I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 294: Chapter 293: Allow Me to Listen

Mr. Zhang Aimin said his son’s condition was much better, he even woke up once last night, but he’s still very weak, sleeps a lot, and is awake less.

”This is normal. When he wakes up, give him some porridge. Crush the herbs I gave you and simmer them in the porridge a bit longer on low heat. I’ll give you some more medicine in a couple of days, but you need to prepare the ingredients yourselves,” Beisitian said.

Upon hearing Beisitian’s words, Mr. Zhang and his wife exchanged a glance and finally felt relieved, repeatedly saying there was no problem.

When their son woke up that day, they thanked Beisitian and the heavens. Without Beisitian, their son would be gone by now, and without the heavens, they wouldn’t have met Beisitian.

Mr. Zhang regretted his attitude towards Beisitian that day. If he had listened to her, he wouldn’t have gone through such a heart-wrenching experience.

No one expected that what Beisitian casually mentioned as a check-up would turn out to be such a serious illness. If this were in a hospital, he would certainly be in the ICU, and given Anding City’s conditions, the outcome might have been quite bleak.

”Doctor Bei, are you planning to use the piano?” Mr. Zhang Aimin asked.

”Yes, but a piano alone isn’t enough. Does Mr. Zhang know anyone who can lease ancient musical instruments?” Beisitian actually didn’t hold much hope, as peers tend to be rivals.

”I do. My brother sells ancient musical instruments and is very passionate about them. Which instrument does Doctor Bei need?” Mr. Zhang inquired.

”A xiao and a recorder.”

”No problem, we have both!” Mr. Zhang nodded repeatedly.

He was particularly eager to make up for the incident that day, thinking about how his words had kept Beisitian out, yet she still saved his son without holding any grudges and almost fainted in the process. His heart was full of guilt!

Tian Lei and Luo Jiali were also overjoyed upon hearing this, never expecting to easily get both a piano and ancient musical instruments.

”Doctor Bei, my brother has a practice room for his own use. He said you can use it anytime!” Mr. Zhang was now eager to arrange everything.

”Great, about the cost...”

Before Beisitian could finish her sentence, Mr. Zhang shot up, ”Doctor Bei, please don’t mention the cost. I already felt terrible for rejecting you last time, and now if you bring up the cost, I’d have no face left!”

Beisitian showed a faint smile but made a grimace in her heart. She was actually going to ask for a little discount, but it seemed now she wouldn’t have to pay anything.

After discussing the child’s illness and the borrowing of instruments, Mr. Zhang and his wife prepared to leave. Currently, the child was being watched by his eldest sister-in-law, which couldn’t last too long.

Once they left, the enthusiastic discussion at the medical team didn’t cease. Beisitian had only been there for a short time and wasn’t even a permanent staff member, yet had already received three banners of commendation, one even sent by Liu Yiming, the Liu Jun Commander.

Liu Jun Commander was known for his integrity and detestation for corruption. With his banner, those outside who didn’t understand, and some who believed the rumors that Beisitian was self-aggrandizing, all quieted down.

Ding Sisi didn’t even have the energy to be jealous anymore; she was just furious that those three actually got to use the instruments!

Due to time constraints, the three of them went to Mr. Zhang’s brother, Zhang Guimin, as soon as they got off work.

Zhang Guimin was indeed a lover of ancient musical instruments; he had interacted with the guzheng, flute, and xiao, and was quite proficient with the flute and xiao.

This practice room was certainly not comparable to the art troupe’s, usually used only by Zhang Guimin himself. The soundproofing was excellent, ensuring no disturbance to the neighbors.

Zhang Guimin wasn’t very tall, nor particularly striking, but he and Mr. Zhang Aimin were obviously brothers. However, with crescent moon eyes, every smile would bend his eyes into crescents, and being naturally cheerful, he gave off a Maitreya Buddha-like vibe.

”Thank you, Mr. Zhang,” Beisitian said with a smile.

Both Mr. Zhang Aimin and Mr. Zhang Guimin waved their hands, saying it was no trouble at all. Knowing Beisitian needed it urgently, he even had someone bring the piano over and personally tuned it, ready for use.

Mr. Zhang Aimin had been looking forward to their visit. Usually, he played alone, but now, having three young military doctors join for ensemble made him very happy.

However, the three of them developed a compulsion when it came to song selection. Although Beisitian didn’t mind, both songs were unfamiliar to her.

”Trust me, singing ’The Moon Represents My Heart’ is the best choice; it’s all the rage right now!” Tian Lei said.

Luo Jiali shook her head, ”I want to sing ’Small Town Story,’ that graceful feeling is so appealing.”

Tian Lei smirked, ”Not to be rude, but you’re so androgynous, what do you need grace for!”

Luo Jiali frowned, glaring at Tian Lei, ”You’re not worried you can’t bring out the feel of ’Small Town Story’ with piano, are you?”

This song is usually played with an erhu and other instruments, though there are piano solos available. Not a difficult task, just that Tian Lei’s words were too annoying!

Seeing they were about to start fighting again, Beisitian made a time-out gesture, ”Let me listen to the two songs first, okay?”

Although Tian Lei and Luo Jiali were used to Beisitian’s bombshell statements, they still looked at her with puzzled expressions, even Zhang Guimin was surprised when he glanced at her.

How could she have never heard the hit song of a generation of red song queens?

’The Moon Represents My Heart’ had been translated into various languages. Even if Beisitian had returned from abroad, it seemed impossible she hadn’t heard it at all.

With a calm look facing their ’where did you come from’ expressions, Beisitian said, ”The tape, please.”

Luo Jiali handed her the tape and watched as she placed it into the recorder and started playing it, glancing at Tian Lei.

After listening to both songs, Beisitian fell into thought.

Both songs were indeed very pleasant, somewhat differing in style, but both extraordinarily sweet.

’The Moon,’ with its simplicity and charm, had catchy lyrics, while ’Small Town’ showcased the Jiangnan water town style, with vivid imagery, graceful melody, and a distinct fusion of classical and modern styles.

Beisitian felt that ’Small Town’ might be more suitable.

If the erhu was replaced with a piano, it would bring a significantly different feel, and if it were this song, she’d opt for the flute.

This way, replacing the erhu with a piano wouldn’t greatly diminish the classical style.

Zhang Guimin watched from the side, feeling that Beisitian would likely choose ’Small Town,’ as they aimed to perform with a varied style and this choice seemed more fitting.
