I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 295: Chapter 294: Asking a Favor for a Dog

Beisitian cast a vote for Luo Jiali, and in the end, they chose ”Small Town Story” by two to one.

”Small Town Story is good; I actually always thought it’s good.” Tian Lei shamelessly changed his stance because Beisitian picked it.

Luo Jiali snorted twice, not only dumb but also shameless.

”What’s there to snort about!” Tian Lei glared at her without good humor.

Zhang Guimin watched from the side and secretly asked Beisitian, ”Are those two dating?”

Beisitian shook her head, ”No, but it might not be long now.”

”I think so too; fighting means affection, scolding means love,” Zhang Guimin nodded repeatedly while watching the two. ”Speaking of which, I have the piano score for this song, do you want it?”

After saying that, he raised an eyebrow at Beisitian, with a smile on his lips, clearly having prepared it for them already.

Upon finding out, Tian Lei was pleasantly surprised, saving him a search for it.

”This song also has a flute accompaniment; I’ll help you find it these days,” Zhang Guimin said with a smile.

”Why are you helping us like this?” Beisitian couldn’t help but feel curious.

Zhang Guimin’s eyes curved again, ”I’m curious to see how your collaboration turns out. Besides, it’s no trouble for me, and more importantly, you saved my little nephew; this is nothing.”

Beisitian smiled slightly.

The first collaboration did not go as expected, a bit neither traditional nor modern, even Zhang Guimin shook his head while listening beside them, giving many useful suggestions.

The first day’s practice did not go smoothly.

As time was getting late, the three went back to the troops together. As they were leaving, Zhang Guimin said, ”Doctor Bei, my brother and I asked around, hoping to get Xiao Ran into your medical squad for you to keep an eye on, so we can also be at ease. Otherwise, those two don’t dare close their eyes at night, afraid of checking on their child and finding him unresponsive again.”

Both brothers know the medical team has good conditions, and for a child in this state, once admitted, the child will be monitored with equipment, allowing the doctor on duty to quickly detect any issues and take timely action.

They can’t bear another blow.

”As long as you can get him admitted, I will certainly treat him well,” Beisitian assured.

For non-military personnel to get into the medical squad, it’s difficult without connections.

This is something Beisitian need not worry about. Whether the person is admitted or not, she will help this obedient and lovable child improve his health.

Sometimes, just one glance can forge a bond, and this child’s soft ’Goodbye Auntie’ warmed her heart; she truly can’t bear seeing such a child leaving this world early.

Back at the dormitory, arriving on the first floor and seeing the phone, Beisitian decided to call Wu Yuekai.

”Comrade Xiao Li, it’s me, please transfer the call to the old man.” Beisitian heard the voice of Li Xuejun over the receiver.

Soon, Wu Yuekai’s voice came through.

”Finally remembered to call me?” Wu Yuekai’s tone carried dissatisfaction.

After he woke up, he had been waiting for Beisitian’s call but never received it. He thought maybe the lass didn’t know he was awake, and sent Sun Wangnian back right away. But even after Sun Wangnian arrived, there was still no call from Beisitian.

Hearing Wu Yuekai’s playful tone, Beisitian was momentarily stunned. This tone was quite familiar; her master’s character sometimes seemed like a playful old child, yet evoked deep contemplation at other times.

Acting spontaneously, with a bad temper, yet he was always kind to Beisitian, his only disciple, sometimes even throwing tantrums, making him seem quite quirky to outsiders.

Despite this, the life lessons that the master would often share benefited her greatly, some of which she only understood after reaching a ripe old age.

That previous tone made her instinctively feel like she was conversing with her master.

Realizing the silence on the other end of the line, Wu Yuekai bitterly smiled. Since waking up, he constantly felt different, dreaming of peculiar things from blurry dreams.

These dreams were somewhat absurd, appearing as if he and the lass were adventuring through the world—those four words made him want to laugh, but in the dream, it felt quite real.

Though they seemed capable, it felt like only the two of them were left wandering the world, relying on each other with no settled place or desire to settle, unsure of where wanderings would end.

The dreams felt very real, yet waking up left a foggy memory, remembering only bits even if trying hard to recollect.

However, the biggest change was his feelings towards Beisitian.

Previously, his fondness for her stemmed partly from Luo Xudong and partly from her talent and skills; but now, there’s a deep affection and care like never before.

Now even Luo Xudong takes a back seat!

”I know you’re alright now,” Beisitian said.

”Hmph, being alright means there’s no need to care?”

Wu Yuekai didn’t actually want to say those words, but hearing Beisitian’s voice made him say it unconsciously.

”Alright, old man, stop messing around; I’ve got business to discuss,” Beisitian held back a curious feeling, steering the conversation back.

Wu Yuekai was speechless; this little girl was talking to him like this, yet he didn’t feel angry!

”Go on, what’s the matter.”

”I want to keep a dog.”

”... Is this the serious matter you’re talking about?” Wu Yuekai’s face darkened.

”Yes, I want to bring Zhuangzhuang to the troops; please help me think of a way.” Beisitian’s tone carried a hint of request.

After contemplating, seeking the old man’s help was the only option.

Wu Yuekai couldn’t help but laugh; this girl wasn’t seeking money, power, or fame but was actually seeking him for a dog!

”You know keeping a dog in the family courtyard could cause a lot of trouble.” Wu Yuekai said.

”I’ll take good care of Zhuangzhuang; please help me.” Beisitian glanced at Uncle Wang, noticing his stern expression.

”Alright, alright, I’ll find a way; by the way, I heard you’re putting on a performance for the Spring Festival Gala?” Wu Yuekai asked, laughing.

”Yes, playing the flute; are you going to come cheer me on?” Beisitian relaxed upon hearing Wu Yuekai’s promise to help, feeling much better.

”I might really show up; there might be a pre-year checkup for the visiting officials with the current staff. If that’s confirmed, it’ll happen before the Gala, followed by attending it after the checkup.”

Beisitian felt a rush of joy upon hearing Wu Yuekai might come; it was evident even over the phone, making laughter inevitable.

Setting the phone aside, Beisitian hurried back to the dorm before Uncle Wang could voice his disapproval of keeping a dog. Upon returning, Luo Xudong was already back, leaning lightly against the back of the chair with his long legs naturally supporting him; his entire demeanor was relaxed.

Seeing Luo Xudong like this indicated he must have had a tiring day.
