Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

Chapter 79: The initial R&D investment for the Type 80 tank was only 2?Chapter 79: The initial R&D investment for the Type 80 tank was only million?

As soon as Lin Chenran stepped into the office of 077 Mechanical Arsenal, Mr. Zhu followed in impatiently.

”Mr. Zhu, you are...”

Lin Chenran looked at Mr. Zhu in surprise.

Mr. Zhu looked exhausted, but his eyes revealed a hint of excitement and anticipation.

”Chenran, did you really get a 760-horsepower four-stroke V-12-cylinder V-46 diesel engine?”

Mr. Zhu asked anxiously, his voice a little hoarse, obviously he had just experienced a long journey.

Lin Chenran was slightly stunned, then he understood why Mr. Zhu came.

It turned out that Mr. Zhu learned that the 077 Mechanical Military Factory had reached a cooperation with the Ural Locomotive and Rolling Stock Plant Design Bureau and spent 760 million US dollars to purchase the 12-horsepower four-stroke V-46-cylinder V- diesel engine technology and production line.

Mr. Zhu hurried over from the 617 Mechanical Arsenal, hoping that their Type 80 tanks could also use this advanced engine.

”Mr. Zhu, we have indeed successfully purchased this tank technology.”

Lin Chenran replied with a smile, his tone full of confidence.

Zhu Lao’s eyes flashed with surprise, and he quickly asked: ”Have you ever considered applying this technology to other tank models? For example, our Type 80 tank!”

Lin Chenran thought for a moment and nodded in agreement: ”Of course I have considered it, but the engine needs further research and improvement to ensure that it can adapt to different tank models.”

Mr. Zhu nodded with satisfaction, a gratified smile on his face.

Although this tank engine technology is relatively backward in the hands of the Russian Bear.

But in Yan Country, it is extremely powerful.

Currently, Yan State does not have such powerful tank engine technology.

The introduction of the 760-horsepower four-stroke V-12 V-46 diesel engine directly filled this gap.

In fact, at first, Mr. Zhu was not very willing to come to the 077 Mechanical Arsenal.

077 Machinery and Military Factory is a competitor of 617 Machinery and Military Factory.

The Apocalypse tank and the Type 80 tank are competitors, but the Yan State military chose the Type 80 tank instead of the Apocalypse tank.

One of the important reasons is that the Apocalypse Tank is expensive, but there is another key factor - the Apocalypse Tank engine problem.

The engine problem has now been resolved.

When comparing the two tanks together, it can be found that the Type 80 tank is far behind the Apocalypse tank in all aspects except firepower.

因此，在617机械军工厂高层的暗示之下，祝老不得不厚着脸皮来到临江省的077机械军工厂，与林宸然商讨是否能将760匹马力的四冲程V型12缸V-46柴油发动机安装到80式坦克上。

Mr. Zhu scratched his head in embarrassment. He knew that what he did was a little unkind, but he had no choice.

”well”

Mr. Zhu sighed deeply, he felt very guilty.

Lin Chenran saw the difficulty of Mr. Zhu, he waved his hand and said indifferently: ”Mr. Zhu, it’s okay, everything is for the country! I understand your difficulties, don’t worry too much.”

Then, Lin Chenran joked, ”Even if we build the Apocalypse tank, the military will have to split it into multiple copies for every penny they spend. They don’t have the funds to purchase our 077 Machinery Military Factory’s second-generation main battle tanks on a large scale.”

”The Type 617 tanks produced by your 80 Mechanical Arms Factory fully meet the needs of the military.”

There are many reasons for this. The first is that it is cheap; secondly, the performance of this tank is quite good; the last and most important point is that this tank has been blessed by Mr. Zhu.

Therefore, the Yan country’s military is of course happy to purchase it!

They do not have a lot of military funds to support the development of more advanced weapons and equipment, and their country has a vast territory to defend. Therefore, they chose the more cost-effective Type 80 tank as a transitional equipment.

When Mr. Zhu heard this, his face turned slightly red.

There’s nothing we can do, since what Lin Chenran said is true.

The 617 Machinery Arsenal really ”picked up a dead chicken”.

Seeing Mr. Zhu’s reaction, Lin Chenran quickly covered his mouth and explained: ”Mr. Zhu, I didn’t say anything, and you didn’t hear anything.”

He began to completely deny what he had said before.

Mr. Zhu directly interrupted Lin Chenran’s “antics”.

In fact, Mr. Zhu had two purposes for coming to the 077 Mechanical Arsenal this time.

首先，他想向林宸然了解一下情况：760匹马力的四冲程V型12缸V-46柴油发动机是否可以出售给617机械军工厂，并应用于80式坦克？
The final result made Mr. Zhu very satisfied.

Because Lin Chenran agreed to provide this powerful engine to the 617 Mechanical Military Factory to equip their Type 80 tanks.

Mr. Zhu’s second task is related to exporting arms overseas.

In fact, not only the top management of the 617 Mechanical Military Factory, but all the third-line military factories in Yan Country envied and longed for the successful arms sales of the 077 Mechanical Military Factory.

This envy became even stronger when he learned that the 077 Mechanical Arsenal had reached a cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia in the Camel region.

Although the specific amount of cooperation is still unclear, when people mention the Saudi Arabia in the Camel Region, they know that this cooperation must involve huge amounts of money.

After all, the phrase ”I am the richest man in the world with only a piece of cloth on my head” is not just empty talk.

”Mr. Zhu, your 617 Machinery Military Factory is the top tank manufacturer in the country, you should not be short of orders!”

Lin Chenran looked at Mr. Zhu and asked with a puzzled look on his face.

Although the military budget cuts of the Yan State military have led to a decrease in arms orders, the 617 Mechanical Military Factory, as a long-established tank manufacturer in Yan State, should not be short of orders!
After all, with Mr. Zhu’s status and ability, it should be easy for him to get these orders.

Thinking of this, Lin Chenran couldn’t help but sigh: ”With Master Zhu here, everything will be easy!”

After hearing what Lin Chenran said, Mr. Zhu shook his head with a smile and said, ”Little Lin, do you think so too?”

Lin Chenran nodded and replied as a matter of course: ”That’s right, there are only a few major tank manufacturers in the country.”

He thought to himself that large factories have their own advantages. With advanced technology, excellent design teams and good reputation, most of the domestic tank orders would be monopolized by large factories like the 617 Mechanical Arsenal.

However, Mr. Zhu suddenly laughed, his laughter was hearty and heroic. He then said, ”Lin, you should know that even if our 617 Machinery Military Factory wins the bid for the military’s second-generation main battle tank, we can only get an initial investment of million from the military.”

After saying that, Mr. Zhu quietly observed Lin Chenran’s reaction, with a smile and expectation flashing in his eyes.

When Lin Chenran heard the news, he was shocked for a moment, his eyes widened, and he asked in disbelief: ”What?”

Lin Chenran raised his voice by eight degrees and asked, ”Only 20 million in the early stage?”

His eyes were full of confusion and shock as he looked at Mr. Zhu, not believing what the other person said!
”US dollars or Yanbi?” Lin Chenran asked immediately, with a nervous look on his face.

If it was US dollars, it would be barely acceptable, but if it was Yanbi, it would be too much.

Although the Type 80 tank is not the best among the second-generation main battle tanks, it is hard to accept that only million was allocated for its research and development in the early stage.

”What do you say?”

Mr. Zhu asked directly.
