’ll expose you. Impersonating someone else’s apprentice not only delays treatment but also puts you in danger with no benefits. If you truly care for the old military chief, stop messing around!”

Beisitian smiled slightly upon hearing this. She knew Sun Wangnian meant well, and she developed a bit more affection for the kind-hearted Director Sun.

”Director Sun, I must go back; only I can save the old man!” Beisitian looked at Sun Wangnian with confidence in her eyes.

Even though it was a poison she hadn’t encountered, as long as it didn’t kill immediately, it couldn’t be considered highly toxic. As long as the person still had a breath, she was confident she could produce the talismanic water to counteract the poison!

Sun Wangnian saw that she wouldn’t listen at all, becoming anxious. Saying he’d expose her was just to scare her. When it came down to it, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

”Consider it an old man’s plea, please don’t cause trouble, okay?” Sun Wangnian smiled wryly.

”Director Sun, Sitiang knows what she’s doing,” Luo Xudong interjected. He didn’t want Sun Wangnian to become an obstacle, especially after finally getting inside.

Sun Wangnian displayed extreme helplessness, frowning deeply. Seeing the two left him speechless—no wonder they were a couple, both so stubborn!

In the end, having no choice, Sun Wangnian said, ”Let me just say this, if something happens, I’m not getting involved. As soon as Xiao Bei’s identity is exposed, I’ll be the first to kick her out of the health team. Don’t blame me for being heartless then.”

Sun Wangnian, feeling helpless, resolved to sever ties when the time came, not just for his sake but for the entire health team.

”Feel free to sever ties then!” Beisitian said with a smile.

Sun Wangnian rolled his eyes in frustration; nothing he said seemed to affect the girl.

”I’m done dealing with you, go ahead and do whatever you wish.” Sun Wangnian, unable to handle it anymore, turned away and left, afraid he might burst with anger if he stayed.

Watching Sun Wangnian leave, the two exchanged smiles. Luo Xudong said, ”Rest assured, the military chief mentioned that Sun Wangnian is inherently sincere. Since he’s said this, he won’t spill the beans. I’ll find a way to locate the real apprentice, to buy as much time as needed. We’ll keep in touch and if anything goes wrong, you promise me to leave immediately!”

Luo Xudong rarely spoke so much; this time he was genuinely worried since this wasn’t a trivial matter.

Beisitian agreed and turned back.

Entering the red lacquer door, everyone still looked at her with hopeful eyes. Apparently, Sun Wangnian hadn’t said anything.

Beisitian stood still in front of Wu Yuekai’s bed, quietly observing him.

Du Kai Bo initially had many questions, but seeing this, he held back and signaled to Ma Yuan, who nodded in understanding.

Du Kai Bo left temporarily with his team, leaving Ma Yuan behind.

”Comrade Xiao Bei, do you need to rest for a bit?” Ma Yuan asked.

She had stood there motionless for twenty minutes, hardly blinking, causing Ma Yuan to grow concerned.

Beisitian seemed not to hear at all, only focused on observing Wu Yuekai, not moving.

Seeing this, Ma Yuan didn’t say much either and sat down beside her, afraid she’d faint if she kept standing.

”When the teacher first fell into a coma, did he have any symptoms?”

After a while, just when Ma Yuan thought she had fallen asleep standing up, Beisitian spoke.

Ma Yuan quickly nodded, ”Yes, his consciousness was sometimes clear, sometimes muddled. His memory seemed somewhat confused, and he often said things that others couldn’t understand.”

Things others couldn’t understand?
