280: Chapter 276: The King’s Father?

The mother and daughter recognized each other, and both were overjoyed.

Princess Beini, naive and unacquainted with world affairs, did not know what had happened, but the Queen, holding her daughter who had grown up in the blink of an eye, could not help but shed tears.

It was not until Mu Ying and Ferena approached that she wiped away her tears and asked, “Are you Ferena?

Was it you who awakened Beini?”

Ferena nodded, still not having recovered from the shock that his fiancée was mentally just a child.

The Queen’s gaze turned to Mu Ying.

“And who might this be?”

“I am Mu Ying.

It is I who guided him through the thorny forest to ask a question.

Please answer my question truthfully as the price for my helping you leave; the thorns are still out there,” said Mu Ying.

By this time, she was certain that the Royal Family’s slumber had nothing to do with the curse, otherwise, the thorns outside would have reacted when they awoke.

The Queen, well aware of the terror of the thorns, nodded.

“Do you know why the Thorny Kingdom was cursed?

And why can the thorns not penetrate the Royal Palace?” Mu Ying got straight to the point.

“The thorns cannot enter the Royal Palace because a protective Magic was placed by a witch during its construction.

As for the curse, it’s because the Royal Family offended an evil witch.

You’re also a witch, aren’t you?”

“Far from it, Mu Ying is a very powerful fairy.

Before, Mother even wanted to ask her to be Chris’s godmother, but she refused,” said Ferena.

The Queen laughed.

“Ferena, fairies are actually witches, just kind ones.”

Mu Ying did not respond, continuing to inquire, “And your slumber was?”

“It was Divine Medicine left to me by my mother, which allows one to maintain their vitality during a deep sleep without the need for food or drink, but it can only be broken by the kiss of a blood relative or a partner.

We had three bottles, all now consumed,” the Queen said, eyeing Mu Ying with a hint of scrutiny.

Mu Ying noticed her gaze.

“Why do you look at me in that way?”

“Do you know the King?” the Queen asked.

Mu Ying shook her head.

“Why do you ask?”

“In the King’s study, there’s a painting hidden away — it features a woman named Catherine, likely his first love, who bears a strong resemblance to you, particularly in her hair and eyes,” the Queen sighed.

“I thought I was his first love until I saw that painting and realized that there was someone before me.”

“The Princess turns 18 this year, right?” Mu Ying asked.

The Queen nodded.

“She will be 18 on the eighteenth of October.”

Mu Ying narrowed her eyes.

Her current body’s birthday was on the ninth day of the Winter month, which by human reckoning would be October ninth.

Without further questions, she said, “Let’s go, it’s time to see the King.”

The group made their way through the corridor to the King’s chamber.

The Queen led the Princess forward, who then gently kissed the King’s cheek.

The King was a man with a stately appearance, even his brows slightly furrowed as he slept.

Now awake, he quickly came to his senses.

“Has someone finally come inside?” The King looked pleased.

“Queen, which brave soul has breached the Thorny Forest?

A handsome reward awaits the one who escorts me out!”

Before Ferena could speak, Mu Ying stepped forward and said, “It was me!”

A woman?

The king had a moment of confusion but quickly recovered.

“Good, good, as long as you escort us out, you may choose any treasure from the Royal Palace!”

“The king jests.

I only need you to answer one question.

Do you recognize the name Catherine?” Mu Ying looked at him expressionless, her Magic Wand already in hand.

A flicker of panic passed, and the king shook his head.

“I have never heard of her.”

The queen looked at him in surprise: “You!”

Mu Ying sprinkled a few vine seeds, which quickly germinated and turned into robust vines in the blink of an eye.

The vines pushed the queen and the princess to one side and bound the king up entirely, leaving only his head exposed.

The king was terrified.

“What are you doing?

Are you going to murder the king?”

“Fairy Mu Ying, what is this about?” Prince Ferena was also stunned.

Mu Ying did not speak.

Under her command, the vines wrapped around the king and herself and carried them to the balcony.

She threw out the Flying Carpet and crossed the thorny forest to the outside air, while the king was bound by the vines and hung in mid-air.

“You may not know, but witches are most sensitive to their own bloodline, and have you heard that there’s a painting hidden in your study?

Are you truly unaware of the name Catherine?” Mu Ying’s tone was flat, her gaze like looking at a dead man.

The king looked at the dancing thorny forest below and said in panic, “I remember now, I’ve slept too long and forgot, Catherine was the one I loved most!

You, you, are you her daughter?

Then I am also your father!”

“How could this be?” The queen, who reached the balcony, couldn’t believe the words.

A daughter?

The king had such an old daughter?

“Wow!” Sleeping Beauty cried out in fright, “Father!”

“Fairy Mu Ying, don’t be impulsive!” Ferena also shouted.

Mu Ying ignored them.

“Father?

A witch doesn’t need a father, especially not a hypocritical traitor.

I am but nine days older than Beini; father really has been quite busy, hasn’t he?

My mother died because of you, so no more words are necessary.

The thorns below are restless.

As king, you should resolve the curse that rose from this land because of you.

Your retribution has arrived.”

“No, no!

It’s not like that, you can’t commit patricide!” the king shouted.

But the vines had already loosened, and the king screamed as he fell from the sky.

Below were the reveling thorns.

He indeed was the father of this very body, and his mother, Catherine, had also died because of the curse he had cast.

Upon seeing him, Mu Ying, who had studied Curse Magic, could tell that the source of the curse was this very king.

These thorny trees had grown from Catherine’s hatred.

Only by the king being killed by the thorns could the hatred dissipate, and the curse on this land be lifted.

The so-called protection of the Royal Palace was that witches could not enter, and magic could not be cast, thus the thorny trees born of Curse Magic could not enter and only surround the Royal Palace, preventing those inside from leaving.

But Mu Ying was an exception, for she too was of the Royal Family’s bloodline; that layer of protection had no effect on her.

The thorns strained taut and pierced towards the king; death by a thousand arrows would have been no different.

As the king died, the thorny trees took on a tinge of blood color, which then spread and expanded outward.

Subsequently, countless thorny trees began to contract toward this location.

Darker and brighter the red became.

At last, the vast Thorny Forest turned into a seed tinged with both blood-red and emerald green.

A gentle Magic Power carried it and presented it before Mu Ying.

“Mother?” Tears couldn’t help but flow.

The seed landed in her palm, Magic Power gently brushed over her crown, and spread across the land.

The ground, ravaged and scarred by the thorns, suddenly sprouted greenery as flowers bloomed everywhere.
