I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 269: Chapter 268: A Way to Get In

Soon, eight dishes and a soup were served, with chicken, duck, fish, and meat, accompanied by some side dishes, and a bottle of white liquor for the two men. In addition, there were two bottles of blackcurrant and a bottle of Beibingyang for the two women and the child.

”Beibei, come eat.” Shao Simin said, then realized, ”I forgot again, my child has changed names.” After saying this, she glanced at Beisitian.

Ever since she found out Beisitian married Luo Xuhua, her child’s nickname was forcibly changed by Luo Xuhua. He said a child’s name shouldn’t contain a character from an elder, even though when their child was named, Beisitian didn’t even know where she was. Despite the tradition, there should be some precedence.

But this thought stayed in Shao Simin’s mind. Even though she was displeased, she knew Luo Xuhua made sense, and she couldn’t argue against it openly.

Luckily, it was just a nickname. If they had to change the official name, they would have to deal with the public security bureau, which would be even more troublesome.

Beisitian noticed the hint of dissatisfaction in Shao Simin’s eyes but saw it quickly subdued, accompanied by a smile on her face.

”Luo Jiacheng, come eat now,” Luo Xuhua shouted.

Shao Simin scolded, ”Don’t yell at the child.”

Luo Xuhua laughed and said, ”That boy is probably in the room doing who knows what. Maybe he’s reading comic books again. If you don’t shout for him, how would he hear?”

Shao Simin pursed her lips, smiled, and gave him a glare.

This couple seemed to have a good relationship.

”Let’s not worry about that boy. Come on, let’s eat. It’s Xudong and Sitiang’s first time at our home, please forgive any lack in our hospitality.” Shao Simin raised her glass and stood up to say.

Luo Xuhua was very satisfied with Shao Simin’s behavior and stood up too, ”I have only one brother. Although we are not from the same parents, it’s no different. We brothers must look out for each other out there!”

Luo Xudong smiled faintly, ”Thank you for your hospitality, Sister-in-law.” Afterward, he and Luo Xuhua drank together.

Beisitian also took a sip of her drink with Shao Simin, and they sat down.

”Eat more,” Shao Simin warmly said to Beisitian, constantly serving her food, but all were large chunks of meat and fish.

Beisitian wasn’t used to these oily foods, so she gave Shao Simin a gentle smile, ”Sister-in-law, don’t worry about me. I’ll serve myself.”

Shao Simin nodded. Although she felt Beisitian was just being polite, she couldn’t keep serving her, so she stopped.

”Sitiang, are you getting used to living with Xudong in the army?” Shao Simin, who was considerably older than Beisitian, around twenty-seven or eight, and the same age as Luo Xuhua, asked.

”I’m used to it,” Beisitian replied with a polite smile.

”That’s good. I heard the army life is quite tough. You can come to your big brother’s place in Beijing when you visit next time,” Shao Simin said with a smile.

Beisitian nodded. From the looks of it, Shao Simin was a decent person who spoke and acted appropriately. You could tell that her inner feelings might not be as enthusiastic as she showed, but she kept up appearances well.

Shao Simin often sized up Beisitian. Wasn’t it said Luo Xudong married someone from the countryside? Beisitian didn’t look or act like someone from the countryside at all. Shao Simin almost thought Luo Xudong temporarily found a city wife.

It wasn’t mainly about the appearance or attire, but her demeanor. At first, Shao Simin thought Beisitian’s quietness was due to her feeling restrained, coming from a mountainous area to a big city, surely overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle.

But watching Beisitian, although she was curious, she didn’t seem overwhelmed, nor did she have the vibe of a country bumpkin in the city.

Beisitian carried a serene and poised demeanor, and after chatting with her for a bit, Shao Simin realized Beisitian’s knowledge was not inferior to hers.

She definitely wasn’t a clueless country girl from a rural area.

With this realization, Shao Simin slightly adjusted her attitude, showing more genuine warmth toward Beisitian, not just for Luo Xuhua’s sake.

Halfway through the meal, they heard the bedroom door open, and a chubby little boy, around eight or nine, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, came out looking adorable.

Seeing Luo Xudong and Beisitian, he first observed them, then smiled broadly and greeted, ”Hello, Brother and Sister~”

His parents had taught him to be polite, and to greet guests at home.

Shao Simin heard her son greet so politely and called them like that, almost couldn’t help but laugh, and affectionately patted his head, ”What Brother and Sister, say Uncle and Aunt!”

Uncle and Aunt?

Luo Jiacheng looked at the two, bewildered. The title ’Uncle and Aunt’ seemed to be for people who looked much older and less attractive. But the Brother and Sister, oh no, Uncle and Aunt in front of him were clearly good-looking, especially the Sister, oh no, Aunt...

So conflicted...

The little guy’s round face scrunched up, clearly struggling internally.

Beisitian saw the little guy’s innocent and adorable expression and liked him immediately, while also feeling a sour twinge in her heart. Ping’an was younger but already sensible enough to help at home, the saying, ”Children in poor families grow up quickly,” was indeed true.

Beisitian left her seat to squat in front of the little guy, her smile warm, and took out a small red envelope for the little guy.

”Is it Xiao Jiacheng? Come sit by Auntie,” Beisitian said with a cheerful smile, leading Luo Jiacheng to the table.

”Thank Auntie for the red envelope!” Luo Xuhua said, smiling.

Giving a red envelope at the first meeting is a sign of courtesy and decency.

Seeing this, Shao Simin’s smile became more genuine. Usually, red envelopes for children were five or ten yuan, which was fine in Beijing, but quite a lot in the countryside. This girl knew to give a little gift to the child, showing she was considerate.

The value of a gift lies in the thought, not the price.

”Auntie, my dad says you’re a doctor. Can you teach me?” The little guy asked cutely at the dinner table.

”Does Xiao Jiacheng want to be a doctor?” Beisitian asked with a smile.

”Yes, yes, my mom’s back is bad, and my dad often complains of discomfort. If I learn how to treat illnesses, I can keep them healthy.” The little guy said seriously, touching the couple deeply.

”To learn medicine from me, you’ll need to acknowledge me as a teacher...” Beisitian started to say and paused with a sudden brightening of eyes.

She figured out a way!

”Xiao Jiacheng, you’re a little lucky star, aren’t you? When you grow a bit older, if you really want to learn, Auntie will teach you~” Beisitian promised, excited, with a commitment that would impact Luo Jiacheng’s life.

With a plan in mind, Beisitian was all smiles. By a little after eight, the two of them were ready to leave.

Luo Xuhua wanted to see them off, but Luo Xudong declined, saying they planned to take a little stroll.

Shao Simin understood. Coming from the countryside to Beijing, of course, they should take a proper look around.
