I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 258: Chapter 257: Taking Care

”No need, you can go,” Chai Xiaohu didn’t even glance at Li Ying.

Li Ying kept shaking her head, and seeing that Chai Xiaohu was unwilling to talk to her, she turned to Beisitian, ”Sister-in-law, just tell me what I need to do. From today onwards, I’ll be here to take care of Sister Chai.”

Beisitian looked at Li Ying’s earnest expression and said, ”Her ligament sprain is best treated with bed rest, and her ribs need to heal with as little movement as possible. Basically, she needs help with eating, drinking, and other daily activities.”

Li Ying nodded quickly, ”No problem, I can do all this!”

Chai Xiaohu looked at the ceiling without speaking.

”By the way, sister-in-law, I heard from the nurse that cold compresses are still needed, right? I’ll give Sister Chai a cold compress now.” Li Ying rolled up her sleeves, ready to ask the nurse for an ice pack.

”It’s time for hot compresses now, fifteen to twenty minutes each time, and after that, rub the foot with Zhenggu Water,” Beisitian said.

Initially, cold compresses were used to relieve pain and swelling. After twenty-four hours, hot compresses are needed to promote blood circulation and aid in healing.

”Is it really not possible to give me a steroid injection?” Chai Xiaohu asked unwillingly for the last time.

Beisitian remained silent. Chai Xiaohu requested a steroid injection as soon as she woke up, but Shen Junping directly refused.

It was later that Beisitian learned that a steroid injection provides temporary pain relief and has anti-inflammatory effects. If it were just a foot ligament sprain, it might have been administered. However, since her ribs had two fractures, even with a steroid injection, she wouldn’t be able to perform!

Therefore, there was no point in administering a steroid injection, especially since it contains hormones and a small amount of morphine, which should be avoided if possible due to the significant side effects on the body!

”Doctor Shen should have explained it to you already, even with a steroid injection, rib fractures won’t allow you to perform,” Beisitian said.

”You could give me a pain relief injection!” Chai Xiaohu showed a look of longing.

”Even with a pain relief injection, it doesn’t mean your bones will heal. Coughing can worsen your condition, let alone singing!” Beisitian frowned.

Opportunities, no matter how important, require one to be alive to achieve them!

Chai Xiaohu’s expression turned gray and defeated again. She knew that forcibly performing could worsen her rib fractures, potentially affecting her singing quality. In that case, even if she got on stage, it would be a failure.

Li Ying stood beside her, looking apologetic and not knowing what to say.

Having explained everything, Beisitian prepared to leave, as the matters between Chai Xiaohu and Li Ying had nothing to do with her.

Chai Xiaohu’s fracture wasn’t too serious; there was a crack in the bone. With proper chest stabilization and rest, the bone could generally heal in two to four weeks.

That was actually quite fast, but unfortunately, the new soldier welcome party was only five days away, making the time seem longer by comparison.

Back in the consultation room, Shen Junping asked Beisitian, ”Is Xiaohu still the same?”

Beisitian nodded, ”That girl Li Ying came over saying she wants to take care of her.”

Shen Junping nodded at this, while Ma Xiuli, who came over to visit, raised her eyebrows and said, ”Li Ying enlisted two years ago. In terms of looks, no one in the Art Troupe compares to her, though none match our Doctor Xiao Bei.”

Ma Xiuli giggled at Beisitian and continued, ”But she’s quite talented, proficient in singing, dancing, and various musical styles, including Guzheng and flute. I’ve heard she can also play the pipa. In terms of singing, only Chai Xiaohu surpasses her. If it weren’t for Chai Xiaohu, Li Ying would not just be the top talent in the Art Troupe, but also might represent in big competitions and even perform at the CCTV gala.”

Shen Junping shook his head at her, ”Don’t speculate wildly; these are the Art Troupe’s matters. Our job is to treat illnesses.”

Ma Xiuli swayed her head with her arms crossed, ”I have sharp eyes. If Chai Xiaohu steps down, only she is qualified to replace her in the troupe!”

”Alright, hurry back to your consultation room. You can’t have no patients that way!” Yu Shufang gave her a playful glare.

Ma Xiuli pouted and reluctantly went back.

When Director Sun was here, the first consultation room was lively. Now, she’s all alone, with not even someone to chat with!

Tian Lei put on a frightened look; the Art Troupe’s depths are indeed daunting, and too many women can be truly terrifying!

Li Ying stopped attending Art Troupe rehearsals and stayed day and night at the hospital to take care of Chai Xiaohu, though Chai Xiaohu remained cold and indifferent.

On the upper floor, the nurse Jiang Xiaoyu and Tao Tao were whispering.

”I think Sister Li Ying is quite nice. I saw it with my own eyes. Sister Li Ying fed her one bite at a time, and even when Chai Xiaohu threw a tantrum, she didn’t utter a word. Instead, it seems like Chai Xiaohu is a bit excessive. It’s not like it was intentional. With such dedication, she should be forgiven,” Jiang Xiaoyu said, feeling sorry for Li Ying.

Tao Tao listened with great interest. Gossiping together seemed to deepen their friendship, and after all, she loved hearing gossip.

Although the season changed this year, it didn’t result in the two-month-long overcrowding at the health team as it did last year. This year, just a bit more people came than usual, so the health team could spend their days leisurely.

Some enjoyed such leisurely days, while others felt like it was a waste of time and life.

The third consultation room remained unexpectedly harmonious. Tian Lei came with dreams, but he was also happy during his leisure moments.

Every time a new patient came, the Medical Assistant would inquire and assess, with their supervising doctor listening and observing. Any mistakes would be immediately corrected.

Tian Lei thought fewer patients were better for asking more detailed questions and making more accurate diagnoses.

Beisitian was the only one who never seemed worried; if she judged someone to have a problem, they’d probably be taken straight to the examination room.

Beisitian got along very well with Qi Xiu Hui; whenever Qi Xiu Hui encountered problems, she would consult Beisitian and always get the answers she needed.

Beisitian would also ask Qi Xiu Hui about surgical problems and was amazed to discover that Qi Xiu Hui’s medical knowledge was incredibly solid. Even Shen Junping would occasionally consult her, and she could always provide answers.

Qi Xiu Hui’s knowledge wasn’t empty but was based on extensive real-world experience. Why did someone like her have such a low status in the health team?

Although curious, Beisitian wouldn’t rashly inquire into someone’s personal business.

At noon, the third consultation room, including Ma Xiuli, went to the canteen for lunch together.

The site had three canteens in total, with the one in the Twenty-eighth Regiment being the closest to them, so they typically went there to eat.

”Doctor Xiao Bei is always so happy when it’s time to eat,” Ma Xiuli looked up at the sky, ”making us singles wonder how to live! I feel so sad I could eat several more bowls of rice.”
