Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

Chapter 77: Small Caliber or Large Caliber Smoothbore CannonChapter 77: Small Caliber or Large Caliber Smoothbore Cannon

Lin Chenran fell into deep thought, carefully weighing the pros and cons.

He knew very well that now was not the best time to accept the offer.

Being targeted by the KGB is no joke.

Even if the 077 Mechanical Arsenal successfully signed a contract with the Ural Locomotive and Rolling Stock Plant Design Bureau.

But as long as they can find an excuse, such as selling out national interests, they can easily cut off the connection between the two factories.

As a result, the Ural Locomotive and Rolling Stock Plant Design Bureau will not be able to provide the 077 Mechanical Military Factory with the technology and production line for the 760-horsepower four-stroke V-12-cylinder V-46 diesel engine.

For the 077 Mechanical Arsenal, this will undoubtedly bring huge losses.

Therefore, Lin Chenran rejected Mr. Lin’s proposal without hesitation.

If they want to obtain relevant technology and production lines from the Russian bear through Lin Chenran, they must wait until the 077 Mechanical Military Factory brings back all the 760-horsepower four-stroke V-type 12-cylinder V-46 diesel engine technology and related production lines.

Before that, Lin Chenran would naturally firmly reject any proposal that might affect the realization of this goal.

Because only by ensuring that everything is foolproof can we ensure that the 077 Mechanical Arsenal will not suffer any interference or loss.

As the director of the 077 Mechanical Military Factory, Lin Chenran must first ensure that his own factory is not affected. This is his top priority.

He will consider other matters only after ensuring the interests of the 077 Mechanical Arsenal.

After listening to Lin Chenran’s explanation, Mr. Lin showed some regret on his face, but also expressed understanding.

He was very pleased that Lin Chenran was able to stick to his principles and put the overall situation first.

This 760-horsepower four-stroke V-12 V-46 diesel engine is not only related to the Apocalypse Tank project of the 077 Mechanical Arsenal.

It is also related to the improvement of the tank engine technology level of the entire Yan Country.

When Lin Chenran saw the disappointment on Grandpa Lin’s face, his heart softened.

He knew that the old man had devoted his entire life to the country and his love and concern for his motherland were beyond words.

So he whispered to comfort him: ”Grandpa, don’t worry, I will go to the Russian bear again after our 077 Mechanical Military Factory successfully introduces the 760 horsepower four-stroke V-12 cylinder V-46 diesel engine into China.”

”I will do my best to contribute to the development of the country.”

Hearing Lin Chenran’s sincere words, Mr. Lin’s mood immediately improved a lot.

There was a gleam of relief in his eyes, the corners of his mouth rose slightly, and he smiled happily.

He praised Lin Chenran again and again.

Lin Chenran scratched his head and smiled foolishly.

Mr. Lin turned to look at Lin Chenran, his eyes becoming serious and focused: ”I heard that your 077 Mechanical Military Factory has signed a contract with the Ural Locomotive and Rolling Stock Plant Design Bureau. In this way, the technology of tank engines will no longer be a problem.”

”So when do you expect to be able to manufacture the Apocalypse Tank?” His voice was a little anxious, as if he couldn’t wait to see the birth of the Apocalypse Tank covered with special basalt steel plates.

Lin Chenran frowned slightly, knowing why Grandpa Lin was so anxious.

In recent years, the border area has been unstable, with small groups of enemies often crossing the border to harass and cause considerable trouble to the Yan State.

As a senior military official, Mr. Lin is eager to have a powerful tank to deter those with evil intentions.

”Grandpa, to be honest, it will take at least a year to complete the manufacture of the Apocalypse tank.” Lin Chenran replied firmly.

He knew what Mr. Lin expected, but building an excellent tank was not something that could be done overnight.

The Apocalypse Tank has been manufactured and still needs to undergo various tests.

The most important thing is that Yan Country does not have a 120mm smoothbore gun. It still requires the efforts of the 212 Mechanical Military Factory.

It is impossible for the Yan State military’s Apocalypse tank to be equipped with the Soviet Union’s 125mm smoothbore gun.

Mr. Lin frowned slightly, with a hint of disappointment on his face. After a moment of silence, he asked, ”Are there any difficulties?”

Lin Chenran quickly explained: ”Grandpa, although the Apocalypse tank is only a second-generation main battle tank, it involves many advanced technologies in all aspects, so...”

”Especially the 760-horsepower four-stroke V-12 V-46 diesel engine.”

”Although we have signed a contract with the Ural Locomotive and Rolling Stock Plant Design Bureau, it will take some time to localize it and apply it to the Apocalypse tank. You should know that even if you get all the information on a technology, you still need to overcome many difficulties to successfully produce it.”

”More importantly, the 120mm smoothbore gun project has just been restarted. Can their 212 Mechanical Arsenal produce results so quickly?” Lin Chenran said with a frown.

He knew the difficulty and complexity of this project, which would require a lot of research and development and testing to succeed.

As a powerful tank cannon, the 120mm smoothbore gun has very high technical content and requires advanced manufacturing technology and material science support.

It is not easy to achieve mass production of 120mm smoothbore guns in a short period of time.

Lin Chenran was also unsure.

He estimated that it would be difficult to complete it in a year.

Unless, Lin Chenran has efficiency pills similar to those in the Doraemon world, which can directly improve the efficiency of each engineer and improve the efficiency of workers.

In this way, you can directly ”increase” the speed.

All equipment and facilities of the Apocalypse Tank will be ready within one year.

Then assemble the Apocalypse Tank.

”This……”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Lin frowned and his eyes became serious and heavy.

He knew that this situation was very unfavorable for the 077 Mechanical Arsenal, but he also understood the difficulties faced by other military factories.

It turns out that the real reason affecting the progress was not the 077 Mechanical Arsenal itself, but other military factories that were dragging their feet.

This situation made Mr. Lin feel helpless and worried.

The previous 212 Mechanical Arsenal had fallen into a state of stagnation due to funding issues.

If the country did not need a whole second generation of main battle tanks, they might still be in a shutdown phase.

Even though the project was restarted with the support of national funds and the funding and technology of the 077 Machinery Arsenal, the research and development speed is still slow.

One of the important factors is that the 212 Mechanical Military Factory is trying to develop a 120mm smoothbore gun project, which is a completely new field for Yan Country and lacks relevant technical accumulation.

The R&D process is full of challenges and uncertainties, resulting in slow overall progress.

”Unless the military chooses a smaller caliber 120mm smoothbore gun instead of the domestically produced 115mm smoothbore gun on the Apocalypse tank, or purchases the 125mm smoothbore gun from the Russians.”

Lin Chenran directly gave the Yan State military two options to choose from.

Either domestically produced small-caliber or imported large-caliber.

But no matter which one, there is certainty.

There is no way around it, because the military wants to send 100 Apocalypse tank hunting suits to the troops as soon as possible.
